Why does 343 match me with platinum 3s when I’m gold 5. What’s the point of the ranking system of it doesn’t take place. Why even have a rank if I’m going to play with people 4 ranks higher than me. If I’m gold 5 5 5 shouldn’t I b eplaying with 7 other gold 5s.
I’m fairly sure the ranking system also takes into consideration your performance. So if your constantly getting good scores, or performing well, the game might think your skill level is equivalent to a higher ranks and match you up with them. If you consistently do terrible, I don’t know than. Depending on the playlist, the matchmaking might have to broaden the search range for players close to your rank if there aren’t enough people online.
Im pretty sure there is your rank which is visible and then a hidden csr .
So you play people with a similar csr to you .This is shown by champion players who make new accounts in order to find games and after playing for a bit they can be playing against onyx players when they are much lower such as in gold or platinum.
In order to fix this i believe 343i needs to slightly tweak the way the ranking system works. This could be done by making each level (eg gold 3 to gold 4 ) a 100 points.
If you win against a team with an average rank in your teir (eg gold 3) then you get something like 40 points. and for every teir higher you get an additional point (or 2-3 points ) and every teir lower you get 2-3 points less.
For example the average rank of the teams is gold 1 vs gold 3
If the gold 3 team wins they get 36 points , and the gold 1 team loses 36 points.
If the gold 1 team wins they get 44 points and the gold 3 team loses 44 points .
This would just mean that the team that should win (the higher average rank) isnt rewarded as much and the lower ranked team benefits more as the game is in theory more difficult for them.
The numbers stated in the previous post are just theory and could easily be changed to match what 343i wants to achieve.
Also there could possibly be a cap where winning against a team that is far lower than you still provides points such as 10 (because if you win you want to get something from it), even if its a diamond team vs a gold team
Also on the other side if you win there could be a cap so you cant just rocket through divisions based off lucky wins
And finally in each rank once you get the 100 points to advance to the next teir your points are reset EG if you have 90 points and win a game worth 32 points you just get promoted and start with 0 out of the 100 points
Potentially a buffer of 1 game could be added so you dont instantly get demoted or if you do your points lost are just taken away from the 100
Eg you are gold3 and get demoted after losing a 32 point game , instead of starting at 0 points in gold 2 you start at 68 points in gold 2
