Gloves! What an awesome weekly reward!

Logical People: Ugly gloves I won’t use, hard pass.

Too many people in this thread: Gloves I’ll never use, count me in!

To be fair, I think gloves are a good reward, but it does indeed still create FOMO. I imagine creating a decent reward is also just a bad idea from a dev perspective.

Think about it, all the development that goes into creating these items that get essentially disposed of from their potential ‘earnable’ or ‘unlockable’ content value from the game after only a weak.

It would add so much value to the development time of the devs to have these items stay earnable in some way. Could also help address content drought.

The only way I see it really be justifiable from a developer standpoint is for the utilization of FOMO.

I think creating a token system would be best. All weekly rewards stay forever available in their own tab of the shop/battle pass. They all get dropped at the start of the season. Every week players can earn a “Weekly Reward Token.” This would allow players to choose whichever weekly items they want to unlock at their own pace.

Heck, they could even still spin this in a way that benefits them. These weekly items could be limited by season.
Example: All season 1 rewards are separate, all season 2 rewards are separate, so on and so forth.
Attach it to battle pass system. If you own the season 1 battle pass then even in season 3 you can back and use a Weekly Token to acquire an old Season 1 weekly reward. But if you do not have the Season 1 Battle Pass, then your Weekly Tokens are limited just to the current season.

Let’s not forget that this game is supposed to have a 10 year life cycle. I would not be surprised if at some point the weekly rewards become attainable again. Either as rehashed weekly rewards as they run out of ideas for new items or in a completely revamped store that includes old items that had previously gone away.

And as 343 feels pressure from both people who complain that the weekly rewards aren’t good enough to care about going after and from people who complain that the items are gone after their one week showing when they do put out good rewards, I don’t see the weeklies disappearing forever after their initial one week availability.

I’d prefer things be rearnable, on the players own time. It would add at least some type of superficial content to the game people can unlock, giving a sense of earning.

I don’t feel better for having something that someone else can’t have because say they were in the hospital, serving overseas, or too busy with life’s responsibilities to grind extra time on a game for.

As slow as the updates have been for Infinite so far, I do think the game is going to look massively different in a few years time from now. If for no other reason than 343/MS would be turning down extra money to not eventually revamp and expand the store to include these old items that, at the time, appeared to be “if you want it, you better get it now.” Like showing off that Butterfly Petal shoulder set for the Yoroi core that was never available for unlock at any time during season 1. If that isn’t eventually put out for players to obtain (through the store I’d assume, unless 343 is gonna rehash that Fractures event at some point) then 343 is not just passing up on more money, but confusingly just angering fans of that armor core by showing them cosmetics for it that were created and put into the game but will always be behind a sign falsely stating “released during the Heroes of Reach season” that they’ll never get to use.

Do y’all just have a template thread set up to post every Tuesday that says “Really? (Insert weekly cosmetic here) for a reward!? What a waste of time.”

Gloves are kind of a rare cosmetic, so I think it is a good reward. Granted, they all look pretty much the same, but would you rather pink fluffy ones or something? Going off the cat ears those will end up in the store cuz people will undoubtedly buy them like crazy.

It’s not really a moving goalpost situation. It’s more of a darned if do, darned if you don’t sort of thing. But it could have been avoid by using systems from older Halos.

The problem is that the items are timed and may never come back. It didn’t have to be like this. Commendations could have been used. Complete a certain task and unlock a corresponding item. Or Spartan Points could have been used. Each challenge unlocks a point that can be spent on a pool of items.

Infinite’s system is an all or nothing set-up where you can’t make partial progress over a longer period of time or return to a particularly hard challenge. So it feels more stressful to do everything in a week. It’s like playing a game with no quicksaves.

I made a thread about this very topic a few months back:
