Glassing beam

The glassing beam we all know does one thing. It melts a lot of things very quickly. My question is concerning something which most people have probably overlooked. In previous Halo games, the glassing beam was shown to come out of the ‘nose’ of CSS class battlecruisers. This they used in ODST and Halo 3 to uncover the portal. In Reach however, the glassing beam appaers to come out of the troop transport “pad”. Why is there such an obvious discrepency in the location of the beam. In on of the data pads, the AI agree that the “excevation” and “glassing” beams are the same entity which is apparently not correct. What’s your opinion on which beam is which?

There is no “glassing beam”. Glassing is performed using a number of weapons like plasma torpedoes and the excavation beam.

Yes, glassing is a term for plasma bombardment in which the planet becomes near un-inhabitable as a result. They can use any number of weapons, though plasma torpdoes and the excavation beam are the most frequently used.

Possible design preference, every ship is different after all.

P.S. Time and budget + dev. oversight.

What Trojan said. Different models have different weapons/locations.

I wouldnt call it a discrepancy at all in the location of the excavation beam as it could vary from ship class. Also the beams have been shown firing from the center of Covenant ships in Halo 3: ODST which would give some credence to the idea of different ship classes have their weapons in different locations.

Another possibility is they could have more than one, but normally only use one or the other.

There are multiple projectors depending on the ship. A super-cruiser has 5 beam projectors, the most powerful being the belly I believe. The super-carrier has 7.

Where do these specifications come from exactly?
