One thing i have wonder after reading most of the books and playing the games. Why hasn’t humanity gone back to the glassed colonies and started terraforming them to make them habitable and usable as colony worlds again? I saw a snippet in the first season of hunt the truth that basically says they are. But that is one planet, usually after wars is the time to rebuild and heal wounds. No bigger wound then a glassed planet. Would make sense for UEG to try and reclaim lost worlds or some coalition of the outer colonies.
Does anyone know if there is any lore besides the snippet in HTT?? I’m curious… they even say Harvest was the biggest producer of food and yet they retook it and then nothing… i assume. Yes it would take a long time, decades probably, but it would be a way to show everyone that humanity is still strong and resilient.
There’s another reclaimed glassed planet in halo 5 third, seemingly 4th level.I don’t think there’s anything suggesting they aren’t ATM. There’s also the epilogue of Halo Reach showing the planet being recolonized in the distant future.
Part of the problem is the sheer amount of loss. Recolonization would likely be focused on ones who got lucky enough to evacuate most their people.

I must have missed that in Halo Reach. And yeah it would most likely but colonization usually starts because of a overflow of people or people unhappy with current events or whatnot… tons of planets out there that should be able to be recolonized. Surprised some mega corporation of the future hasn’t set their sights on just that
The Human-Covenant war dealt a lot of damage to Humanity even though they won. They are still recovering from the losses they took. If there is no need for recolonisation, then Humanity won’t do it.
Well this was answered for me in the campaign… I guess corporations are reclaiming glassed worlds and then selling off the land for profit… a long game but profitable
It also depends how badly glassed the planet is. Take Draco III for example which was being recolonized by around 2554.the major population centers were hit the most but some of the cities survived semi intact
Basically, ‘glassing’ isn’t an entirely accurate term for the Covenant’s orbital bombardment. While it is possible for the Covenant to burn worlds, rendering them completely uninhabitable within a short amount of time is impossible. If you read the Assembly stuff from the Halo Reach datapads, the AI’s calculate that it would take every single Covenant ship operating at full bombardment capacity no shorter than thirty years to completely render the surface of Earth uninhabitable, and even longer for larger worlds, so ‘glassed’ worlds are more or less just purged of major population and military centers and then left to stew in post-bombardment winter.
There are exceptions, of course, namely Kholo, which a Elite carved the Covenant symbol for ‘Faith’ into the surface.
Basically the term ‘glassing’ was coined by the AI Assembly because of the psychological impact the term would have, thus pushing the UNSC to fight even harder to avoid it from happening to a world.
