343 has said that they would like Infinite to be a good starting point for players just getting into the series. This may be a problem though as so bloody much has happened in the past games. There’s multiple different factions fighting each other, tons of different characters, species, weapons, etc. that would be rather overwhelming for a new player.
I believe all of this could be solved with an ingame codex: you open it in the menu and it lists off basic information about each character, weapon, vehicle, setting, piece of technology, species, faction, etc. to make all of this information super accessible. Obviously, it would be updated as you encounter new things, starting off with nothing, and after you encounter, say, a grunt, the codex entry for “grunt” is added, and as you learn more about these things through the story the list of information on it expands as to conceal spoilers and such.
It’d give players easy to access information on the numerous things they encounter, and it’d also provide another reason to play through the game in depth and try to fill out all the entries.
Agreed, a codex would be a good idea for anyone seeking a deeper understanding. At the same time, things need to be explained at their most basic level within the campaign.
For example, as a kid, I had a near-total understanding of what was going on in CE without really trying to follow much. However, after not following Halo for a few years after Reach, I played Halo 4’s campaign with a friend and had only a slight understanding of what was going on after multiple questions and a full playthrough. It was only after I started using outside resources like Waypoint and the wiki that I began to understand.
Not saying either story was bad, especially since Halo 4’s story is one of my favorites, but the narration needs to be ensure everything is self-contained so reading other material is not necessary to get a baseline understanding of what’s happening.
I like it
I would love this!
I spent hours reading the Mass Effect codex, as well as Destiny’s Grimoire (even though that should have been in the game to begin with).
Any codex with Halo would be welcomed by lore junkies and new comers alike.
that’s actually a pretty good idea. It does t need to be as in depth as mass effect even. Just something like “The Force Awakens” would suffice.

Oh of course, I’m not saying that a codex should be a substitution of proper exposition, just act as a nice resource for those who want to dive in more or might need a refresher on slightly more obscure things in the game.
Soundd like a reat way to bring little bits of the expanded universe into the game, as well as terminals.
Remember the audio logs from ODST? Something like that could also work.

Ohhh gotcha. Yeah, that would be great for everyone I think. Did you play the new Doom? I like how they explained everything in great detail for whoever wanted to dive deeper into the lore.

Nah, this wouldn’t be something to add additional tidbits of lore like a terminal, this would briefly summarise all lore on things within a game.
Of course, more terminals and such adding on to the expanding lore of the universe is also a very welcome addition.
Imagine if Halo 4 had a similar codex. People would have been a lot less confused of Didact and Librarian.
This is exactly what it needs. HCEA kind of had this but you need the kinect to use it and it’s fairly limited in how much you learn. I think that as soon as you encounter the first of any enime, character, weapon, vehicle, or tech it should give you the minimum amount of info needed to understand what it is. As you progress, find secrets, and unlock achievements more info will be givin. It would add in reason to be a completionist again.

Yep, there’s so much extra lore behind those characters, and more lore behind the world in which they lived in. Without knowing more about who they were and what happened to them, it’s all very confusing when the game kind of throws them in there with only exposition for you to go off of. I’m reading the Forerunner Saga right now, and it’s helping me understand the plot of Halo 4 much better, however that information should already be present within the games when it comes to characters.
