A long time ago there was a game called Halo CE, where it’s main character was a cyborg named john 117 or master chief. He was a popular character by h2-h3. Then in h5 they threw him into the side character folder for a new character named locke. Now we declare h5 as the worst story in halo history, because we didn’t have enough chief and other reasons, (H4 deserves the title as the worst halo). What are the reasons why we hate locke? Well he’s not chief. but 343 wants to give some spotlight to osiris. I mean Halo is not always revolving around chief, (coughcough halo reachcoughcough* Halo ODSTcoughhalo wars*cough) So why are we so against locke? MC was as emotionless as locke in h1, in fact cortana did most of the talking. Buck fills in the role of being the talker. He’s proved himself by taking down the kraken, killing jul’madama, and even went up toe to toe against chief (although he was going easy on locke). So why do we hate Locke?

Dude Locke is the best, he is literally a living meme. Not to mention his head looks like a giant malteser so to me he is known forever as malteser man. I even have a small collection of pics of Locke with just some faces he made that looked funny.
I’m ok with Osiris, but the balance is way off for Chief missions compared to Locke missions.
lmao I was thinking that HALO could use an expansion featuring more ONI presence and Locke doing his stuff so to speak or Locke being on the receiving end of orders to kill covies etc and maybe flood some kind of filler that gives more character development that deals with him solely something darker and more grimy that matches locke’s armor detailing…and maybe an addition involving Chief in the desert. Something like a filler maybe. Locke seem’s out of place but he is a great character. Or additional missions detailing the individual characters in guardians. Locke seem’s as though he would fit very well in place similar to the first mission in ODST.
I don’t think Locke is the primary reason for the animosity toward the H5 story. The H5 story simply wasn’t very interesting or involved. For most of the game the story consisted of Osiris chasing after Chief because he disobeyed orders and decided to investigate the guardian conundrum on his own. Not… very… interesting.
Also, I couldn’t help but think Locke jumped at the proverbial bit because he didn’t feel as important as Chief, and went all tryhard chasing him to inflate his ego. It wasn’t about doing his job or following orders. He just wanted to one up Chief out of jealousy for his past accomplishments. Again, not very interesting. And, quite frankly, it made his character unlikeable.
All of that aside, Locke and the lack of missions featuring Chief disrupted the continuity. Past Halo titles placed significant emphasis on Master Chief. When the -Yoink- hit the fan you had a feeling of being in the moment. You saw his struggles, setbacks and triumphs. You identified with his character. Slowly phasing another “main” character into the franchise before making them a focal point would have been fine. Immediately pushing the “hero”, the guy you spent years identifying with, into the background wasn’t. Furthermore, H5 sadly failed miserably at creating a similar experience with Locke. He was just “that guy” chasing the coat tails of MC.
Those are my issues with the H5 campaign in a nutshell.

While Master Chief not being the main character of Halo 5 was disappointing, it was far from the main reason why the story was crap. If the story had been compelling, interesting and built off of what was shown to us previously, I would have been ok with Locke taking the center stage. But only having 3 Chief-centric missions, while already bad, just made things even worse.
Halo 4’s story was fantastic, but relied too much on the extended universe to be really appreciated. Halo 5’s story was just terrible all around.
I gave him a chance… and I still like him. Whenever I do coop I always play as Locke.
They are forcing him at us in a unsusual and unliking way.
Also there is literally no character development for him and he is SOOO boring! Cmon 343 pls, I want to like him like arby
Locke had a lot of potential as a mysterious yet cocky assassin, or a ONI spy who questioned his superiors, or the tough soldier with a moral compass from Nightfall.
Instead he’s just a quiet lapdog who end up trying to fill the Chief’s oversized shoes.
If Locke becomes the main character then I hope they call the game something besides Halo, or at least give it a subtitle instead of a sequential number.
I like Locke. I don’t have a problem with him. He may be a little on the boring side, but let’s list some other Halo characters who are also on the boring side:

-Thorn
-Hoya
-Grant
-Miller
