Hey there,
Is there a possibility to have gift reqs attained through req points in the future? I have a friend I’d like to help out but it’s only available through real world money.
Any chance of it changing?

Probably not due to some players who have everyone unlocked who will have thousands of REQ points they could spend on friends meaning less money for 343 and Microsoft
Probably they won’t let us due to the possibility of people creating smurf accounts just to to buy packs and nothing else. I like to have the option of letting us gifting a REQ pack using RP points.

Wouldn’t those accounts still need to earn req points to then gift them?

Yes they need to (obviously) but that’s my theory why 343i will never let us gift REQ packs using RP points.

That sort of make sense. Either way I think players would need to grind those points to therefor gift them. Hopefully they do reconsider the choice later.
The main theory that will keep them from doing it is the fact that that system is open up to abuse. Basically players hoarding REQ’s then asking others for payment to give them said REQ’s. Apparently 343i asked other developers who had that type of gifting and that’s just one of the issues they came up with.

That’s a shame, because the current system will barely be utilised besides the free initial gift. Sort of good change that won’t really be used.

I think a lot of companies might use it for contests or whatnot. Instead of a $10 gift card for MS now it can be a gold pack. Who knows?

I’m on that boat with ya also OP, but unfortunately it won’t be happening as far as the update release page notes go. Microsoft/343i are only going to be allowed REQ packs to be gift-able if you buy them with actual money. As they stated, it’s mostly due to players having stocked up so many REQ points due to unlocking every item in the game and not having to buy REQ packs since they have completed their personal commendation/Spartan Company kill commendations if they are in a company. Plus they also stated the possibility of potential scams in the option of REQ packs in Halo 5 being bought with REQ pack points. So as of now, you can only gift packs bought with real money at this time. I know it sucks, I’ve got a friend too I want to help out with REQ unlocks if she gets her Halo 5 installed, but guess that’s the way the Halo ring crumbles unfortunately(and yes, I did spoof ‘the way the cookie crumbles’ line with halo, cheesy/terrible I know, but had to do it).
Yeah I would of sent golds to a bunch of my friends. They will just grind with reqs like me anyway.

If you could gift non $$$ REQ packs, you could create smurf accounts, go into warzone firefight and get those 15-20 or so that you get in the first few days of playing it and then gift them to yourself, then do it again and again.

This is exactly why they won’t do it with req points. If you could “gift” packs with points they would create a secondary market and you would see players on ebay or where ever offering “gift packs” in exchange for money. You could essentially sell your own bundles.

I suppose… Probably would have been better off not implementing the system at all. It’s a shame, the system had potential but I guess we are all just stuck grinding through sadly.
Another reason as someone here stated is the potential 3rd party “black market” store dedicated to selling REQ packs which can be purchased only using real money. If this happened, this could be a similar scandal like what happened Counter Strike scandal to the people even under the age of 18 doing something similar to gambling.

I suppose. Just a thought. Just seems the entire gift system is now rather useless.
Probably not

On the contrary, it’s pretty useful for someone like myself. My team have a history of hiding codes in puzzles and doing giveaways. Being able to buy a pack and gift it to another user is pretty cool to use as prizes in small competitions. Actually something I’ve been wanting to have for quite a while

There’s a problem with this?

Yes, it’s rather simple you see, business need money to keep going.
