I noticed something and I am most likely wrong, but the giant Promethean ball thing goes in the direction of the Infinity, but passes it, which leads me to think that it and Chief were racing to something else but the Infinity crashed and Chief had to rescue it.

You do realize that ball is a Forerunner Cryptum right?
The Cryptum did pass the Infinity but it is still nearby it and the arriving Covenant forces. To me, it looks as though it’s a elevated position to watch and observe. Remember, it did scan the area around MC before flying off. Most likely to gather data and i strongly feel it’s responsible for the Promethean constructs showing up and attacking everything that moves.
It’s ascertaining the threat values and gaining data on the two factions (and MC). Obviously, things get dicey and all hell breaks lose. Not only does the Elite get vaped and MC get ambushed but also the constructs breach the Infinity as well.
My question is: Who is in the Cryptum? Didact?
The Infinity is big, remember. The Cryptum could look like its hovering past it, but it may still be over a part of the ship.
And I think the Ceyptum wasn’t trying to directly assault the Infinity itself. It already, supposedly, doesn’t see Chief as a threat. Perhaps it is just watching it, scanning it, commanding the Promethean defense AI. I’m pretty sure the Cryptum’s destination is Infinity, and it is just keeping its distance.

Yeah, sorry, I haven’t read the Forerunner sega so I wouldn’t know about that.

Nah, pretty sure The Cryptum was just assessing the situation. Another intresting thing though, when a Elite is running towards The Chief, A Knight vaporizes it, as if to protect The Chief, indicating The Cryptum and A.I. aren’t as hostile as you would think, even though they attacked and maybe captured The Chief.
