GI new video interview: Fan QnA with Josh Holmes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqb3Mgc_T0M

Awesome interview with tons of questions answered regarding customization, split screen, the campaign structure etc.

Text version?

What did they say about the campaign structure? Anything about its length? Sadly, I just don’t have the time to watch a two hour video

It’ll be cool if someone writes the highlights here in points

And if you don’t want to watch the clickbait of Halo Follower, he’s a run down of the Q&A in bullet points:

  • > - 343 Industries aren’t willing to discuss the Locke/Chief mission ratio but promises that the campaign is focused on Chief, even in the Locke missions
    > - Split-screen was cut to allow Halo 5: Guardians to be as big as possible for both Campaign and Multiplayer – no one at 343 Industries was happy about the decision
    > - While the campaign is focused on finding Chief and all that stuff, Osiris missions won’t be visiting the exact same area and playing them differently (see: Destiny)
    > - Players can choose which character they want to play as in co-op before the game starts. This won’t be an option in single player.
    > - There was some debate about which characters would be included in Fireteam Osiris like Buck, Tanaka and Vale.
    > - Osiris will be perceived as a new team and will may see bickering and disagreements compared to Blue Team who have known each other for literally years
    > - Tim Longo confirmed that The Flood would NOT be returning in Halo 5: Guardians, promised a few surprises would be awaiting us in the campaign.
    > - No word on Naomi-010, possibly be revisited in future fiction
    > - Nathan Fillion was excited to play the role in Halo 5: Guardians, was kept up to date about how his character was doing through the creation process.
    > - When asked if customization would be like MCC (armour sets) or like past titles (full armour customization), Holmes said it would be heavily tied into the new REQ system which gives “hundreds” of new options for “Helmets, armour, visors, armour skins, stances, assassination animations, weapon skins and emblems.” However, he dodges the question if it will behave like MCC or past titles.
    > - Big Team Battle will come online weeks after launch
    > - There will be different vehicle variants including skins, looks and functionality – says some are pretty crazy. All tied to the REQ system.
    > - No playable Elites in Halo 5: Guardians – fully focused on Spartan vs. Spartan combat
    > - The space whale on Fathom is called Tim and will be featured in “multiple spaces”
    > - Whale REQ Cards were joked about, specifically calling one in that would just drop from the sky and do nothing
    > - 343 Industries are committed to Forge and Theater and will be discussing Forge improvements specifically in the coming months
    > - Old Forge features are returning and new features are coming too – no specifics at this time
    > - Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have continued support post-Halo 5: Guardians launch
    > - When asked about Hunt the Truth and a Season 2, Holmes let out a HUGE smile and said it had a huge reception and people loved it, will explore future opportunities
    > - The Sprint series will continue after the positive feedback it has received
    > - REQ Packs are being used to cover the cost of the map packs which are being offered to everyone, for free.
    > - Holmes says that eSports played a part in why maps are now free. Near impossible to add DLC maps to eSports because not all players can afford to buy the maps, harder to get new players into it, etc
    > - A Halo 5: Guardians console is coming but they aren’t talking about it right now. Holmes said he probably wasn’t meant to talk about it to begin with on Twitter
    > - It sounds like they haven’t got any ‘huge’ announcements left after Campaign and Warzone. They will continue to talking about the game though and reveal new stuff every so often.

Thanks for that bulleted list buddy, saved a lot of time

I want that Whale REQ.

They could always make a floating one a boss in warzone.

Forget about no split screen, forget about no elites, forget about micro transactions, forget about all the negative news because we need Tim the Space Whale REQ packs!!!

… Tim falls from the sky with a Grunt screaming “Not again!” tear An inner child can dream.

The second part of the interview is with Marty o Donnel. I cant believe people on a Halo forum can’t even watch a Halo interview. I watched it while playing TMCC a couple of days ago, its pretty awesome.

To me, the back half of things with Jaime Griesemer and Marty O’Donnell is far more interesting.

They both seem like very intelligent and seasoned fellows. Some interesting tidbits of Halo history and thoughtful perspective on game development. Good stuff!

No mention of sprint or sprintless playlists.

Just because there are new hot button topics, dont forget the main reason halo’s mp population has fallen!

You’re so sassy lol

I will watch the interview later. I have to work today (yes, on July 4th…) which is dumb.

Would just like to point out that the Halo 5 console announced for SDCC is an exclusive SDCC variant, something they do every year. It’s not the Halo 5 console they’re talking about here.

Thanks for the link.

I’m pretty sure they confirmed that you can disable sprint and other spartan abilities a long time ago.

it’s not because of sprint, and please lets not start this whole sprint argument because they’ve fixed that from 4.

Thanks for the summary Moa!
There are definitely some things I’m happy about and some things I’m not, but I’ll still be purchasing.

Thank you very much

Thanks!
