The Halo series has been around for a long and so far it’s has amazing games. The main storyline for Halo is awesome to play put the side games that we have like Halo Wars and Halo 3 ODST have been super fun as well. What would you guys think about the Ghosts of Onyx book being made into a side storyline Halo game? It would be a great storyline for a game to introduce fans into a future Forerunner storyline and interconnect the games more. Would it be fun to play as the stealthy Spartan 3’s? What mechanics and gameplay would be good in a story like that? What thoughts do you have?
I’m open to the idea, but it would be really hard to effectively differentiate the play mechanics between the Spartans you normally play and the S-III’s since they had minimal augmentation and less effective armor. I’d almost think it’d maybe play like an FPS version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier or something.
They would also need to have a pretty smart AI to control the other S-III’s, since the program had such a heavy focus on teamwork.
That all said, I’d still be down to see what some of the different operations would look like visually. Instead of a full game, they could probably just make a “Spartan Ops”-style sub-campaign like they did in Halo 4. That wouldn’t be ~perfect~, but it would be both “good enough” and require much less work than a full game. I’d be good with that.

In terms of gameplay, ODST did very well at still feeling like Halo but having a unique style. Onyx could have similar mechanics to odst., with no shields and stamina, and active camp like arbiter.

I think it would be fun to try out the spartan III’s because they were probably just as good as ODSTs if not better. You bring up a good point about that, and know that you mention it, it would be cool to make it a similar to a squad focused game, like Ghost Recon or even Republic Commando. Yeah, the AI would definitely have to be good. Even though they have less armor they had really good stealth technology, which I think it might add a really cool aspect to a game like that. If they did most of the book I think they could make a pretty good and long game, I think it would play similar to parts of ODST but it would still be pretty different. Depending on how they could make it, it could either be short or like a full length game, but those are good things to remember.

I think it would be fun to bring back the stamina/health system for a game like this but do you think it should have any unique features/gameplay to interface with the active camo?
Lorient Avandi yeah I suppose so. Honestly, when it comes down to it I think as long as they do the story elements right and put in some sweet visuals to show the scale of the operations, then I’d be good with that.
AscendantSeraph Unfortunately I don’t think Halo’s game engine would be able to properly simulate intelligent teammates like a Ghost Recon/Republic Commando game could since Halo allied AIs tend to be pretty stupid by comparison, but I’m hungry for the idea we’re developing here. I think we’d honestly have better luck with a modder reskinning GR:FS or Republic Commando than for a Halo game to replicate it as it was meant to be (and believe me, the irony of that statement has not been lost on me lol). I think it’s because the AIs in those other two games are capable of advancing and engaging on their own, whereas the Halo allied AIs just kinda follow you around and require you to generate any forward motion on the battlefield. To its credit, Halo 5 made some strides in this with its “Focus Fire on (Target)” button command on the D-Pad, but it’s still got a lot of room to grow.
lol f*ck, sorry guys, I meant to reply all that on my ACTUAL account ^ (TyphoonZERO38 was my old one I stopped using for gaming but do for email so it forgot to log me out lol)
ANYWAY, here is all that again and please regard ‘this’ as the proper post

I would be on board with this so long as it doesn’t get ruined. Which it probably would tbh. But it would be nice to play as a Spartan III again. And the story of Onyx is super cool.

Hahahah, what you really said is super true, the AI in the past Halo games have been a little bit terrible and stupid at times. Halo 5 was a good step, do you think it’s possible for the Halo engine to even come close to either of those games in the near future?

I mean I think it’s possible. They honestly haven’t really had a reason to make them to the caliber of GR or RC, until Halo 5. So if they keep up with the route Halo 5 went, I’m sure the ai will improve and there will the possibility for more commands
I agree, and a First Strike spinoff game would be great too!
We could set it after even, since we know that there’s a base operating inside of the new Shield World…would be pretty cool to play in that.
Tom and Lucy discover a strange signal coming from across the shield world and trek through reawakened Forerunner defenses to find it…only realizing when they arrive its Kurt Ambrose himself, alive and well.

I really like the thought of the storyline of the book as a game but that would be a cool idea too. Maybe a sequel?

That would be sick! If they did a First Strike spinoff, I think it would be cool to switch in between John and Fred like how in Halo 2 they switched between the arbiter and Master Chief.

Absolutely! I’d love to switch between John and Fred.
It’d be cool as a side game rather than a huge release.
