every now and then I’ll try to play some firefight but find it just so frustrating because, from my perspective, everything seems hard coded to chase me into the ground. Just had a few games in a row where things would chase and chase and chase and chase untill finally they wore me down and killed me. And its not like its just 1 crawler, it would be a dozen soldiers or 4 gold elites sprinting and shooting, or an elite boss on a ghost chasing me inside a building. I just finished a game where a grunt mech essentially sticky taped its trigger down and would not let me come out of cover. Eventually i stuck my head out too many times and died. And then it just stood there for the rest of the game, its work was done. Never attacked anyone else after it killed me and it eventually died
anyone else ever get the feeling that the npcs have it in for them from time to time?
Banshees seem to chase you longer than necessary rather often, along with Ghosts. I don’t get it much from other enemies, except for maybe Crawlers now and then.
It seems some NPCs have a certain “range” that they operate in, and that range moves with them as they move. And so long as you are the only person within that range, they’ll keep chasing you until either they’ve killed you or you’ve exited their range, after which they’ll run all the way back to where they came from. I speak about the Knights, specifically, as I’ve had one chase me halfway around a map once. It was pretty hilarious seeing this happen.
I also know that Banshees and Ghosts will chase you to the ends of the Halo installation as well.
hmm I just played a game on Apex 7 and the last boss was the phantom/wraith combo. I was in a wraith and could not exit the building because every single banshee was flying circles and spamming fuel rods if I popped outside the building. There were players STANDING STILL out in the open and didnt even get looked at by the npc’s.
Thats the sort of thing Im talking about. THAT is what tunneling is

The AI is likely scripted to look for different factors for engaging players like ones that are moving or shooting at them or players that are in close proximity to them for example which someone being afk is likely not going to trigger. Also, excluding the Anti-Air version, the Wraith is probably one of the worst vehicles to use on that round because it’s harder to hit the Phantom, extremely difficult to hit the Banshees and the easy to hit NPC Wraiths don’t show up until the last part.
Always and I mean always, stay at a distance and pick the enemies off. For some reason especially in Firefight the enemy seems to lock unto you from a distance.
The chase is what makes it fun though. Risk. If everything was static and the enemies stayed in their little loops it would not be fun. It forces you to take fights in a semi planned way.

the bummer was my wraith was a random vehicle. I almost always get gungooses or warthogs from the random cards. To get such a good vehicle then have it wasted was… saddening lol. If only the ai was coded to attack players who hadnt shot at things for a given time. I suppose i would have hated it though on those ultra rare times where im locked down by the retrieving data bug lol (i hate quitting games, but I also dont see the point trying to fight red knights with the base AR)

Theres chase, then theres inability to leave cover because half the maps ai is standing there waiting for yours and yours alone head to appear. Then they all shoot lol.
Im not going to say the games out to get me thats not my intent. Just some times it sure does seem like the ai’s in a given match demand my absolute and outright death lol
