Finally! Just finished the Plasma Pistol commendation. It was definitely NOT easy and required a bit of patience, trickery, and smarts. I don’t know how many of you would actually want to max this commendation out but if you do, here’s a few tips to help you out.
Play Regicide, easily the best playlist to max out any and all starting weapon commendations (I maxed out all the automatic weapons and the Pulse Grenade here as well).
Seek out groups of enemies. try to find clusters of at least two opponents and go for a steal kill or two. The best time to do this is when someone is performing an assassination. Just keep shooting at them and you’ll at least kill the assassin if not both of them.
Use the Kingtacular JUST for the PP, as soon as you get that Overshield immmediately find the closest opponent. Unless you get too close to an automatic wielding opponent you’ll easily knock them off with health to spare.
Never take an opponent on 1 vs 1 with the PP unless you’re positive you can beat them with it. It’s great for ripping down shields but once that’s done the hard part begins. It takes around 6 to 8 shots once the shields are down to actually kill your opponent (the single worst part about using the PP for kills). Try to get a drop on them to help you out if you must 1 vs 1 somebody.
AFKers are your best friends. Use them just for PP kills and if you know the spawns on the map go where they’ll spawn next and repeat.
Realize you probably won’t win a whole lot of matches trying to max out the PP, I’ve won matches with the PP as my ToD (including the final game I needed to max it out) but it’s not going to happen a lot.
7 Be prepared to die, A LOT, I killed my K/D going for PP kills (not as bad as I thought I would but still). There were so many times where I just needed that one last shot to kill my opponent only to get killed 1st.
Pace your shots. The Plasma Pistol will overheat fast so try to pace your shots, this helps too in a 1 vs 1 situation since you can aim better if you calmly pace your shots.
Melees can really help you rack up those PP kills and conserve your ammo. PP ammo gets used up fast so try to melee people (don’t run at them specifically to do this,. be smart about meleeing people, get them when they’re firing at someone else or not paying attention to you).
Grenades can also help to weaken your opponents to conserve ammo and make it easier to get those PP kills. If you know someone is rushing you, time your grenades to at least pop their shields and fire away with the PP afterwards.

TL:DR; I don’t care about getting Plasma Pistol kills
Well, to be honest I have absolutely no kills with the plasma pistol so thanks for the tips. I loved rumble pit in Reach but I haven’t even touched regicide since it changed so drastically, but now since I got my boltshot almost there I’ll go for plasma pistol and magnum at the same time. It just seems like a huge pain in the rear, so I don’t think I’m going to bother getting that one done. I’m not a fan of the Covenant stance anyway so that is another reason to not get it done.
These are great tips! I’m still on 4/7 on the PP commendation. It’s been difficult but you’re right, regicide is the best way to do this. Another tactic i’ve been trying is using an auto weapon to take out their shields and then a bit of their health then switching to PP to finish it off. I use dexterity and if you can time the auto weapons it will take a lot less shots of PP to kill them. Still difficult to do though… and often I get my kills stolen when switching weapons.

I used the BR because it had a longer reach, pop their shields and 2 shots the the body and then switch weapons. I used Ammo because the PP burns up ammo so fast. The rage is pretty funny when you consistently kill someone with the PP isn’t it.

That’s smart. I should’ve thought to use a precision weapon to get body shots. I kept accidentally killing people with the auto before I switched. I’m gonna try that next time. And yes! I love getting a ton of kills with PP and people getting so mad, especially when i get more kills than them.

11.If you can, fire the PP TWICE, melee ONCE, then fire the PP ONCE, and you get an instant kill. Really works if your not lagging so badly and if the enemy is at full health and shields.
Thank you so much Big Boy 1229! I have benn on the lookout for this very type of post. I am currently in the middle of going for the Weapons Mastery commendation, and I was unsure of good tactics for this one. This is greatly appreciated. I will try these ideas out, and report on how I did.

Wow! I just checked out your stats and I am impressed. It is nice to see another player who is as interested in playing. I don’t quite have the amount of playtime and completions, but I’m working on it. I am at 43%, and just a little ways to go before I finish with my UNSC weapons. I have really enjoyed trying to tackle the game with all the weapons, instead of staying with just one.
