I started playing with the mode back in Halo 3, so my advice is probably more advanced for a new beginner. I suggest practicing moving objects around, rotating them, and getting a feel for adjusting their settings.
YouTube videos are a good place to learn basics, and if you have questions about advanced techniques you can ask the ForgeHub discord channel.
Halo 5 forge is very complicated at first. It took me hours to teach myself to move stuff!

start by building something fun! don’t think about your first map as a masterpiece. just start out experimenting and just build random stuff to get familiar with all the functions of forge. just don’t be overwhelmed by all the features that are available. a couple things that I found that were really helpful: learn how to use the snap function. for example instead of freely spinning an object to get it right where you want it, SNAP will rotate the piece at an exact angle. (side note to this, while holding the RIGHT TRIGGER press DOWN on the d-pad and it will reset the object to its original position.) Also I would recommend use MAGNETS to put pieces together until you are more familiar with how to move things around. SNAP and MAGNETS alone will help you get off to a more enjoyable start. Mostly the learning of forge comes with experimentation. I have found that even after becoming familiar with everything building a legit map usually starts out like a block of clay. You start with…something…then you mold it over time into something that is awesome! It may take days coming back to the same map before it is fully complete depending on how much time a day you spend on it. oh and one last piece of advice. stay the heck away from scripting lol at least until you get comfortable building simple things. A geez, were to start. I would say to just go into a blank map and experiment around with the tool/objects/map settings, halo 5 forge has a lot to offer, but it can take time to learn. You should also not feel bad when the thing your trying to make doesn’t turn out how you wanted it too, I’m started forging when the update for it first came out, and I’m still learning new tips and tricks to this day!
