Can anyone explain this? I spartan charged the guy, expecting to at least weaken him. Suddenly whilst mid charge, I go from full shields to dead. This sort of things happens all the time, and it’s very frustrating. I’m losing kills and matches because of it, and the game is less enjoyable because of it.
I agree but when did it happen same for me all day yesterday go to finish off an assassination and he somehow thruster lags past me and double beat down lol
Blame it on the lag, with the new update coming out try one of the matchmaking preferences to find people with a (just as good) connection as you have to make the game less laging and have more fun.
remember that the spartan charge is not something that always hits while you are charging you can easily get killed because you are vurnerable you can’t do anything while in the charge (3th person view).
Also something to do is go back in theater and see what happened so you will know if it was a player with a bad connection that got you killed so easily or that you got teamshooted/melee in the back/whatever can kill you.
You whiffed the SC and hit the wall, he either sneaked in a melee or a SC somehow then pistol shot you in the face. Whether he was lagging and teleported before or during all of this is another matter. I find it hard to believe he was just admiring that wall, but it’s difficult to tell.
None of this is to say the lag/kmart server syndrome/garbage netcode isn’t a thing. Lately half the battle in many games seems to be figuring out where to aim, whether it be slightly behind or in front of player models, to get consistent hit registration. I cannot count the times I’ve seen shots square on the face of an opponent fail to register or shots off model hit. It’s really obvious with stuff like railguns, especially when you thrust to the side, watch the full thrust animation finish, see the bullet hit where you were pre-thrust and still kill you.
Hell, I recall playing CS gold (original CS right after beta) back in the day with 250 ms ping and it handled better compared to H5. That by itself says something.

Yes this is exactly the problem. Sure, my video above wasn’t the best example, but this happens literally all the time. And what you said there, I’ve dodged spartan charges and seen them hit where I just was, then suddenly my shields are gone! Happens all the time.
Also, I get bulltrue, but still get killed by a dead swordsman. Or I kill someone and they manage to hit me after they’re dead etc. It’s all lag related and is annoying as hell. It’s my one gripe with this game, they really need to get it fixed.

Hey Remco. Yeah I didn’t record the game, just posted this as one example out of like 1000s that happen daily. Hopefully the preferences will get it sorted, guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Lags a huge issue, but not in the way we usually think. Usually when we think of lag we think of stuttering and visually being able to see it. In this situation I didn’t see any lag, but it’s obvious what you were seeing on your screen wasn’t what was happening on the halo server. You got screwed, but it happens constantly. The biggest issue with lag in halo and this may never be able to be fixed in the milli second lag that shows your bullet rounds hitting your opponent but they some how don’t die and kill you. This happens 90% of the time for me and my connection is top notch, but the other players connections matter as well. Playing this game to win consistently is pointless because there’s so many variables that are out of our control. The only realy way to play this game competitively is linking systems.
Yeah I go from hero to zero all the time. One match I’m unstoppable, the next match everyone is a bullet sponge. I love it when I can empty a plasma caster before the first shot even appears on screen.

Yeah, I’ve had games where the opposing team was clearly “behind” because shooting behind their player model consistently registered properly, whereas aiming at it did not. In other words, they were lagging relative to myself/the server. I’ve also had games where opponents rounding corners seemingly perfect me in half a second because prior to them appearing on my screen they already dropped two precision shots/half an auto mag in me. Most games seem to feature one or the other.
This is why, and I’ve mentioned it before, netcode/latency compensation is a thing. This game plays like it has none. It could be because it really doesn’t have any. In which case someone is, without throwing in names, uh… I want to say -Yoinking!- retarded. It could be because it doesn’t work well for a multitude of reasons. It could be unrelated to that area completely. Perhaps the servers really are housed at kmarts around the world. Either way it makes gameplay entirely too inconsistent and should be prioritized over weapon skins, game modes and new phaetons.
Agreed. The game used to run so smooth before.
It really takes a long time for me too for a good connection.
Well I feel a bit insulted
I feel your pain brother, I’m playing from Australia and most games now have an inherent baseline lag factor. I’m holding onto the hope that the new Matchmaking preferences sort it out once and for all. I don’t mind waiting a minute or two for a solid game, versus 20 seconds for a game I regret even entering…
I don’t know what is going on but really ever sense the GoM update or around that time frame the game has been increasingly worse with lag, hit registration and everything else in between. Just when you think it cant get any worse it does… Im totally done until this new update comes out. There is no way I will play a game like this… I know that the next update is going to have a matchmaking preference. But the more I read into it the less faith I have on it… What really burns me is the fact that we are going into month 6 and here we sit with something like matchmaking preference just now being introduced. I try to stay positive about 343 but how can we when they cant even get the basic fundamental parts of the game right from the beginning… Things like this is what hurts the Halo population… I will try to keep the faith. A lot is riding on this new update for me…
