I was watching the Halo 4 campaign gameplay trailer the other day and while I was watching it I realized that the campaign in this game looks amazing and that I would never be able to pass it up! By the end of the video I was almost drooling from the awesomeness of it! It was also by the end of the video when I realized I had no idea what “a forerunner” actually was…
Don’t get me wrong, I started playing the Halo series at Halo 2 and I’ve went on from there, never missing a game. But the sad part is this: I never got into the campaign side of the game, I primarily stuck to the multiplayer aspect. I think I played through the Halo 2 campaign once; but I was an impatient little kid at the time who didn’t like to sit through cut scenes. So when Halo 3 came around and I actually wanted to get the story down, I couldn’t do it because I had no idea what was going on. It was then when I bought Halo: CE to start understanding the story of Halo, but still being an immature teenager, I got bored of the game and its graphics and never made it past the 2nd mission…
Moral of the story: I was a dumb kid and I know very little about Halo’s storyline.
But that is where change comes in! I’ve recently decided to play through the Halo series starting with Halo: CE and possibly going all the way up through Halo 4. I’ve also made up my mind to record my venture of doing this (including commentary) which I will upload to my new Youtube channel regularly! You remind me so much of one of my friends and my stepbrother. Both hate watching cutscenes more than once. If they’ve watched it before, they skip it if possible any subsequent times. They always ask me why I watch the cutscene’s over and over again. Its just the emotional value of the cutscene’s. They may seem boring, but trust me, you’ll get all the info you’ll need from them alone. If the graphics are an issue for you, i’d recommend using CEA over the original. Other than that, you won’t need to read the books to understand Reach, Halo, Halo 2, ODST, or Halo 3. Halo Wars slightly requires the books, and Halo 4, while not requiring them, they will help you understand some of the key things in the game. Not in to reading books or willing to go out and buy them? Rejoice! The Halo Wiki is your best friend. Read summaries of the books and get the info you need without reading 300+ pages. I’d recommend halopedian.com
I love what your doing and everything but don’t get me wrong here, I would say this seems more like an advertisement for your videos than anything else. If it’s fine with the mods, carry on. The halo story is marvelous.

I really, really recommend just buying all of the games and playing through them in chronological order of events. Trust me, it’ll be worth it - you can even pick them up on the cheap nowadays.
My housemate’s never played through them either but loves playing H3 and Reach’s MP, and seems to be interested in the storyline as well. I’m gonna sit her down and marathon the games sometime soon before H4 so we as a house can all play 4-player co-op when H4 comes out. Can’t wait!
