Getting HALO CE & 2 running on Windows 8.x (Tips)

Just thought i’d post some tips for getting Halo Combat Evolved PC & 2 running perfectly on a modern pc with windows 8.x

Halo CE:

installer runs fine on windows 8.x x64 & x86.

v1.10 patch, includes all previous fixes;

http://www.mediafire.com/download/hpy6pjcc4e496h6/halopc-patch-1.0.10.exe

  1. add -Use14 to the desktop shortcut, forces pixel shaders 1.4 instead of 2.0, on my 7750 2.0 i get glitches on a texture in certain levels, there’s
    a bumpmapped surface in some corridors that shows as fuzzy / grain but on 1.4 shaders it shows up properly.

  2. 60hz / 30fps results in slowdown when driving and some on foot. uncapped & 60hz results in heavy visual glitches on silent cartographer on my 7750 but fast fps.
    50hz / 30fps results in perfect fps on foot & driving.

  3. controls must be manually mapped to 360 / xbox one controller, yes the xb1 controllers works with both halo ce & halo 2, but you need a usb charge lead and these drivers;

and here for control mapping info;

  1. for EAX sound (sounds awesome) you need either a soundblaster card installed or onboard audio like VIA HD or Realtek HD ALC8xx etc.
    and either Soundblaster X-Fi MB 1/2/3

Halo 2 Vista:

installer works now…guess windows was just acting up.

you will also need the halo 2 patch (revised version);

and an updated gfwl client or the game will ask to install an update and sometimes fails;

http://www.mediafire.com/download/6r9ma2mepzdpfyw/xliveredist.msi - update

halo 2 supports the xbox 360 / xbox one controller straight away, no remapping needed.

congrats you can now play halo ce & 2 on your modern pc.

Regarding H2v; there is no reason to do all of that, I have run Halo 2 Vista on every version of Windows since Windows Vista besides Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10 (though I have heard it works on Win10). A 64-bit OS does not matter.

Usually all that is required is to install/run the game as admin and download the updates, depending on what is already on your system, you may need to install the G4WL client.

Last, installing random files from mediafire is how people get infected. There are links for these files from Microsoft sources.

just tried the installer for h2v and it works for me now, must of been windows acting up before…

downloading random files from mediafire will not get you infected, don’t post silly things.

When someone posts incorrect information it is often a hint that they are not a trust-worthy source. Downloading random files from someone who doesn’t know what they are doing is one of the bet ways to get infected.

This helped me so much I had given up on trying to get halo 2 to work but I got bored and saw your post and it helped so much.
