Any one else have a really hard time adapting to the Elite controller. Maybe it’s because I am old but I am having a hell of a time.
Use a long stick on the right and a short stick on the left.

I’m not sure how that addresses the problem at all, but… OK.
To the topic, when I first got my Elite, I took a while to get a set-up that worked best for me (Bumper jumper with thrust, sprint, switch weapons, and switch grenades on paddles), then I hopped into Campaign for a while to get more comfortable. Then Warzone, because it’s pretty casual and low key. It just takes a while to get some of that muscle memory down.
I feel I spend to much time thinking about it my k/d in slayer has plummeted ( not that it was good anyways). I have thrust, melee, switch weapons and reload mapped to the paddles. Will try the long stick as that might switch my grip because I keep accidentally hitting the paddles.
it took me a while (about a month) but I have the hang of it now and im loving it.
I tried the long stick on the right but went back eventually because my aim felt off.
I definitely hold the controlled different now, and grabbing a standard controller feels bizarre.
I use default setting and mapped ABXY to all 4 paddles
If you cheat and use the normal buttons sometimes (i did this at first), force yourself to not be able to use them by turning them off
All you can really do is practice though. It took me a lot to relax my grip, and i find myself gripping too tight sometimes still and have to force myself to lighten up.
I also don’t really use the tips of my fingers on the paddles but more like the area just below the pad of my finger (top of second digit basically)
My tip: don’t learn all 4 at once. Put in only the paddle you want mapped to thruster. Use only that paddle for a few days or until you feel your brain has memorized it. Add a paddle in every time you feel you have gotten the hang of the previous paddle.
It’s a muscle memory thing use it constantly find a good pattern with the paddles and keep using them. It took me a week to get use to it and my second week I still fumbled with it but now I can’t play without the paddles. Love the controller it changes the dynamic of your play.
Remember the buttons can be any thing you want like right stick click is on my lower right paddle or you can have double buttons like two crouches for super speed twerk teabags it’s all what you want and what your favorite settings end up. I use fishsticks modified with thrust LL crouch UL jump UR and melee LR paddles respectively

I understand the frustration. I have had mine for about a month and I finally feel comfortable and tuned in. My advice concerning your K/D is to actually start on campaign. That way you’re not worried about the thought of your continuous deaths in slayer. Second, (and this is going to sound weird) the buttons you assign to your paddles actually say out loud when you press them. I would liken it to physically writing down notes versus just trying to retain them in your head. Lastly I would try to stay away from frequently changing them. I didn’t quite know what I wanted first and changing it every day for the first four days didn’t help at all. I was in a state of constant confusion and frustration.
Anyway, congrats on your controller, hopefully this will help you out some. If you have any other questions feel free to message me. I know at this point I don’t know how I functioned without my Elite.

Also I agree with everything he said. I had every problem as him when I first got mine.
