hi
Update on the eighteen-inch NECA Master Chief figure: He still won’t stay up. The figure repeatedly falls over. I’ve been able to have him posted on a surface for about a week straight, thinking I’d finally had him in a good position, but then he buckled and fell. It’s the ankle joints. The figure is fairly hefty; in fact, it’s straight up heavy. I’m not surprised it’s got a tough task in holding up its own weight, but figures this big should be built with joints stiff enough to support them. What happens with my figure is that he starts his vigil standing straight up and, very slowly, his weight begins to shift either forward or backward, on one of his feet. If I observe him day to day, I can see him slowly leaning more and more either front or back. Soon enough, the figure is leaning enough on one ankle for the other ankle to suddenly give in, and the figure goes toppling backwards (or forwards) and falling off the shelf. Luckily, he hasn’t broken yet. But the instability scares me a little bit.
I’m not posing him in any complex ways. I likely to create scenes for my smaller scale figures (such as the McFarlane lines) where the characters are interacting and posing dynamically, but for my huge and statuesque pieces, I typically like more “idle” poses. In this Master Chief’s case, he is simply standing straight up, looking straight on, with his Assault Rifle in his arms (yes, I managed to safely switch weapons) and his Pistol holstered. It’s a really simple pose, mainly because I’ve been having these stability issues. That he can’t even maintain this pose makes me sad.
Oh, additionally: I’ve finally taken the jump and gotten my hands on one of the old Joyride Halo 2 figures. Just a simple Master Chief figure. I was so curious. I didn’t collect figures while these Joyride figures were still on store shelves, so I had never even seen one in person. I actually picked up a used figure, but luckily, its owner had managed to retain all of the accessories and the original packaging. It was relatively cheap, considering the figure’s age and near-new condition - I only spent $20.
Anyways, I’m pretty impressed. The figure is, as expected, a hunk of plastic. It feels less sturdy, less realistic, and cheaper in most ways than the newer McFarlane lines that I’m used to, but it’s also bigger and can be posed more dynamically. I’m also actually fond of the toy-like look of the figure. It’s admittedly got style. It’s a nice contrast to my statue-like McFarlane collection and many of my smaller-scale figures from other franchises (I’ve got an enviable Godzilla collection). The joints on the figure are loose, but that is actually something I expected from a used figure shipped more than ten years ago. Surprisingly, no joint is so loose that it can’t hold a good pose.
I have to say, I’m more impressed with the Joyride figure than I thought I would be. Considering I got this one used and relatively cheap, it was a good trial run for me. I think I may consider hunting down some other figures from these old lines in their packaging. Thoughts?

> Hey everyone! Sorry for not being around. The rest of Waypoint has been quite depressing. Anything exciting happen in my absence?
Nope. The SSmotion had a giveaway on their instagram page for a custom new articulation Commando spartan. Otherwise there are no new sets!
Also the rest of Waypoint seems intimidating now so i would still stay away.

I just picked this figure up over the Christmas season with some of the cash I received (finally - he’s been on my list for the better part of a year and a half). I just can’t at all seem to get him to hold the thing in any pose except for sticking it straight into the air. And that’s even a bit shaky, as the weapon is then visibly simply sitting in his hand.

It’s awesome to see more figures, but this Zealot figure has specifically made me see that the Jul 'Mdama figure coming up is just a repaint. From what I can see, the sculpt is identical. 'Mdama even comes with the same Energy Sword. That’s just kind of disappointing. The two new Spartans will be nice to have, but they don’t look terribly impressive either. I know the McFarlane Halo lines are conceivably close to death, but I still can’t believe all of the figures we’ve missed out on for Halo 4. A huge number of Elite, Grunt, Jackal, and Knight variants, Hunters, the Librarian, Gek, etc. Considering some of the lengths McFarlane has gone to with Halo figures in the past, I had hoped differently. Hopefully someone awesome really carries the torch going into Halo 5: Guardians, because some of the character art just looks fantastic. A Helioskrill figure would be so awesome.

The real way. The best way. The only way.
I gave up on making him hold up the energy sword.

It’s kind of hard to explain how to get him to hold it, but i figured it out! Here’s my review on him, which shows how to hold the sword

Once you reach the ranks of Marine (100 posts), you can then make links clickable. Until then, any links you post are in plain text

> 1. See I would usually agree with a sentiment like yours, but the McFarlane figures are all out of scale… they really messed up on that in my opinion. The Halo 3, Reach, 4, and Universe lines have no coherent scale. I know because I had them integrated together but then had to separate them because the Reach figures were larger than the 3 figures and so on and it bugged the heck outa me. As for the next “series” of McFarlane figures… while I am excited for the figures, I can’t condone 3 figures as an entire series. We should be getting those soon and Halo 5 does not come out until next year. Factor in production time and whatnot, we’re looking at a year and a half wait until the Halo 5 line… I don’t want to wait to that long.

> 2. What I want is a new series of Halo figures that are all in scale with one another. A Spartan-III would be smaller than a Spartan-II, Marines and ODSTs would be smaller than Spartans, Elites and Brutes would be a bit larger than most figures, and so on. These figures would span across every Halo game as well as Halo’s extended universe. Imagine having obvious figures like Master Chief or Agent Locke, but also getting obscure figures like an SPI Spartan-III or the Prototype Suit as a special large-scale boxed-set? How cool would that be? Imagine being able to collect every iteration of Master Chief? Halo: FUD/Package, Halo: CE, 2, 3, 4, 5 all in their re-mastered editions so they can be placed next to each other without one looking out of place? I really think NECA would be the best choice for this to happen. Their Assassin’s Creed line was absolutely amazing coming with many accessories as well as alternate hands. The same goes for NECA’s Predator figures. I also love the size of these figures. They’re larger than McFarlane’s but not as large as say Play Arts figures. Best of all is that NECA’s figures are just as affordable as McFarlane figures. Anyway, I would gladly start a new shelf if something like this happened. I mean I have a Joyride shelf, Halo 3 shelf, Reach shelf, etc. I have no problem starting a new one. Oh also the NECA 18-inch is absolutely amazing, much better than the 12-inch from McFarlane.
I know it has been a very long time but I still feel the need to respond.

While there are clearly different scales, I do not think there are as many as you think. There are really only two different scales. Halo 3, ODST, and Wars share a smaller scale. Halo: Reach, 4 and the Universe line share a larger scale ( there are a few exceptions in the Universe line though). It does indeed pain me with the long wait, but I do not really see anyone else doing better.

I have felt they already have done a lot of that. Although I understand they do not have everything in your list, I do not think anybody else could make that happen. Halo is not going to become NECA’s new Predator. It will take a backseat after a half dozen Chief repaints are released. I also looked online and still found NECA to be a good $5 to $8 more expensive. That is huge to an army builder like myself.
are halo toys cheap?

Well, color me excited! When do these figures start to drop? I’m gonna get two of each. Also, the red Soldier Spartan is a nice surprise.

Of course. You have all of my envy. All of it.
