You can still buy season one BP. But anyone that didn’t complete the free track cannot continue to progress it without going back and purchasing it.
By that logic though, it’s completely okay to have frustrating challenges because a small subset of players are going to suck it up and do them anyways. Seems kind of scummy and anti-player. More people would be more invested in the game if it was easier to approach. Not to mention gating cosmetics and such behind the challenges as well when the F2P experience is already a slog to achieve any semblance of individual customization. And I say all this as someone who heavily pumps cash into the store.
I see what you mean. That’s a really good point.
This is a little away from your point but is the free track even worth completing? I remember getting mostly XP and challenge swaps in S1 while 80% or so of the armor was behind a pay wall. I haven’t looked at s2 pass but i will later on my own time to see if FTP players get anything of worth out if it. Of course S3 or s10 could have great offerings in the future that FTP would be upset if they could not get so… I guess they expire but you can buy a revive token for them
Yes. Its completely O.K. Have you looked at the achievement lists for the Halo games? Sure the core game is fun and casual but 100%ing it is hardcore. Halo isn’t the only game like this.
So Halo 3 was scummy and anti-player because you need to earn 1000gs + vidmasters to unlock all the armor? Common, unlocking rewards through doing hard challenges is as video game that a video game can video game.
It’s a fps, one of the easiest genre of gaming to get into in 2022. People who play Halo casually do not even now what level they are or what challenges they have to complete. This is true since reach introduced challenges.
You are describing a small subset of hardcore/completionist players, not the “halo is geared to be fun and causal” crowd.
Yea but you’re also comparing Bungies Halo to 343is Halo. Historically 343i has had everything obtainable pretty easily. A few one offs here and there.
Not at all. Hayabusa and Recon were highly sought after, sure. But they weren’t difficult to obtain either. Halo 3 IMO was one of the most casual friendly entries in the franchise. Not to mention later in its cycle those were just unlocked entirely free.
Even new players like individual expression. Why do you think nearly every game on the market is saturated with cosmetics these days. And it’s not like there’s some hidden layer to finding what challenges you have to complete, it’s pretty obvious. Even more so now that they appear in the pause menu.
Edit: I got baited here. The question was if Halo 3 was scummy and anti player for locking armor behind 2 games and what the community considered to be very difficult challenges. The developer has nothing to do with idea that locking content around skilled based challenges is scummy or not. You can ignore everything else I wrote in this section.
Really? Because the time sink required to get the Armor in Halo 4 was more than any casual player has. And a very descent chunk of the unlocks was related to commendations and having to play game modes you did not like. Halo 5 was even worse because the armor you got was RNG and you could play for 300hours and not get the armor you would want to wear. MCC is not an easy game to unlock everything for free either purely due to the time sink required. If we are going to pretend that winning a game challenge is gatekeeping, than so is requiring hundreds of hours of gameplay.
You could also say I’m comparing a game that the community enjoyed playing and a game where people enjoy armor.
If getting 1000g and vidmasters is not difficult to you, that’s fine. Pretending like getting the katana and recon was easy for the majority of the player base however is just a BS. Before the vidmaster getting recon was nearly impossible. It’s funny how you say getting these armor pieces in Halo 3 were easy but “win game challenge” in infinite is gate keeping.
When 343i no longer makes Halo games they’ll unlock all the armor in all their games just like bungie did. So there isn’t a point for you to put all this effort and cash into it now.
Not a thing that makes playing a game more or less fun.
Either so hardcore whale players pay just to have everything or so the hardcore ftp gamers spend a lot of time playing to unlock everything. This does not change the casual v hardcore dynamic in anyway.
OK. Do you think a casual player cares or checks those things obsessively? They really don’t. They just care that they’re playing whatever they find fun with the free time they have. They just got out of work/college/school and they’re not about to sit down and turn their hobby into more work just for armor, rank or BP levels.
I’d rather they just make it “Win any mode X amount of times” instead. Winning isn’t a tall order, but demanding that I play a mode that I hate will just make me stop playing this game instead.
Let’s just agree to disagree then. I see no point in continuing this dialogue further. We clearly have different viewpoints neither of us is willing to budge from. This back and forth quoting is tiresome.
Sounds good to me. I wont push further on this issue either.
It’s not a skill requirement, its a friends requirement.
The only challenge that’s hard on solo que.
Top player in the lobby, still lose
This you asking for solo que weekends?
Nobody loses 90% because “they have no friends.” The vast majority of this community seems to have close to a 50% win/lose. This includes solo players. A 90% lose ratio means this is a matter of skill, or lack there of. In reality you’re most likely running into a team full of solo players all the time. You can keep blaming people with friends but the #1 thing keeping you from winning is you.
Agreed. Because 343 in their infinite (all the pun intended) wisdom decided to dumb challenges down instead of, idk, actually making the challenge system intuitive.
Like specific weapon kills, all that jazz could be fine and all if they are all available for the player to tackle off the bat without having 10+ challenges clogging the challenge list before it. The whole Upcoming Weekly challenge is the most obnoxious system I’ve seen in the history of video game progression and I’m fairly bloody confident that that alone is what drove 90% of the initial players out of Infinite.
Nothing is worse than achieving a really nice kill achievement with a weapon but OH NO WHAT’S THIS? THE CHALLENGE FOR THIS FEAT YOU HAVE JUST PERFORMED IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND IS STUCK BEHIND 4 CHALLENGES SHUCKS I GUESS YOU HAVE TO SOMEHOW REPEAT THAT AGAIN HAHAAHAHAHAHA WE HATE PLAYERS AND WE HATE GAMES. NO FUN ALLOWED. DO WHAT I SAY OR YOU CAN QUIT THE GAME. WAIT WHERE IS EVERYONE GOING?
How much time do you have on your hands
I play for an hour or two every evening usually
You must be one of those really really really really really really really really really good players I don’t play for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and still never complete a win challenge
I have played 503 games, with only 116 wins. That is not 50%, that is around 23%. That is pretty low. I don’t mind win challenges if it is win 1 game and it is not tied to a certain type. Also that 116 wins includes the 38 wins in bot bootcamp. Which makes it 465 games with 78 wins in PvP. So that is17%. And on average in all game but one game mode got a positive KDA. So it not like I am letting my team down.
Nah, the “win games” challenges are some of the only ones in the game that are actually designed to let you play the game more or less how you want. We need more generic challenges like those (MCC’s challenges are a nice base tbh) instead of “You WILL play land grab, you WILL play how we want you too, or you will NOT progress beyond the dailys”. 343’s monetization team unfortunately seemed to think it’d sell challenge swaps, but it also pissed people off and made them drop the game.
This over here says your total W/L is 42.7% form 377 total games. Out of the 377 there are about 141 bot matches. If you say total 503, IDK where to see those stats.
Ranked Wins 75%. LSS 3.8%. Swat 33.3%. Team slayer 57.1%. Quickplay 48.5%. BTB 40%. Fiesta 61.8%. Featured 40.7. FFA (not found). Bot matches don’t matter.
Not counting bots, your average Win/Loss is around 45.025%. I say around because i could not find your FFA record. So the 42.7 total on the site is probably right. Don’t be too harsh on yourself, it seems you are better than you think.

You’re positive in 50% of the playlists. Considering how little you play against other players in real matches, this isn’t very telling of if you are skilled or not.
Over all KDA 0.81. Ranked 2.5 KDA. LSS -0.68. Swat 1.0 kda. Team slayer 3.43. Featured 0.44. Quick play 0.85. BTB 0.63. Fiesta 1.0. FFA not found. BOTs do not count.
I agree 100% with this. With a stipulation that Bot matches would not count towards any challenge.
Thanks for the Halotraker.com site. I was going off the stats that are one service record in Halowaypoint.
Yeah if i went by the waypoint tracker than I’d have a 300.12 KD. I wish that was true, but i know it clearly aint.
