You guys and girls all know how Halo: Reach had the really annoying RETURN TO THE BATTLEFIELD count down messages on the maps when you started leaving the map? Well 343, I’m going to tell you something right now, this is going to negatively impact the Halo 4 matchmaking and custom game experience if you throw these back in. If there’s one thing people hate more than that stupid message flashing on your screen counting down to an unfair and unjust death, it’s being restricted within a cage. Do what Bungie did with the Halo 3 map variants. Invisible barriers like on Last Resort or the Pit. You guys over at 343 industries obviously have no idea how much fun it was to get outside of maps using teleporter glitches and what not back on Halo 3 Forge. And to make matters worse, you guys have been throwing them into maps on Halo: Reach from the start with the map packs. stop making those damn things because putting them in the default maps is only going to restrict and limit us when we go to make custom games and maps. Like for example, on Halo: Reach, you guys and girls know where the waterfall was on forge World? Bungie, as the idiots they were, didn’t allow us to go over to it or under it. They put a kill barrier near it. It’s almost like they’re taunting us.
Instead, what you guys should do is ship the default Halo 4 maps with just invisible map barriers like Halo 3 had. Then when it comes around time for the multiplayer maps, have people install kill barriers later. Like the community for example. Really just throwing those kill barriers aobut just limits our chances of expanding our creativity in the forge. How can we, the community properly create cool maps when you don’t let us even use half of the map available when there’s default kill barriers everywhere?
At the very least don’t put kill barriers next to a bunch of cool stuff. There was a lot I wanted to do with the space in forge world where “Asylum” was located but couldn’t because of the kill barriers. If anything, keep the kill barriers but put them way out where nobody wouldn’t want to forge in the first place. It’s just frustrating to see potential in an area for a map only to find out that there is some other worldly force that is just not having it.
Remember, most of this stuff is just placeholders from Reach.
I am with you OP, they said that what they showed us so far was a place holder UI from Reach. So hopefully they don’t actually have kill zones but if they do that crap needs to be taken out immediately.

I like it, if you were to set it. But it’s stupid to have those outside the maps main boundaries. You should be able to go out as far as you can. I believe there’s a reason why they call it “Custom Maps”. Customize a map however and wherever you are.
Wait? What? People that have flown OUTSIDE the map and given a warning to return but not doing so, and subsequently dying is unfair??
Do you remember how in Zealot how players would get up 1 freakin kill then the whole team lifts outside and kills you one by one as you would go to try and get them back?..that was horrible horrible game design and got fixed early on. The maps are designed with barriers for a reason, you shouldn’t be able to use the get outside the map because its…OUTSIDE THE MAP!
I don’t really care if you could do those things in custom games cause they are inherently designed for just fun, but matchmaking should have limits on how far you can go. I personally don’t believe jetpack should even be in the game cause it undermines the whole point of map control when you can just jetpack out of it, but that is not the point of this thread.
I miss Halo 2, when there was so much freedom–in multiplayer and campaign.
For matchmaking no, keep it in. But not,the countdown just the soft barriers (invisible walls)
For forge get rid of it, what is outside the map that 343 is so afraid of people being able to see. We all know the map is fake and what it looks like outside of it. Who cares if the map looks bad on the outside? It’s fun being outside of it.

i think that kill zones belong in finished matchmaking maps not on default forge maps. There already are invisible barriers beyond the kill zones just use those instead. If you find a way past those you deserve to be past it.

I lol’d!
Would be nice if there was a virtual environment completely open, large maps, but it will not be the case a no-brainer
Keep them in finalized Matchmaking Maps, but for Forge and Custom games they should be removed all together. If only for the reason that Custom and Forge are more creative aspects of H4, and those zones add a feeling of limitation (at least that what i felt in reach) that is working against the creative “feeling” of Forge and Customs.
I found this most troubling when trying to forge with the Map pack maps that Reach had. I was so excited to try and forge farther out of Anchor9 and was really disappointed with the limitations.

Hey man. I’m happy for you, and Imma let you finish but invisible barriers are more like a cage than a soft-kill boundary.
I agree though with what you said though.
