Worst Map Ever.
Seriously, a hill and a tunnel, yeh lot’s of design went into that.
Settler Storyboard:
[/li]- Spawns
- oOoOoo a Warthog
- Whole team tries to get in Warthog as it’s the only slightly interesting thing
- Warthog drives off … -Yoink-, have to walk instead
- oOoOoo a hill
- Walks up hill
- Whole other team is at top of the hill
- Die
- Return to #1
I like it. Turrets are underrated. Especially with the gunner perk, I just pop it off, walk up the hill, and clean up the kills.
I like Settler. Purely for the High ground ridgeline position. It’s a prime location that has to be fought over and most of the team knows it.
There is nothing I enjoy more taking that high ground from the enemy team. Always ends up in a siege and i generally see that hill turn hands frequently during a game. Though I could do without the heart attack of a warthog wreck bouncing over a crate at me.
In my opinion there is an easy way to make Settler play better. Simply exchange the shotgun spawn for a Sniper or Rocket launcher therefore making the other side of the map not only worth playing on, but a threat to the hill.
I agree with Mr. Plunderfull although I’d suggest going full on and making it an Incineration Cannon just to make the game more chaotic in its control. If you don’t at least try to control both points you may lose one or both of them at once. Gives some more urgency.
Silver IV7 is completely right. I cringe whenever Settler is chosen and it gets chosen by idiots again and again. You want to play slayer with no vehicles? THEN GO PLAY SLAYER WITH NO VEHICLES!!!
Move Settler the h%%% out of Big Team
DISAGREE.
I like Settler. Better than many of the other BTB maps.
I really enjoy Settler because it is one of the few BTB maps where map control has any real meaning. However, I think it would be a great idea to exchange the shotgun spawn for a sniper as it would add more depth to the strategy of the map as opposed to the current state in which you simply need to control the hill to win.
I like Settler but in could something better than a shotgun to at least move the action to other areas.
Having one single spot on a map being the only place that offers an advantage and promote map control is bad for everything except Tower of Power.
I still don’t understand the hate for settler. I’ve played on it many times and never had a bad match.
I think many players don’t understand the concept of tactical movement and run out in the open thinking they will survive then come on here and blame the map due to their fallacies. Protip: don’t run out in the open alone, the map has perfect areas to maneuver on the sides.
I like it as well, one of the better forged maps, good key map points to control and weapon spawns.
Scythe needs to go.
It’s pretty much the only Forge map I like. The Shotgun should be a Sniper Rifle though, that’s my only complaint. And as someone else said: Turrets are awesome!
Personally I hate it, but a lot of people like it because there is one obvious and lone power position so people don’t have to worry about any form of strategy for map control besides ‘spawn and run up that hill’
Settler is borderline amazing.
Settler is terrible because there is nothing dynamic or interesting going on in the map whatsoever.
There is the hill and then their is no Man’s land. The hill is little more than a linear meatgrinder. There are no interesting tactics to apply, just throw people at the team and you might get the hill if you are lucky.
The hill has too many advantages with too few drawbacks and on top of that it is incredibly easy to defend. I get the desire for simplicity to orient the random players you get matched up with, but Settler takes it way to far.
You want a map with a well defined power position that actually works, go play Ragnarok where the 8v8 battle doesn’t take place in a two spartan wide corridor.
Settler is Halo’s operation metro, easy to exploit grindfest with the depth of a spoon. This really goes to show that the Halo community as a whole has a problem with leaning towards far too simplistic maps with very little dynamic gameplay. In both casual and competitive circles this is a problem. In casual games we get maps like Settler and competitive games we get Midship over and over again(or just two base symmetrical maps in general).
