Did anyone consider what would happen if you can’t drop the flag?
-Power weapons will become useless, betrayals to get them off the carrier will rise like a kraken
-People wanting to escape the flag will run to teammates for a voluntary betrayal to escape
-Nobody will bodily protect the carrier, because they would then pick up the flag if a stray grenade came about

Did 343 consider? Idk, but there has been a thread on it earlier today.
People are going to betray for flags simply because scoring the flag is worth so many points. People escorting he flag should get just as many points for that.
Holy crap people! You fail to understand you need to literally be on top of the flag to pick it up. If you defend the flag carrier and he dies, as long as you’re not directly behind or on top of him, you won’t pick it up.
The power weapons issue, dont go on top of the flag. Problem solved.

-343 trying to promote teamwork with the new CTF system.
-cannot get close to the flag carrier with a power weapon.

Cant wait for the days when you backpedal into a flag you had no idea was sitting there because your teammate just died while you were defending him with rockets, and now you suddenly have a flag in your hands with 3 people hunting, and your supposed to be triplekill is now gone.
*Dies and watches other team return flag and take his rockets.
People will betray for power weapons like they always have. The new CTF has nothing to do with it. However i can possibly see people betraying to grab the flag since scoring is worth a lot of points.

Strategies perhaps? I mean, if I have a fully loaded rocket launcher in H4 I will certainly not pick up the flag…why? Because that is not my role to play at that moment.
Team Objective games always require people to make “sacrifices” or to place themselves into certain roles for the overall benefit of the team…this isn’t run and gun Rambo styled Slayer…
> -People wanting to escape the flag will run to teammates for a voluntary betrayal to escape
And if those teammates don’t give them betrayals? I mean, how retarted is it to have yourself betrayed? You know you’re not going to be able to drop the flag once you grab it (okay, maybe not everybody does first time). So if you’re not comfortable with that role: don’t pick up the flag.
Besides: you’re not THAT vulnerable as a carrier.
> -Nobody will bodily protect the carrier, because they would then pick up the flag if a stray grenade came about
Actually, if you play Objectives like you’re supposed to (AKA: not selfishly going for the kills, as kills are far less important here) you will bodily protect that carrier. And if you do happen to get the flag, you would play your part.
Now, admittetly: people forgot how to use headsets somehow. So nobody communicates anymore. During the start of Live, with H2 people acted less selfishly and more like a community and communication was a part of that.
So to actually find people playing like they’re supposed to, instead of playing glorified Slayer (and never going for the Objective) might prove a bit difficult.
But the changes 343i made to Objective gametypes really serve as incentives to get that teamplayer mentality back into the game. And I sincerely hope that works.
Oh and there is also another simple solution: Betrayals turned off…

the point is to the teamates escort you, or don’t tell me, you prefer loosing than winning.
I don’t understand why these problems would suddenly appear. Why people begin betraying all the time simply because you can’t drop the flag once you pick it up?
Saying that, I don’t think not being able to drop it is a great idea…

You would have to be completely oblivious of the objective marker hovering over him.

People make it sound as if this is going to be a common scenario. Hopefully it will condition people into thinking about the whereabouts of the flag at ALL TIMES, instead of running around like a headless chicken with rockets.
The problem with the gametype is that it requires a team with good communication skill.
As someone who joins in as a single player most times, I can tell you that a majority of teams made up by single or two player parties, do not have mics or, are usually not willing to communicate. Usually leading to landslide losses, or stalemates in objective based games.
I think this gametype worked great when 343 was playtesting it, and everyone was playing nice and mic’d up. In the Wild West that is Halo Matchmaking, I see this being a grief heavy playlist with the inability to drop the flag and the waypoint.
Personally I do not see this adding to the population of objective games, but only time will tell.
I can say that I will not play this gametype if I do not have a full party I trust.
I think the betrayer should lose double or triple the points of scoring the flag if he betrays the flsg carrier.
If you betray the carrier you should get half as many points if you cap it.
Maybe even the betrayals of objective gametypes add up. All the betrayals you get are very costly. At the end of the game you’ll lose a lot of points for betraying, especially if you betray the flag carrier.
DONT PICK IT UP THEN. They said you have to be right on it to pick it up so youre telling me there is no way to avoid picking it up? I don’t think so scooter.
