Hey. So I think that the models of covenant and vehicles and actually, Flood, UNSC, Forerunners, and Weapons should be rewinded back to at least Halo Reach-Preferably Halo 3. I mean come on Halo 4 had turtle-grunts and Dino-Jackals not to mention terrible sounds. COVENANT ARE ALIENS NOT REPTILES. And the vehicle models: Warthog got messed up, pelican was god awful and the frigates were just not the same. The flood in war games looked like !@#$ the sentinels were rubber and the marines were freaking dumb looking. please bring us back nostalgic models 343i. please.
Can nostalgia ever be used objectively?
I have never been a fan of nostalgia goggles. Not one bit!
Hurr durr, you have Nostalgia!
What’s wrong with you people, seriously? Someone disliking something new, and not explaining it in detail, doesn’t equal nostalgia.
Nothing wrong with reptilian aliens.
Warthog looked nice, sounded weak.
Most vehicle models looked pretty good.
Halo 4 flood are hilarious. If anything, they should stay, but we get a normal infection mode.
> Can nostalgia ever be used objectively?
Could be preference, and not just nostalgia.
No people just need to hate on the designs because, well, 343 Industries is in the name.
It’s just another thread displaying irrational fear over 343i’s design decisions.

Aside from the facts that Elites never had scales, Grunts were Arthropods and didn’t have a combination of Reptilian and Mammalian traits, and 343i had to create a 3rd Jackal subspecies b/c H4’s was too different/reptilian; then yeah, I guess you’re right.
Copy paste, because typing this again would be painful.

To add onto that fail, if they did contain a flammable/explosive fuel, then all that would need to be done is shoot the rear of the Hog to turn it into a rolling bonfire.

> Fourth, the lights on the front of the Hog have changed; I’m talking aesthetically, not about how this is the first Halo where they don’t actually cast light on the environment. Does this actually matter? Yes, it certainly does, because now the UNSC must carry 2 separate designs of light bulbs around; 2 of 1 kind, and 1 of the other for every Warthog.

> Fifth, each wheel no longer has its own individual power since drive-shafts have been added to the Warthog in Halo 4. This way if the shaft breaks, which it probably would seeing as how the Hog is used, 2 wheels are now inoperable and the vehicle is target practice. With all the old versions, each wheel worked independently from one another, allowing for it to be far more durable.

I was making fun of the “it’s nostalgia!” people. I’ll try and make it clearer.

I see. I fixed my post.

Considering human diversity, which has developed over a couple tens of thousands of years, on one planet… what do you think would happwn to aliens developing ove tens of thousands of years on multiple planets?
Earth has some pretty varied climates and ecosystems, but different planets take that to whole new levels. Subspecies would be created due to drastic adaptations to different climates, gravity, light, food, etc. It is fantastic that 343i has finally introduced a logical set of aliens, from different groups of their species.
Jul’s Covenant is made up of members from a bunch of outer or distant colonies, so it makes sense that he’s picking up different kinds of forces than those who were normally deployed throughout the war. Most of the Elites are from Hesduros as opposed to Sanghelious. That can account for lighter skin, as Hesduros doesn’t have 3 suns barring down on them. The Jackals are from isolated continents that retained their reptilian physical traits to adapt to their environment. Jackals are very wide spread and are frequent travelers. It makes sense.
Unggoy have an enormous population and have lived in harsh conditions. Mutations can happen.
Now, the next step is to start showing variety in game. Have a couple different skin tones for Elites, randomly generated. Different jackals, etc.
I completely agree with you JSA343.

The Warthog doesn’t even have a normal engine sound! Seriously it doesn’t fit any type of known engine configuration.
Plus the flammable canisters are just a joke. Like you said they would likely contain water as the Warthog uses electrolysis to separate the water from the hydrogen. They use the hydrogen to power the hydrogen internal combustion engine, so why do they have flammable (Likely hydrogen) canisters when they could just contain water and be done with it?
> Considering human diversity, which has developed over a couple tens of thousands of years, on one planet… what do you think would happwn to aliens developing ove tens of thousands of years on multiple planets?
Much, except the Covenant wasn’t around for tens of thousands of years, and those species the Forerunners saved were returned to their home worlds.
I can agree with the Elites in some climates having different skin colors and certain roughness; and for there to be a third, saurian, Jackal-type that the others came from, like birds are said to have evolved from Raptors.
> Unggoy have an enormous population and have lived in harsh conditions. Mutations can happen.
This is what I cannot agree with, no matter what story 343i makes up to cover their tracks. At no point until 343i came along, did Grunts go through such a drastic overhaul. Yes, in Halo 3 and Reach the claws and elbow spikes went away/were less pronounced. That is believable as a genetic mutation that happened due to extensive breeding.
What isn’t believable is: Growing 6-pack abs, buttcheeks, scales on some parts of the body, a completely different head shape, and looking like they have no exoskeleton at all!
You’re right, Grunts have been seen to not live in the nicest conditions, but what environment could possibly make a species that has a tough exoskeleton grow Mammalian features, lose their exoskeleton, adapt scales on the arms and legs, grow a different shape head and jaws? I find it absurd and insulting, really. They clearly wanted the aliens in Halo 4 to appear as scary monsters, but we’ve seen these guys for over a decade, and you don’t need someone to look scary to make people think they’re a monster. Are serial killers and cannibals any different looking than anyone else? No. So, why change a well-established creature that some people have come to think of as cute(some people find other bugs cute, nothing really off there) and have become attached to?
> Now, the next step is to start showing variety in game. Have a couple different skin tones for Elites, randomly generated. Different jackals, etc.
It really should’ve been continued and enhanced from Halo CE, where all enemies except Hunters had various forms/armor. However, randomly generating various types of Jackals, Elites, etc. isn’t likely to make sense. Like you said, Jul’s forces are from a place where light skinned Elites are normal, randomly generating dark skinned Elites would obviously be bad.
Halo: Reach’s Covenant were sufficiently scary. You didn’t know what they were saying, many of them were much bigger than you, and they looked realistic. They looked imposing, cunning, intelligent. That’s what is scary about the Reach Covenant. They’re nothing like you, they’re stronger, and they’re just as smart and cunning. An even match.
Aliens don’t need to have scales, millions of teeth and dumbfounded skull anatomy. (Seriously? Underbite? We’re supposed to believe that Covenant don’t have orthodontics?)
Humans don’t look scary, and we’re an intelligent race. Are we really supposed to believe that members of another intelligent race look like monsters from some children’s story? Show some variety sure, but don’t try and make them look “scary”.
i prefered the reach character models across the board and would love to see those designs return, but i think they’ll stick with the halo 4 models. i actually thought the design of the flood spartans was really good and i’m hoping it sticks around for infection/flood in halo 5. the main complaint i heard about it was being stuck with the flood arm if they make it customizable hopefully it will stay and most people will be happy.

sangheili do have scales. Pop in halo3 and look for yourself.

They clearly don’t. The only part of their body that is exposed is their head, and there are no scales on it.

Thats graphics and you being slightly -Yoink!- about it. You can clearly see their skin isn’t completely uniform and being Saurians that “rough scaly looking skin” was meant to be scales. We instantly see this with better graphics in Halo 4 and now the Halo 2 remake.

The Elites having a full body suit on under their armor is graphics now? Are the toys limited by real life’s graphics too, because the one I’m looking at has a body suit?
Let’s say somehow you are right. That would mean the Elites in Halo 3 are running around mostly naked, with nothing sensible holding their armor to their body, and swinging their nuts in the breeze. I don’t buy that.
The Halo 2 remake Arbiter isn’t shown to have scales in that released picture. He just has wrinkled, sandpapery/rough skin.
