German (USK) Version 100% Uncut = No English!

i got Halo 4 for Christmas, just what i wanted happy

I look at the DVD Box, 100% Uncut (for me, Average Joe that means nothing is missing, awesome!), i look over the DVD Box art, read most of the text, nowhere is a mention what languages are on the Disc.

Oh well frak it it’s 2012 Multilanguage is standard by now, so i just open the plastic wrapper and put the DVD in the Xbox…

English Menu, English SUBTITLES… German Voices… NOOOO!

Ok… whatever, got to bring it back to the Shop and import the UK version online, damn it.

2 Days later the unfriendly Salesman at Media Markt tells me that i could have informed myself on the Internet and that they don’t take back opened Software.

Of course, yepp seen that coming from a mile away, but explain to my father who never had to deal with that stuff… ugh

So now i got a 60 Euro Disc that i can sell on ebay for half of it
need to Import the game from UK for 45 Euro
my Dad is angry because he got the wrong present
i’m angry because he never even could have gotten the right one in the first place…

and another perfect Christmas present ruined.

FAIL.

All this could have been easily prevented if:

a) Microsoft would put a logo / Sticker on their Games what languages are on the Disc (audio/text separate)! is that an unreasonable request? they write all kind of crap on there from coop to xbox live required, but not what languages are on the disc? WHY?

[i would not have opened the disc and could have returned it with the plastic around it intact]

b) Microsoft could just put the English language on the Disc by default!
(this should be DEFAULT by now anyway. Not everybody in Germany speaks German and many just prefer the original language in movies and games, you will never find a DVD or BluRay where there is no english audio line on the disc. You can buy most Xbox games blindly in the Shop and the english audio files will be there no problem, but for some reason there is never any English Audio on Halo games!)

c) If the language files are not on the disc because there is no room left (hard to imagine with 2 DVDs and audio compression these days), put the Data as optional Download on Xbox Live!

Heck i’d even pay extra for it as DLC.

Have a nice day.

What can I say, Microsoft is failing hard with this title.

So you want to buy the next-gen xbox and halo5?

That wiuld be because of content laws

Why would you think german disk would be english?

You do relieze that content is localized to the region correct?
Usk is particularly hard on halo titles and call of duty

Usk is the germna governing body on content fyi
Two problems with importing disks

Content is region locked also without multiple language support dlc may not work with foreign disks this was the case with blackops

You are like the people I meet on the Xbox Forum all the time xD
They also make native language games. Some are set to the region language.
Next time when the game box don´t name you the language on it. The “made in…” could also give you a hint.

Name me someone who go to the UK and buy Halo and wonder why it is not german?
Thats general knowledge. If a game support english, it will say it on the box or look it up online.

Next time tell your dad to go to Gamestop, they can import you english games.
In the end it is NOT Microsofts fault. Even the german explanation on the back of the game box should have told you that it is NOT english. Subtitles will always be found but thats it. be glad you got no US Xbox and a region restricted game that tell you that you can´t play the game on your Xbox. (I just did that mistake ones in my holidays )

Informing your self would help.

He only wants Halo with English voices, pretty sure there is no law against that!

The German copy was not the import, the English version he later got was.

All Microsoft have to do is put [Language - German] on the back with the rest of the specs, simple, especially the rest of the text on the back of the box is in ENGLISH.

  • Probably sounds better in German anyway - German normally sounds more intimidating.

Passiert schonmal, hat mich auch am Anfang aufgeregt, jetzt ist es ok.

Translation from German to English:

I dont care about it, first it annoyed me , now it it ok
