I wasn’t geo filtering but the game is completely unplayable for me, though im in 30 ms ping servers. Desync kicks in way harder than it already has before, the game feel like AA is completely off. I can barely go positive now… lol.
Used to have a 1.24 kd on Diamond 6… by the looks of it ill be D4 at the end of the evening.
But hey… some guys like the OP who have no clue what geo filtering is bought the BS by 343 and are happy now.
Yeah. While I get MCC and halo infinite were seperate teams, you’d think there’d be someone who’d be communicating what features were in demand and popular from MCC to the infinite team.
I don’t get why people say 343 listens. Fixing messes based on feedback is one thing, but to continuously keep making the messes and needing to be told about them is embarassing.
Maybe we should be saying 343 does LISTEN, but it doesn’t LEARN.
I find it interesting how geo-filtering is only an issue on Halo Infinite and not any other game. Seems to me like it’s more of a 343/Halo issue then it is a “cheating” issue.
It seems to boil down to how the games multiplayer matchmaking is set up. I don’t care enough to do the research on how all the other games matchmaking works. All I know is how Infinites match making works and yeah it can ruin and effect the game for other players… Which can be the case in other games… Now as far as the Halo universe how come back on the Xbox 360 games improved and got more features with each game… Now it seems when games come out features are taken away and we have to wait for them to be added months or even years later…why does MCC have more features than Infinite? It seems when 343 makes a game it’s their “first” game. Infinite should have had feature for players like input/platform based matchmaking ability if the players wanted… It should have server selection if they players want… Just like MCC already has. Players shouldn’t have to use outside programs for a game when clearly the feature can be built in game.
Most games I play now have built in geofiltering. It provides me with a smooth and constant network experience.
343 blaming the community for doing something they should have implemented in the first place just makes me sick to my stomach and fearful of our future.
Server selection absolutely should exist.
Try living in Aus or NZ and constantly getting dumped into games against US or EU players with a minimum of 160ms ping, or up to 300ms if you get east coast usa or europe.
Even during what should be peak times for this region. nope. in with the americans i go. yay.
dying around corners, having your melee register over half a second later leading to trade kills and an all round bad experience.
I was about to uninstall the game before I learnt how to block the US/EU servers., and now with no option left to select which region i would like to play in. its just poor that the devs dont think latency is important in a competitive fps game.
I am truly nostalgic for the days of selecting a dedicated server to play in. none of this matchmaking garbage.
Yes and no. Going by how 343i is describing it the DIY solution pushes the problem onto other players - don’t want to play on US servers, well now US players need to play on your servers, so instead of you someone else is having a bad time. And quite obviously that’s not really a solution to the whole issue, is it?
Where I do agree is that they should put a region select into the game so people can make the decision to block out of region play without affecting other players. Because in the end the problem is not that people want to play low ping games (that’s a totally justified request) - it’s that the problem is just shifted around and potentially impacting even more people.
You are foolish. NEVER blame the ayer for sctually wanting a fair and stable game. It is the fault of these lousy developers for making them have to geofilter in the first place because they were too lazy and incompetent to add in a simple region select that most games in existence have. It is not the fault of the player for wanting the game to actually function.
In which universe is not allowing players to select their region a good idea? You just enjoy lagging and your shots not counting and dying through walls?
If the benefit isn’t clear I’ll explain how I see it, by forcing players to search all in the same criteria the game has a better opportunity to pair all players as best it can on skill and connection, quicker matchmaking too. This may mean players meeting on a middle server for instance. Those players would not be available if they were searching on their server only. Of course this does mean sometimes you end up on a rogue server and have awful connection. This option hurts the players in low populated regions a lot so I feel for those players.
Benefits clearly aren’t for everyone. That’s why I don’t think it’s as straight forward as saying definitely offer server selection, or definitely don’t.
The cons (disadvantages) clearly outweigh the pros (benefits) in this scenario. The only time I can see any real benefit to justify this would be if the population was literally dead and hanging by a thread with the benefit being shorter matchmaking wait time, and I don’t think we’re at that stage yet…but even then I’d personally rather wait longer for a better connection.
It is quite apparent that 343i are too incompetent or simply unable to get the balance between skill and connection right, which is why we are seeing the completely ridiculous matches now even in the Ranked playlists.
I can’t help but laugh every time I see 343i mention this or it being repeated by members of the community! Please tell me where the “middle ground” is between US east coast and EU? There aren’t any magical servers floating in the Atlantic or in the clouds so it’s literally impossible for there to be any middle ground and one group of players will always have the server/ping advantage. Due to there being only 15 servers spread across the globe and 6 of those being located in America, then the “middle ground” will mostly always be non-existent and will generally mostly favour US players playing on US servers.
I find it funny. This game seems like it was designed around having a small population. No region selection, very few playlists (even now there’s not a lot), no option to disable cross input. And incidentally, all of these have contributed to the number of players dropping. Good job 343, in trying to solve the issue of being able to find a match with a small number of players, you’ve created the problem, that the game doesn’t have a large enough population.
Absolutely agree. It’s almost akin to self sabotage. Some (or most) of their decisions simply don’t make sense.
At what point did they think to themselves that going against the grain of literally every other online game by matching players regardless of location and then placing that group on to a server would be a good idea? How can a developer of a AAA title implement a matchmaking system that leaves itself open to be manipulated by such a simple well known and widely accepted thing such as a geo filter?
How do these decisions get to see the light of day let alone pass through and be approved in the development cycle? It’s next level incompetence at best.
