Generic Weapon Names Get On My Nerves

I was talking to someone about this the other day. The weapons in Halo have such generic names. Assault Rifle, Machine Gun. I know they have letters and numbers and stuff, but come on! The names might never be updated, but it just bugs me.

Honestly, its not that big of a deal.
Not very important either.

And what exactly should they be called?

Why does it bug you? The weapon names tell you all you need to know, isn’t that good enough?

Also:

“Picked up a Sniper Rifle” vs “Picked up a Sniper Rifle System 99-S5 Anti-Materiel”, which one do you want?

I’d rather have a simple, identifiable name than something unnecessarily done up.

And what’s not awesome about the Incinerator Cannon’s name?

And whatever happened to light rifle and scattershot, since when are they generic names? lol

It’s just easier with simple names.

I don’t wanna hear some one in the game yelling “checkout my skills with this BR85HB SR”

Nope, simply saying “Battle Rifle” is good for me

I like it that way. I got fed up trying to remember the weapon names in CoD.

I didn’t say all of the weapon names, just a lot of the human ones. They could have had cool nicknames like the Mower or something.

Its nice, simple, and easy to distinguish one from another. Each serves a simple yet defined role so they have no need for ‘special’ names.

I find it very descriptive.

Picked up Carbine.

As opposed to…Picked up type-21 Carbine.

I didn’t say I wanted the full name of the frickin weapon, just a cool nickname.

It’s what the weapons are. They’re that style of rifle or gun

Ah, I think I get what the OP wants. Gears of War 3 has a sniper turret that’s called the OneShot instead of something more plain.

Yah.

how is covenant carbine, spartan laser canon, rail gun, storm rifle, covenant energy sword, brute gravity hammer, scattershot, fuel rod gun, binary rifle,DMR, how are all those simple?

> how is covenant carbine, spartan laser canon, rail gun, storm rifle, covenant energy sword, brute gravity hammer, scattershot, fuel rod gun, binary rifle,DMR, how are all those simple?

I don’t think the OP’s talking about those. He’s probably thinking of the Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, etc., all of which are practical names but do, in retrospect, sound a little too generic.

Ahem.

Mauler.

Problem solved.

I must disagree. The weapon names in Halo are based on pure functionality, therefore are easy to identify t first sight. If I had the choice between “Assault Rifle” and “Mower”, I would take Assault Rifle any day. In this case, simple is most definitely better.

Halo was made in 2001 a very early title in xbox and has been looked upon as what it is for 11 years now. people complain about change but you want to change something as iconic as the franchise weapon names? they all have significant names used in the UNSC its just much easier for gameplay and to just say Shotgun
