General thoughts on new update

f2p did not kill Infinite, slow pace of updates and content addition did, why would you not want people to enjoy the game for free if the devs can make revenue out of it, I see no good reason not to and saying “No, no, no, no, no, it’s bad” is not a reasonable or well crafted argument that is gonna make me change my mind, Pathos is not my main engine of reflection, sorry…

I don’t care about cosmetics, that’s not what makes me play the game, new content does and I want 343 to focus on fixing what remains to be fixed in the game, bring the last few features that the PC version doesnt have compared to the console version like split screen and such, bring modding support to all games and steam workshop support to the game so the modding scene can finally start to thrive on this game and I also want 343 to bring new non cosmetic content to the game, like maybe maps (if they’re gonna add content to H2:A MP, why not bring the rest of the maps this game lacks to the table at some point like? I’m sure Ensemble Studio would be glad to do it for them)…

Sorry my opinion is different from the rest of the community, grinding for cosmetics has never been my goal in the game, so I don’t care if people can buy them with money if they don’t have the time to grind, what’s most fun about Halo is not playing doll with my Spartan (even if it kinda is fun) but actually engaging with the game and its gameplay and for MCC to keep being relevant in that way it needs content related to gameplay, I don’t expect 343 to do all that work for us for years and that’s why I think modding is the next step in that direction for the game, if new players can come and enjoy the fun with us for free and make the game community thrive and last longer (maybe forever, Halo: Custom Edition still has active modders and players to this day afterall so one can only hope) it’s all good to me…

A brief summary of how F2P killed Infinite:

The game went F2P with paid battlepasses and a storefront to pander to the Fornite “kiddies” as I’ve heard them called. This storefront is a direct byproduct of the game going F2P and this storefront has garnered all the attention from the devs since day 1 which is why Infinite is still a horrendously UNDER developed game to this day.

It doesn’t matter if we get Forge, or working custom games later, because the reality is they weren’t around at launch, and that is the ONLY chance you get to maximize your playerbase. I see the way the community is hyping up Forge, just like they did before Infinite launched. And I’m willing to bet about a month after Forge launches, people will be on these forums whining how they can’t save their forge maps, how forge maps are deleting themselves, or how Forges features aren’t working properly, and we’ll be right back to square one except 343 doesn’t have the promise of Forge to pull them out of the abyss they threw themselves into with Infinite.

F2P killed the game because there’s no substance to Infinite’s gameplay, all the substance went to the shop, and it went to the shop solely because the game is F2P.

You are making negative assumptions about the future of the game to justify your thought process m8, none of that is logical to me, sorry, I don’t think we can have any real debate here but because I’m a patient dude I’m gonna throw my last lines here…

The gameplay of the game (aka its substance as you like to call it) is of equal or better quality compared to its predecessors depending on what we’re comparing and I fail to see how a commercial emphasis on cosmetics impacts any of it at any point (Halo 5 had a problem with its predatory ingame monetization and it was a paid game, f2p has nothing to see with poor commercial decisions that 343 and/or Microsoft make about this game)…

If you think 343 is wasting time making cosmetics, you clearly don’t know how game dev works, people who make these assets do not have the skills to work on Forge, coop or even crafting balanced multiplayer maps, these are not the same people working on this and the ones who are improving the game…

Reality is just that 343 had a rough time making this game, we waited a lot to have it and some us of us would like more of it ASAP when it is not in the capacity of 343 to do so, which we could argue is justified or unjustified, I don’t know how well managed things are at 343 and if they lack employees or not and many other unknown factors about the health of the studio.

We have to understand 343 has to work on adding features that the game lacks, supporting the mp aspect of the game by delivering content, and they are also working on the next campaign, they also have to work on MCC by improving it and adding content to it, that is a lot of work and maybe if they’d have to deliver content at the pace you’d like them to they’d need way much more qualified people to do so…

trying to milk more money and still can’t give us splitscreen proper for pc. disgraceful

“All true Halo fans” sounds like we got a really great argument based on the no true scotsman falacy here, I guess my mind is blown by it and I’ll change my mind to conform to being a true Halo fan then, sorry my lord I didn’t know you were in charge of defining what a true Halo fan is and what they should do to be one…

Also quite nice of you making fun of children and people with psychological issues, very inclusive of you, I think the 343 moderation team would love it, lucky for you I’m a grown man and won’t report on you but maybe next time when you write on a forum you should think twice about the words you put together…

The new update seem to be great so far. Spartan points are now earnable past rank 100, Double XP during the weekends, you now have the option to unlock 50 items at once instead of going through them one by one and we are getting an option to change the main menu background.

Just hoping we get at some point H2A framedrop and H2C audio fixed

This is something they are considering, not doing yet, right?

i’m pretty sure they said something about it in the august update post a few days ago. i can’t remember what it said, but it was somewhere in the section about the spartan points

From this:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/halo-mcc-august-update

“And we will also be looking to bring back Double XP Weekends.”

I took “looking to bring back” to mean “eventually we will but maybe not in this update”.

You’re all probably right about how unlikely it is, but I have to disagree on the value of a remaster.

I also have hesitations about 343’s ability to pull off a remaster, like Infinite is objectively better in terms of draw distance but is not artistically better imho.

But damn y’all, can’t we all dream together? I would love to see the game remastered. Some day I could even trust a remake, if it were to integrate some small new features and maybe restore some of the cut content (the original vision for the cortana level, and the guardian forest level.)

Take a walk down this theoretical lane with me… couldn’t it be sweet?

A little surprised to see that HCE is still waiting for acrophobia. Under the hood the functionality is already present in CE and can be enabled via the mod tools. I wonder what the approval process is for these sorta skulls.

Awesome that Reach is getting it, which gives me hope that H4 should be able to get it soon.

It could be cool. It’s just not the time, you know? We got Infinite to worry about.

The modding community could take care of that and more, only time will tell… I think 343’s time is better spent on working on improving and fixing MCC and working on Infinite, they don’t need any new major project on their hands…

Y’all aren’t wrong… obviously Infinite needs a lot of love and attention right now. Mostly I chimed in here because I wish that rather than add these kind of assets (that I personally really dislike, but to each their own,) they were working on more meaningful things.

Halo 3 is just so damn good, and with 343 having come out with a game I actually quite like playing (albeit with a lackluster campaign,) I dream of sprinting and assassinating my way through levels like “The Covenant.”

Of course that’s fraught with all kinds of issues around updating/changing an old classic, but that’s just my two cents. Oh, and they’d need to put assassinations in Infinite first lol.

No I’m making negative assumption due to a noticable pattern of behavior from 343 and a consistent occurrence in the gaming industry as a whole. I pay attention to these things as it negatively affects my hobby, and I’ve noticed, not once has Free to Play EVER helped a game thrive in the long run.

I’m going to break this down in segments.

  1. Yes 343 does have to add features the game lacks that should’ve been there day 1. Y’know what could’ve fixed that? Delaying the game an extra year, axing microtransactions entirely, and making the ENTIRE game 60$. F2P once again proves why it’s bad for gaming.

  2. Yes 343 does also have to work on MCC but something you conveniently left out was that the MCC team and Infinite team are two different groups of people and have little to no impact on the work of the other.

  3. I agree, however I don’t mind the 6 month waits for MCC updates as there’s plenty of content and then some to keep me busy in-between updates, can’t say the same for Infinite, I’d even argue Infinite barely qualifies as a game at this point seeing how the first year of its life has been solely focused on the Storefront.

Sometimes I see these updates as a slow drip to keep us hooked, but today I am happy to see steady and routine updates.

Specifically, H2A is finally getting some customization :yum: thank you. I am redownloading as I type. Although, still waiting on developer made remasters of Midship, Sanctuary, and a few others.

MCC’s UI has always been enjoyable to me. Keep up the good work on that front. One thing, less ranked playlists available at a time or condense them. I don’t know you see the numbers. Do what is right.

I have been enjoying the medals in Halo 3. Thank you for giving the options to disable as well. A+

Mod tools will only help support the game. And hopefully make some of my wants become a reality. I may even dabble.

For the current controversy, microtransactions or Spartan Bucks or whatever… I think I read in the update 2000 items are available for customization in MCC.

$2,000 ought to do it. Or in other words $1 per unlock. No gimmicks, no discounts, straight UP.

I understand in order for this game to continue to get support, the mcc team must show a return on the time, money, and resources being spent. Another way to say that is Microsoft wants to maximize profit.

I was an advocate for F2P in Infinite and I was probably wrong. I hoped new younger players would gravitate to the game. I doubt a significant amount have. By attempting to maximize profit Halo may have become a detriment to itself. My goal has been to try and speak with my wallet. I have not spent a single dollar on that game. In the meantime, I have purchased MCC on steam, windows store, and two other xbox accounts. I hope my message was clear. For me and many other Halo veterans, MCC is the real Halo Infinite.

Let me be clear, I do not want you to add microtransaction to MCC. That decision was already made though. Please keep the price low. No customization should ever be more than 3 spartan points! Or should I say $3 dollars a pop. And I sure as :poop: do not want to see that spartan point number go above 3 for any customization!

I also fear a software as service model.

Have we tried crowdfunding yet? I believe that is what is meant by transparency. What amount to get MidShip remade? How much to get a skull like the acrophobia but adds thrust to an older game? This model is likely also bust. But I can see the future with mod tools as Minecraft and Fortnite pay their amateur creators.

I am just trying to brainstorm.

Another thing about the spartan points and challenges is I enjoy progression as likely most people who routinely still play MCC do. I would give a small amount of change($5) for permeant, progressive, cumulative challenges. Example: 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 melees. Like the old cod4 challenges for weapon skins. Be creative and have fun with it. That is well thought out achievements and goals to play for in game unlocks. Maybe some hidden surprises too

The weeklies and seasons have been fine but I long for a few challenges that I will still be going for next year.

Thank you for the continued support on MCC is Infinite.

Almost every time a new update comes out, there’s at least one new issue/bug that is unlikely to be fixed in the future.
