General question regarding the development

Does anyone know which teams worked on the game and are still updating it?
(Heard 343 messed big time with the UI but a small inside team and some third parties contractors like Saber, Ruffian (Rockstar Dundee) and Splash Damage managed to fix the game and bring it to its current state, but that’s about what i know of the story)

Here is my understanding of the development work.

  • Bungie - Responsible for creating the source for CE, H2, H3, ODST, and Reach. (2001 - 2010)
  • 343 - Responsible for creating the source for H4, the unified MCC platform, and various other MCC features such as mod tools. (Current)
  • Gearbox - Handled the original PC port of CE, which the MCC uses as its foundation for CE. (2003)
  • Hired Gun - Handled the original PC port of H2 for windows vista, which the MCC uses as its foundation for H2. (2007)
  • Saber Interactive - Created/ported CEA and H2A to the Xbox One platform within the MCC (2014) as well as currently assisting 343 with maintaining the collection as of today. (Current)
  • Ruffian - Ported H3 and H4 to the Xbox One platform within the MCC. (2014)
  • Splash Damage - Responsible for porting MCC titles to PC. (2020)
  • Certain Affinity - Created Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer component. (2014)

It would be an understatement to say the MCC is a complicated collection of games. So many hands and teams have looked over the source codes for these titles. When something breaks I imagine someone has to pour through not just code, but decades worth of history to pinpoint exactly what is the cause. It’s an ambitious effort to keep these titles collected in the way they are, and look forward to future patches to hopefully bring about community requested bug fixes.

Also worth mentioning Max, the CEO of Certain Affinity was responsible for creating the ranking system for H2, H3 and I think H4?

Max was an ex Bungie employee before founding CA.

The fact that so many teams have so many games, and their different engine versions running in a unified engine UI is impressive as hell. It’s a shame it took the pc port to really fix up the game; but they did it and it’s amazing.
