General feedback pc competitive

So I have played around 15-20 hours on the pc.

So far I think the game is alright. I usually play competitive games or play them to be competitive in so thats how I will review this game.

The sound is alright, i had an audio bug where gunfires get really quiet or footsteps arent around loud enough. For 7.1 the sound could definitely be a bit better, ESPECIALLY when somebody is shooting at you.

When I look at gunplay, its fun because its oldschool. But the guns all kind of sound or feel the same, there is differences but doesnt feel like theres a lot of differences. The classic is definitely weak, the commando is super strong and all the alien weapons feel weak or boring.

When I think about the fact that we can each carry 4 grenades, and pick them up when somebody dies it raises a lot of concerns pvp wise. Thats way too many grenades and will be a grenade spam fest. IMO we should spawn with 1 grenade and MAYBE carry 2 as MAX. But not pick them up from dead players. They should be rare and not used for spamming.

When it comes to maps, competitive wise they are ok. The big problem that I see is that in almost all maps, they have middle spots or side spots where you cant jump on easily or at all. Example: first map, you cant jump on the middle from left or where players spawn. A map should be balanced and (mirrored perhaps) you should be able to jump on every wall without too much hassle or parcour.

So far my mind hasnt been blown. It looked pretty good but it didnt blow me away, neither did the gameplay, sound, weapons or anything much. And im a little bit sad because of it because i love Halo, played all except Halo 5 and would like this game to be extremely active and big in multiplayer and hopefully stay alive for years. But after so many years of development, i havent been blown away unfortunately. I hope the devs have a lot of surprises waiting for us and listen to us.

TLDR: Its not a terrible game but i definitely didnt get blown away or super hyped up. Hopefully i will be at release and the devs will listen.

I’m not sure if we played the same flight, or have played the same Halo before. Each weapon had a utility to itself in need of learning, which at least for the flight compared to past Halos was a return to Halo CE more than more recent Halos with sandbox bloat. Having multiple types and amounts of grenades has been in Halo since CE as well.

For the first map, Live Fire, players can climb up onto the bridge in front of spawn by clambering up the backside of the barrier down by overshield/invis side and then jumping across and clambering up. I didn’t see a quick path like that for the other side, but that’s OK because the map is inherently not symmetrical and probably better for it as a training ground aesthetically. A large part of having areas separated from quick access is also pacing and having players actually think about map position routing. Wasn’t a single map I didn’t enjoy the flow of personally.

Well IMO just because something has been a part of Halo for a long time doesn’t neccessary mean its good or bad. But having 4 grenades to spam is just overkill in any FPS game IMO.

Im looking at Halo from a competitive point of view, because in the end multiplayer is what will keep Halo alive and popular IMO.

I would most likely love the story, but i’d like to see this game become big and stay alive and well with tons of content or good communication and balancing from devs. But so far it didn’t give me a “omg this is awesome” feeling yet or the feeling that I will play this game for sure for multiplayer aspect.

Halo 3 was peak Halo as far as comp goes and has all of what you’re not enjoying but alright.

Grenades are basically a primary weapon in halo. The trifecta, Guns, Grenades, Melee. Grenades are a utility tool, you use them to flush enemy’s out, to stop them from pushing, to protect objectives. 343 tried stopping you from picking grenades up before in halo 4, and that resulted in a worse game. As you begin to remove options from Halo’s sandbox the game becomes significantly less dynamic. So I’m sorry, but as a halo player since CE, Grenades need to stay as prevalent as they are. Grenades are in a good place now. Go back to Halo CE in the MCC, there you will see grenade spam, and grenades are basically Nuclear Bombs.

Halo’s grenade spam is basically something you HAVE to master. Gonna die? Grenade. See an enemy? Grenade. About to turn a corner? Grenade. Being chased? Throw a grenade at a passing wall, I.E. GRENADE.

Frags are your stealth grenades
Plasma’s are your all-around best grenades
Spike grenades are RNGrenades.

It’s obvious you don’t play much Halo so hopefully 343 ignores everything in this post.

Its a good thing I live in Europe and i’m allowed to give MY opinion whether you agree or not, and even got asked to give my feedback

They can take my feedback or not, in the end it’s the same for me. But we will find out soon enough if Halo is as good as some of you think and if it will stay alive

For someone to complain about how grenades work…

Every Halo you start with 2 grenades. There are specific grenade spawns all over every map. Every time a Spartan dies you can take theirs.

It’s always been this way.

Getting chased? Drop a grenade. Spawn? Launch a grenade cross map. See any movement? Launch a grenade in that direction. Prenade a corner just because? Bounce a frag.

It’s fantastic. I’m just stating that it’s obvious you don’t understand Halo or play much of it based on your feedback, and so hopefully 343 don’t make decisions based on the feedback of individuals such as yourself, who have no real understanding of what has historically made Halo unique or great in the first place.

Well like i’ve said before, I have played a lot of Halo before. But even if that wasn’t the case, they want feedback from veterans AND new players. The question is whether they will listen to any feedback at all, yours or mine. But in the end feedback is feedback, whether people agree with it or not. But if the grenades are what made Halo so unique or great i disagree. Thats probably at the bottom of my list of what made Halo great or unique. It certainly isn’t grenades.
