Okay, Master Chief had armour that looked similar to GEN2. The thing, in my opinion, that made Master Chief armor awesome was the black under armor as well as the metallic parts. If Halo 4 had black under armor rather than matching color of armor pieces it would be accepted alot better and wont appear so cartoony.
While I do agree that the overall look of the armour would be improved if the underarmour was all black, as it should be, I also believe that most of the armour pieces in Halo 4 are too complex and unlike anything seen in Halo to really be likeable. If you look at the armour in Halo 3 and Reach, you’ll notice that they have simple designs, yet are sleek and functional. In Halo 4, the armours have a ton of unneeded details, and they all lack that functional look from the past games.
Honestly, they’ll have to redo pretty much all of the armour in Halo 5 if I’m to like any of it, I think.

That’s why I prefer warrior armor. It’s simple, yet instantly recognizable.
If Gen2 armor is better implemented, we need helmets with visors that make sense, unlike venator and wetwork.
So true. I agree the Halo 4 armour was needlessly detailed. If they detail it in Halo 5, they should make it look like Halo: Reach with added ammunition packets, wireless wrist additions and things like that; that make it look like its meant for war based encounters. So heres my proposal to 343 Industries for armour to be more accepted:
Keep the rough nano GEN2 design but reiterate the armour pieces.
- Under armour should be fully black or add another colour scheme ie. Primary armour colour, secondary armour colour, under armour color.
- The armor pieces should have full sets and be war based like if detail model like Halo: Reach or if plain model like Halo 3.
- Halo: Reach armory had longevity because when you level up, you use your experience to purchase whatever armor pieces you want; or use Achievements and Commendations to get classic or memorable armor and others you purchase through an armoury.
I agree that we need less flashy armor features (save Raider, which is supposed to look bestial and thus unnerve the enemy). I’d also liek to see the ability to customize armor more than just color or the 6 primary pieces return. Not every accessory in Reach was good, but slapping on an extra armor panel or a helmet cam on your headgear was fun. Ammo or grenade pouches or a first aid kit (non functional, purely stylistic) on your waist added a more unique and combat-oriented feel to each Spartan. If we bring back that kind of system, I think Halo 5 could really benefit.
I think being able to choose the color of the jumpsuit worn under our armor would be a huge improvement and probably the easiest thing to implement out of all the changes people want to see.
All of what you said is agreeable. However, I think 343i should just look at the style of Halo 3’s and Reach’s armor and start off from there. Just as long they don’t continue this jagged, anime-reject looking armor style, then I’m fine.
I agree with the general notions of this discussion. Also, I think that 343i should make the actual models themselves, rather than drawing concept art and out-sourcing to a third party. I think that may partially be the reason behind the armors’ “luminous” appearance (they don’t react appropriately to in-game lighting). I’d also like the inclusion of dynamic damage being shown on the armor (dents/scorch marks from enemy fire, cracked visor after near-death encounters and being killed by a headshot, and plasma scoring in slashes when hit by an Energy Sword).
-Black undersuit
-Better textures
-Better lighting and rendering system
Theres nothing wrong with the armour itself.
TOtally agree with Ghost
I like the armor’s shapes. I don’t like how it is lit or the texture. If it was made metallic-looking with the option to change the undersuit color too, that would be fantastic. (Remember Halo 3’s detail color?)

I don’t think that’s quite it. I believe that 343i were trying to be different for the sake of being different. This is fine if their changes work out well, like the new Warthog or BR. But in the case of the Spartan armour, it just doesn’t look like it belongs in Halo. At all.
I’ve explained the problems with Halo 4’s armor designs so many times that I’m just going to use this picture to explain it.
