Gears Maps in Halo 5 and Vice Versa

Now that MS owns both Gears and Halo maybe we could see more of a crossover between the two games maybe some maps being taken from Gears games and brought to the next Halo and some Halo maps being used in the next Gears, although this is rather unlikely I wouldn’t mind seeing one or two of Gears best maps being apart of the next Halo game, the Gears map i’d like to see the most in Halo would be Blood Drive, although it wouldn’t be used for big team battle it could be used for game types like swat, slayer and other small team game types, one thing they could do to make it more suitable for a halo game is stretch the map out a little to give the players more room for activities. Also the map should be a free map to download after launch because I don’t think it should be considered one of the launch maps or in any DLC packs.

Anyways I’d like to hear what maps you would like to see from Gears in the Next Halo.

Gears of War is a third person, cover based shooter.

Halo is a first person, run and gun shooter.

Each game’s maps should directly reflect their, extremely different, mechanics resulting in extremely different map designs.

“Map Verticality” and the player’s ability to traverse vertical structures plays a large part in Halo gameplay and is reflected in Halo map design. Can you even jump in Gears?

it wouldn’t work anyways, so i’ll hope it never happens.

That doesn’t make any sense. Gears maps will probably play horribly in Halo, and Halo maps will probably play horribly in Gears. Why waste money when new, original, at least halfway decent maps can be made instead?

The Gears forum knows what’s up.

I honestly wouldn’t be opposed at all to seeing a Gears of War map adapted for Halo. I think it’s a cool and imaginative idea that would definitely shake things up a little in an interesting way.

Yeah!

Mark V helmet with doo rag!
(I KNOW he said maps, just a joke!)

I think it’ll be best if these two franchises stay in their own universes.

I want the Beaver Creek of CoD: Nuketown!

Like the people in the Gears forum said, the maps were made specifically in mind of how the games function. Halo and Gears play completely different, and therefore the maps will play completely different. Putting a gears map in Halo or a Halo map in gears isn’t a good idea.

They’re built for Gears of War, which is cover based, so it wouldn’t really work for Halo. If you tried crouching behind cover in a GoW map, you’d just get your head blown off. Maybe a few of the maps would work if they were adjusted a little, but direct ports would not work at all. I could see them making their own maps based around GoW maps, maybe, but not ported as-is, however much I love crossovers.

Interesting idea, though.

Also, hi there, GoW forum! How have things been going since Judgement? (serious friendly question.)

The games plays totally different from each other. Adding a map that is made for one game to another game doesn’t work (unless the games are very similar), which they aren’t.

Gears are in the same boat as us:

Halo 1 = Great, Halo 2 = Great, Halo 3 = Great, Halo 4 = WTF

Every game is trying to become cod these days … where is the uniqueness?

Maps, no. cosmetic references in armor and emblems? yes. A COG inspired set of spartan armor could be good.

Maps in gears are designed very specifically for Gears. It would be foolish to assume they’d play well with Halo’s sandbox, because the games are so different.

CoDification? That wasn’t the reason for which I haven’t bought Judgement to this day. I tried it’s multiplayer demo and for me it was essencially more of GoW. Too much actually, as GoW multiplayer is, well, boring after some matches. All maps are literally simmetrical, so if you know half of it, you know it all. Also they’re flat with exception for meter-height walls that are used as covers.

And these meter-height walls have absolutelly no meaning in Halo’s multiplayer.

And that’s the reason why GoW maps in Halo wouldn’t have much sense.

Also playing GoW match on e.g. Valhalla would be even more awful experience than playing it in Halo.

If there are maps from other franchises I would love to see in Halo 5, it would be q2dm1 “edge” from Quake 2 and Deck16 from Unreal Tournament. It’ll not happen, but man can dream.

More likely some GoW characters will appear as dlc.

I don’t know though, from the small glimpses we’ve seen of possible multiplayer for Guardians, doesn’t it seem like it’s a little more arena based and mobility is increased? Some of the larger Gears maps with more pieces of cover could potentially work. I don’t reccommend it, because then we might as well talk about throwing Mass Effect 3 maps into the game as well (which makes zero sense), but it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard.

I just can’t see maps from Gears working in Halo.

Quake maps, on the other hand…
