GD's Review - Halo 4's Armours

Before someone tries to throw this at me, I’d like to clarify that I do like Halo 4. Campaign feels awesome and Multiplayer is looking pretty good, so please don’t take this as me disliking 343i. Just their armour designs. I trust they’ll keep the Halo franchise going in a good direction. If Bungie can, I can.

This is a general summary of the armours, mainly the helmets. Some of these are my thoughts, some are ones I’ve heard from others… which I agree with. Feel free to discuss your thoughts and opinions.

In case you pull the tl;dr -> most suck. Just sayin’.

Basic Armours:

Recruit actually looks good. No negatives there.
CIO looks completely ridiculous. Mr. Iron Giant over here.
Fotus is a unicorn. It’s just exotic, I’ll give it that.
Infiltrator looks horrible. The helmet is just a wreck, not a clue whats going on there.
Hazop somewhat looks alright. I can see it being futuristic.
Mk. VI is the Chief. Always lookin’ stylish there.
Oceanic is a big daddy. Just needs a drill and it’s set.
Recon looks okay. Only piece that looks mismatched is the chest.
Strider looks fine. Wish it was unlockable via SR/Specialization.
Scout I just don’t like at all. Helmet looks too long and narrow and legs look too slim.
Venator is just weird all-around. Can’t see that as a choice of armour in the future.
Warrior looks okay. I’d just want a little more bulk overall on the body and legs.
Deadeye just looks unappealing.
Locus is just as bad as deadeye. X’s across the face never look good.
EOD is one I just didn’t like since Halo 3. Just blehhh.
Aviator looks like a terrible dirt bikers helmet. Just flat out ugly.
Defender looks like 2 things: a sad robot and/or a baboon’s butt.
War Master looks like the result of an ODST and Emile playing around.
Enforcer actually looks good. Rocking the helmet as you read this.
EVA looks just as terrible as ever. From the side, he’s wearing Beats by Dre.
Orbital needs more bulk to it and a better skull like Emiles. Also wearing Beats.
Vanguard is flat out stupid. You have a square in your face. Me no like.
Air Assault isn’t attractive at all. Kat was given the worst helmet, period.
Scanner is just fugly. You have a Wii on your face. [Insert disk here]
Commando looks okay. I can work with it.
Ranger = totem pole head. Just a horrible choice to wear.
Protector looks stupid. How does the spartan even see with it?
Raider looks pretty good. I like the samaurai look.

Specializations:

Wetwork looks like an ugly ninja. Helmet makes no sense.
Opertator looks really nice. That I do like.
Pioneer has a dumb helmet. No one would ever use it.
Engineer would look good if it had a visor, not some weird dots on it.
Tracker makes no sense at all. The dots just ruin it even more.
Rogue is borderline. The visor needs a smaller design.
Stalker has a bad helmet design around the visor. Almost a Recon feel to it.
Pathfinder looks fine, nothing too bad there.

Some of the descriptions have been updated. wink

LOL Baboon’s butt.

Haha great rundown.

The lack of appealing armors is something I would complain about before ordinance drops and whatnot.

agree with a lot of these, take that back all of them. So many of these helmets look limited. I can’t even fathom what the hell they must have done to come up with some of these helmets, they are hideous. I just stuck with the recon for now it looks normal…

For the most part I agree, a lot of the gear in this game doesn’t hold up to how nice everything looked in Reach.

Operator is probably my favorite of the bunch. And surprisingly, I actually think Air Assault looks better now than it did in Reach. I always liked the EOD helms too, and it’s nice to see they returned its goggle visor look. And I also think EVA looks really nice. The visor looks nice and smooth and curves nicely. That’s about all the positives I can pick out.

Oh and I’m on the fence when it comes to Oceanic. It looks both stupid and cool.

Overall I prefer Reach when it comes to armor, but some of Halo 4’s gear looks alright. Although most of it just appears convoluted and overly designed, I hope in Halo 5 they tone it down a bit.

I agree with you on Reach having great armour designs. In every Halo the Spartans looked bigger and bulkier. Now in Halo 4 they look too skin tight. I know 343i wants a more human look, but so far it just isn’t looking too appealing. They need to look buffer.

I actually like the Wetworks helmet…

haha im like 50/50 with you OP, some I like and some i hate…I think Locus is the coolest helmet of all and venator is second xD Thats not awkward or anything lol

> I actually like the Wetworks helmet…

It just comes down to taste.

I prefer a Spartan model that looks like it could be a legitimate set. Look at Master Chief. No one has ever mistaken him for anything else than what he is. His armour is simple, bulky (in a fashionable way) and iconic.

I love what they have done with the new helmets and armor. My only complaint is the female spartans are not as distinctive as they were in Reach which I thought was cool.Oh and I miss the ODST helmet.

COMMANDO MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE AN ANGRY PEZ DISPENSER.

Seriously. If I hit you in the gut tasty candy will pop out of your head. LOOK AT IT. WHY IS THERE A CONTAINER IN YOUR FOREHEAD?

And Gugnir. ERHMERHGERD GUGNIR!

Two words. Two.

HAPPY PORPOISE

Venator Helmet:

Spartan IV’s?

I believe you meant Isaac Clark.

(Only reason I rock it)

I’d disagree about the Venator armor. But i do dislike the helmet. The Deadeye helm. looks great though.

Most of the helmets are ok, IMO but the chest pieces and shoulders could have really used some work. They usually look too similar, or aren’t bulky enough for my taste.

soldier’s chest piece will probably stay my fav, that and maybe orbital’s.

Is there anyway I can still get the Locus helm?

It’s not a review it’s an opinion. A review does not include bias, but describes it the topic. Most people don’t get this when it comes to reviews, you don’t say whether it’s “good” or “bad” since that is subjective.

Opinion: CIO sucks!
Review: The CIO helmet and three, circle shaped visors in the front.

My opinion of the Halo 4 armor:

Recruit - Sleek and cool yet practical. Definitely looks like something that a supersoldier would wear. I just wish the helmet didn’t remind me so much of an ODST, but this is a minor complaint.

CIO - One of the better armor sets in the game, IMO. I can’t figure out why there’s a lens for your nose, though.

FOTUS - The fact that it looks like a unicorn is the least of its problems.

Infiltrator - Looks pretty good. Reminds me of a Bionicle, in a good way.

HAZOP - Pretty good, aside from the shoulders, which look like giant warts.

Mark VI - 3rd best incarnation of the Mark VI in the Halo series after the upgraded version in campaign and the Halo 3 incarnation (which this version is clearly intended to imitate for the sake of continuity).

Oceanic - One of the worst armor types in the game, second only to Wetwork.

Recon - True to previous versions of Recon armor while still being different, interesting, and -Yoink!-.

Strider - Not terrible, but something about it is offputting to me.

Scout - -Yoink!- all-around. Love it.

Venator - I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one yet. On one hand, it’s incredibly sleek, ninja-like, and badass, yet it doesn’t quite look like it belongs in the military, and especially doesn’t look like it would be practical in the kinds of situations that it was designed for.

Warrior - Tied with Recruit for best armor in the game. It would surpass Recruit easily if the helmet was a bit less boxy-looking, though.

Deadye - Reminds me of the Rogue helmet from Halo 3, which was badass.

Locus - Looks like some kind of zombie-cyborg in all the right ways.

EOD - Meh. It looks relatively the same.

Aviator - Overdesigned and ridiculous-looking, with the ugliest shoulders in the game.

Enforcer - -Yoink!- yet practical.

Defender - Looks like JFO from Halo: Reach, but unlike JFO, Defender looks overly bulky in all the wrong places and is just generally ugly as -Yoink-.

War Master - Looks a bit ape-like, but it’s pretty good in spite of this fact.

EVA - Not as good as previous versions of this armor, but not ugly by any means.

Orbital - Cool, aside from the wimpy-looking skull.

Vanguard -Just plain awful.

Air Assault - Looks better than it’s already excellent counterpart in Halo: Reach.

Scanner - One of the better helmets once you get past the fact that there’s a VCR stuck to it.

Commando - Mediocre. A disappointing successor to one of the sexiest armor types in the Halo series.

Ranger - I hated it at first, but it’s begun to grow on me. I’d still never wear it, though.

Protector - Definitely one of the best armor types; very -Yoink!-.

Raider - Looks just plain stupid.

GUNGNIR - Maintains the essence of the Halo: Reach incarnation, but no more lunchbox. It’s wearable now, and actually looks pretty good.

Wetwork - Hands down the ugliest armor in the game, and the second most impractical after FOTUS.

Operator - The bulging visor ruins the whole thing.

Pioneer - Looks vaguely Freudian…

Tracker - Pathfinder’s ugly fraternal twin. It’s wearable, though.

Rogue - yawn Boring…

Stalker - It’s alright. It also reminds me of one of the assassins from Assassins’ Creed, somehow…

Pathfinder - Incredibly -Yoink!-. The helmet somewhat resembles Commando from Halo: Reach.

It’s my review. Take it as you wish. Add two letters to the title so you can sleep at night. Please post elsewhere if you don’t want to contribute to the conversation.

The recruit helmet looks just like the ODST helmet. Why not call it ODST?

my BRAND!
