So recently I have been getting a lot of hate messages from players after games, specifically on Halo calling me really derogatory names and it’s very insulting. I honestly thought the Halo community was more mature than most others, but turns out I’m wrong. Why do I have to feel ashamed of my sexual orientation? Why can’t Halo be an accepting place for all types of people? It’s my favorite game and I spend a lot of time on it and I seriously get around a dozen or so messages a day calling me out or people trying to tear me down somehow. I never reply to them, I don’t even report their messages… It just makes me sad that we live in such a hateful world. Halo to me was always a place I could relax, escape from my worries in life and just have plain, good old fashioned fun and it’s slowly being ruined by mean people. Oh and before anyone says anything like why do you have your gamertag named that, it’s because I just came out recently and I am proud of who I am and it took a lot of courage to tell my family and friends, so I thought I had nothing to hide anymore, I don’t want to hide anything from anyone and I shouldn’t have to. So all I ask of you good folks on the forums is if you see anyone being bullied in any way shape or form, stick up for them! Be a friend to them, and let’s make this world and this Halo community an awesome place for all people ^_^!
EDIT: Due to the overwhelming negativity being presented by some of the individuals here I will not be responding anymore to this thread. But I want to give a sincere thank you for all of you supportive folks, you mean the world to me, really. But receiving comments like this one posted right here in this very thread by some ignorant person is just the tip of the iceberg from the daily harassment I get in person AND on Xbox live. “SnipersSUkD wrote: i think it is because you a -Yoink!- and you need to get beat bloody weirdo”. Those kind of comments really hurt a person that faces discrimination such as mine, it makes them feel worthless, so again thank you for your ignorance and I really hope you are proud of yourself.
I have been subject to a mean message or two after match, but nothing discriminatory. I have partied up with gay people before, and they don’t bother me. Our sexual preferences don’t matter in a shooter game anyway.
You should file complaints against the people that harassed you. It’s just not right. Sorry this happened to you.
You have my support. I’ve never been fond of bullies. Though you probably should report them for being -Yoinks!-.
Thank you for all the support <3. Wish the world was more like you guys.
Most of the incredibly toxic people don’t go to the forums, so this is probably one of the best places to talk about Halo peacefully and (most of the time) in a respectful manner. Have a nice day, by the way.
I love your gamertag! Its even better that its a proud statement you stand behind. Yionk the yoinkers who have anything against gay people. Its ridiculous how people can be so ignorant to other peoples life style/ choices that make that person happy. Just block them and do what you love. I salute to the LGBT Company. Hope to fight alongside you and your soldiers within the Arena and Warzone.
I honestly didn’t even notice your tag until I read all of the posts. That sucks man, really. Honestly, I don’t get why other people care what other peoples’ sexual orientation is. Doesn’t affect others in any way. Even if you think it’s wrong, or gross, or whatever, why think about it and bother yourself with the thought of it?
I know this may sound insensitive, but Xbox Live has always had a reputation of calling people f******and such even when they don’t know their sexual orientation. Is going through abuse about it worth the gamertag? I know you are proud of who you are, but still? I’m actually curious to gain insight.
Seems like you’re just asking for attention about your sexuality which is probably why people give you negative attention about your sexuality. It’d be like if I bought a Ferrari then made that my gamertag then expected people to congratulate me on it. Personally I don’t really care, I’m not straight myself and don’t make a big deal about it because its just one facet of what makes me sooooo maybe you’re putting too much importance on that because people will always find something to insult someone about and you’re just painting a target on your own sexuality. I have to deal with kids telling me they bang my mum while saying the N word, you have to deal with people saying stuff about your sexuality. Maybe don’t make it so easy for people?
What is the point of this thread? Someone said some mean things to you on the internet? Ignore them and move on or report them and move on. There really wasn’t a need for a whole thread about it.
someone creates an I AM A STRAIGHT MAN 69 alt in 3…2…1…

Well to be completely honest it was kind of a spur of the moment kinda thing. I thought you know since gay marriage is legalized and it’s 2016 that people wouldn’t even think twice about it, kinda ended up biting me in rear. But I will not change my gamertag to something else. I am gay and proud, haters can try to bring me down, but I will triumph!

Sorry if I’m just trying to build a more accepting community dude…

I suppose you’re against supporting your fellow man when they feel a bit down?
Ensure you report them via xbox live or their gamercard as appropriate. That type of conduct cannot be tolerated.
Not that I condone discriminatory speech, but your gamertag dude. It’s just asking for trouble. I have been on XBL for some time now, and have had no such problems. Even the whole girl thing has died down. Don’t worry about it so much. It’s the 21st century. People don’t care as much about being gay anymore.
Just report them. If the messages are offensive or have bad language in them, the senders could get banned.

No, not at all. But the OP isn’t feeling down. He wants attention. I don’t discriminate against other people, but as a few others have already pointed out, it’s because of his gamertag.
And even then, it’s online, he will most likely never encounter those people again in his entire life, so it’s really nothing to get worked up about.

Just -Yoink!- them. s’what I do. they’re probably all 12 year olds anyway.
I am very much a “Live and let live” kind of person. Without a doubt it takes a lot of courage to be who you really are, so much respect to you for being proud of who you are. I think the “I am gay man” part of your gt shows you have pride and confidence in who you are. That’s great. I support that 100%. The “69” part? I’m not sure about that. It seems a bit…I don’t know if this is the word I’m looking for but I’ll use it…provocative. Not in the sexual sense but as in looking for a response. Please don’t misunderstand me, I have a 14 year old son and have often thought how would I react if he told me he was gay. Every time I think of it, my immediate thought is that nothing would change. I will love and support him 100%, forever. You are also someone’s son, so you also deserve respect and love 100%, from everyone. I’m just saying we ALL have to be aware how we are seen in other peoples eyes. In summary, I’d drop the “69” part.
