Gave this game a second chance

and I’m really enjoying it. It gave me a bad first impression, but it has clicked with me recently. Old school halo player here that had huge disdain for reach and 4. 5 seems like a much better game overall and I’m quite enjoying the game now. Still don’t enjoy reach or 4, but I can work with 5. Good job 343, hope infinite improves on the H5 formula.

I did as well, approximately 1 year after it released (didn’t like the beta, but had a broken controller during it) when the game was half off.

Soooo glad I did. Amazing how many old school players wrote it off just cause it was something new. Hopefully people keep an open mind with infinite. If you want classic Halo, MCC works just fine now.

Glad you were able to give H5 another chance. The core gameplay formula is amazing and with a few tweaks to it and overall design improvements (better campaign, proper BTB at launch etc.), Halo:Infinite could end up being the best game in the series.

yea lets hope the back swing is not so harsh. too many “muh classic halo” people i feel scared 343i into basically just regressing.

I would like to ask a question:
Do you think it is worth buying an Xbox One just to play Halo 5 or is it better to wait for Halo Infinite? Because as I became a PC gamer after the Xbox 360, I only played Halo until Halo 4 and watching the reviews about H5 made me wonder how it was and how it feels like playing it in campaign mode and multiplayer.
I don’t have a friend or a family member that like Halo and has a Xbox One so I don’t really have any means of playing Halo 5 and my curiousity won’t stop telling me to buy it.
So, I’d like to ear about your opinions on the matter.

At this point I’d say probably hang out for Infinite. Not because of my opinions on 5 itself, it’s my favorite multiplayer-wise with Reach and H2A coming second, but more because it’s years old and is nearing the end of its life. Campaign mode though was actually a blast - the Warden fights aside that is - even if the story wasn’t so hot itself. Anyway, you might have issues finding matches in some game modes, and Warzone would likely cause you a great deal of stress popping into it as a new player in its uh, current state.

I’d say buy 5 on a discount or used, though if you have the Game Pass I thiiiiink 5 is included there? Correct me if I’m wrong please.

Glad to see you gave it a second chance and even began to like it a little! Totally agree with you on Halo 4. The ONLY thing that kept me playing it was Dominion. I probably would have been one of the many who left early and never returned had it not been for that game mode. Nowadays I don’t mind it as much but still… Definitely the least favorite of the bunch overall.

As someone who didnt play any of the games until last Christmas, I’m blown away by how good the game is. I understand that many of the veterans have grievances with the direction the games have taken, but I absolutely love Halo 5 and the fact I’m just now getting into it 5 years after release and there are still people playing is amazing and shows just how good the game is.

I gave up PC gaming and am exclusively on the Xbox platform. The console has tons to offer. I enjoy sitting on my couch after work and playing games and watching shows/movies. Just an overall better experience than PC. PC gaming is great at niche titles and competitive play, but nothing beats laying back with the controller in hand after long work shifts.

I enjoy the gunplay more even though I hate how it’s like halo ce with the whole pistols thing. Looks ridiculous to be in a suit of armor and having everyone with dinosaur arming it with a itty bitty gun.

Gotta say, I loved Halo Classic. But Halo 5 is by far and away the best MM I’ve played. I’m not good, but I absolutely love the game.

Oh man Halo CE and 2 were my heckin’ childhood., but I can’t deny Halo 5 is amazing fun too. Favorite of the bunch, with H2A and Reach coming second

If you remember the games aiming mechanics had some major issues for the first year or so. I think they finally fixed and and added acceleration and deadzone options in settings you could change but it took them 18 months I think to fix it. I played it for like a week and had such bad issue with the diagonal aiming bug that I stopped playing. When I heard the fixed it like 18 months later I hopped back on and really enjoy it now. The only issue now is population is low and there are way too many playlists so it’s spread thin and if you find a match its usually against the same people every game.

only things i dont like about H5 are really minor stuff and pretty much all related to firefight. stuff like boss kill credit and its rng factor that can be entirely crippling in boss heavy games and just how rewarding the no skill splatter strat is. Running stuff over in a vehicle shouldnt be the best way to play the game. It is a FPS afterall not a driving game

Unfortunately, they kind of made it so people have to do that with having bullet sponge enemies, high health bosses, an absurd amount of enemies in the rounds, long respawn times (easier to die on foot), a REQ meter that doesn’t fill up quickly and power weapons that are single use only.

Started playing again yesterday…feels so good to play again. Playing Battle Royal games for the last year or so sure is making hard to get use to it again though

On the other hand, vehicles have always been the Go-To way of dealing with enemies if you had one on hand - Campaign, Big Team, wherever. Why run around with a pistol (or battle rifle) to clear a crowd when there’s a perfectly good tank with unlimited ammo right over there? On the Firefight side of things it’s the same deal - and I remember going on massive sprees by managing to take over Choppers or Wraiths back in ODST.

Guns run out of ammo while vehicles don’t, and “ramming always works” is in total effect most of the time save for armored enemies like Knights and Hunters just like backsmacking someone to save on the ammo of taking them out normally - it’s instant, and except for assassinations, is quick too.

If the Firefight allowed for solo play, I’m sure the enemies would have a lot less health - having eight people playing at once that extra boost is kinda necessary or you’d be plowing through all five rounds in as many minutes. Those (annoying…) Armsmen mantises? When people are spread out randomly attacking each of them that round sometimes times out. When most or all of us are coordinating on a single boss they’re shredded in seconds, even without vehicles. Imagine if they didn’t boost their health to accommodate for eight people.

They could amp up the number of enemies (like the Round One: Crawlers on Apex) but then you’d be in the same situation: Loadout weapons and Power weapons run out of ammo before you even dent their horde, while a humble Scout Hog is mowing them down without issue.

Honestly though, I’ve always advocated that Bosses should be immune to both assassination smacks and splatters, since they’re BOSSES. They should be shot to hell, not instakilled.

I’ve gotten worse at call of duty since playing Halo so much lol. All that actually having to aim is ruining my abilities in call of duty :joy:

I kid. It is really a big change to go from a slow pace shooter like Halo and go to these faster pace titles though.

If Halo 5 launched with most of the content we have now and less of the microtransactions, this would’ve been a better recieved game for sure.

I upgraded to an Xbox one x recently and didn’t bother to reinstall H5 on it and probably won’t. H5 just lost its luster and wasn’t very fun in the long run. The arena maps were never great and way to many remixes. Warzone both regular and firefight just got so repetitive with few maps and very predicable enemy AI spawns plus enemy AI are dumb and just hangout in one small area of the map the majority of the time. Hopefully Infinite sparks new life into the franchise but my hopes aren’t that high for it honestly.

I believe it would have as well. Infinite needs to at least have a smooth launch to be able to hold top ten in most played for more than a couple months. 343 has botched the majority of launches so they got a really bad reputation and lost confidence. They could gain it back with a great launch and some stellar PR work. At this point now I think PR would save them the most as long as they ensure infinite won’t come out with major problems.
