Ok so those who play lots of Custom Edition Maps, specifically Big-Yoink-, are probably shaking their heads and saying it would never work. But we already have a 1 shot anywhere basically flaming sniper and a beam rifle that creates black holes why not have a hand held gauss gun? It exists in universe most notably used by the man, the myth, the legend, Sgt. Avery “Laser Eyes” Johnson against Insurrectionist forces during his time in Operation TREBUCHET. And I realize we already have a semi-gauss sniper in the Whiplash and a portable-ish gauss gun in the detached-turret but 343 brought back the brute plasma rifle despite it being very similar to the storm rifle in execution so I think its possible. What do you guys think? I know this had quite a bit of talk in the days of Halo 4 but I’m surprised no one has really brought it up yet considering the whole REQ system.

The Stanchion anti-materiel rifle can rip apart an organic target, even with near misses proving fatal due to the shockwaves left behind. Of course, buildings and vehicles would have a very bad day.
I’ve made the gauss sniper using the weapon pad glitch, trust me, not a good idea, waaayyy too OP.

I mean that’s sorta the point isn’t it?
We all thought that Nornfang, Prophet’s Bane, and Tartarus’ Gavel were gonna be broken but most just die as soon as they call them in.
And if you still need to balance it you could make the fire rate slower than the standard sniper by having the spartan have to pull a huge slide back to chamber the next tungsten slug and the reload also take a bit longer due to the heavier payload of the rounds. The user would also have to account for some arcing at long range due to it being a projectile.
These are just some ideas on how to balance it there are probably more I just didn’t come up with.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a game of only Gauss Snipers tbh lol
We wants it to kill all the things o.0

Could have as a Railgun variant. Modify the model giving it a 5x zoom scope and longer barrel (rails?) Make it function like the Arclight but longer charge.
Damage wise, insane, so the blast can kill two spartans if the’re near enough to each other but make the overall blast radius small. For balance, make it projectile and not hitscan as well as lvl 8 REQ
Well its actually a pretty sound idea. A sniper that uses magnetic acceleration as opposed to explosive propellants is a realistic concept. It would suffer from two things though: Lower caliber (smaller reticule) ammunition and frequent overheating.
Hypothetical gameplay:
Has a six round magazine (smaller rounds)
ALMOST overheats after each shot, requiring a slow pace.
May have a long cooldown when overheated.
Guaranteed kill against flesh (unless they have an overshield)
Moderate damage to vehicles. High critical modifier.
Higher aim assist than a sniper, but less than a railgun.
6X zoom.
Makes a REALLY loud noise when fired.
Level 8 REQ.

Thing is, Nornfang, PB, and TG all have some way of giving you away, for Nornfang it’s the red glow, for TG it’ the blue glow, for PB it’s the shimmer the camo makes with the slightest movement of your character, the Oni Sniper (My name for it) does nothing to give you away, plus it doesn’t have a limit on the range like the Nornfang does.
Sounds cool but it’s not really needed considering we have the binary rifle, I’m not opposed to having it the game though.
