Gametype-Specific Team Colors UPDATE

It seems that the team colors are going to be gametype-specific in Halo 4.

Slayer: Red v. Blue
Flag: Green v. Yellow
Oddball: Purple v. Orange

Flag & Oddball assassination video from Comic-Con

I personally don’t like this much, but what do you guys think?

UPDATE

From the 7.18.12 Bulletin:

> CTF looks to be Yellow vs. Green and Oddball looks like Purple vs. Orange. Any reason behind this? - Xx Overkill VR
>
> Those are the current colors, based on stuff like map palette content, color blindness, all sorts of reasons, but they’re also simply the colors from the build that was ready at Comic-Con, so don’t be shocked if that changes.

Judging by this, team colors may not only be gametype-specific, but also map-specific. Interesting…

If this is a fact, then this is pretty interesting. I’m guilty of playing an objective game like capture the flag and then realizing halfway through that I’m playing slayer and not PTO. Having gametype-specific team colors would be a great visual ID of what you’re playing and hopefully keep people on track and finally PTO

Why not test this in Reach?

That’s pretty cool, it’s a break from the usual Red VS. Blue.

Red > Blue

Only in my mind

Too flashy, they need to keep it at Reach, IMO.

It should be red vs blue for every two team game. Also, the reds look orange right now, make them more red.

They should make it so you can change the team colour accordingly in custom settings. Team1> (Green)
Team2> (Yellow)
Team3> (Black)
Team4> (None)

I like it. Mainly because its a fresh new feel but also to spread out the color schemes. RvB is good and all, but having YvG for objectives isnt gonna hurt.

Still hope they allow our secondary color to be our overall primary for team matches.

Since I’m assuming the forge options for spawning and team ownership are similar to Reach’s, how will spawning work? Will they place 4-8 initial points for red for slayer and then even more for “yellow team” in CTF and “purple team” in Oddball? Or will they just have “Team 1, Team 2, etc.”? I’m leaning toward the latter so that multiple team gametypes work.

I wonder how multi-team will work. They did say in the assassination video that “If you watch closely, you may see our plans for Capture the Flag and Oddball”. Could they be intending this?

The only drawback to this will be forging maps that are fit for all gametypes. Making the spawn will be more complicated, and the base color will have to match as more. Maybe these are editable. Like Red turns to green in CTF.

And what about color blind people?

there’s nothing wrong with red vs blue.

I think this sounds pretty cool…

I mean, it’s differentthat’s for sure.

It could work, but the green spartan was very bright IMO. Should be a bit darker.
The yellow and green didnt contrast each other enough.

Or maybe they just wanted to show some of the colors…

It doen’t make sense. The teams should be red and blue, green and orange, yellow and purple, because red and green, blue and orange and yellow and purple are all complementary colors to each other (sorry for my bad english)

EDIT:

So here are the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, red, orange, yellow…

red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, red, orange, yellow…

red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, red, orange, yellow

those all have the same amount of colors between them, one or three colors.
After all, it is logical.

Finally, more team color variety. It’s just not multi team playlist anymore.

I agree with you. If they do split it up, it at least should be:

Red v. Blue
Yellow v. Purple
Orange v. Green

Guess we’ll see soon. I still prefer classic Red v. Blue in everything though. But maybe we’ll see some cool new ones like:

Red v. White
Yellow v. Black
Blue v. Yellow
Silver v. Orange

Mixing colors could give colorblind players some real trouble, though. They already confirmed there won’t be colorblind options, but they will use a “colorblind friendly color palette.”

It would be interesting for them to test it in Reach like two months before Halo 4 is released and then change it back when Halo 4 is released. But the armour colours in Reach are darker and harder to distinguish from one another.

I think this is GREAT! Finally, we’re getting some change besides the, boring, red versus blue. How could anybody hate this? Plus, I think green versus yellow in Halo 4 looks much better and easier to distinguish Spartan from Spartan than playing red versus blue.

I think it’s much better.

Nice, I wouldn’t mind having specific colours for specific gametypes.
Prevents you from thinking “ah, it’s slayer” hen it’s CTF or similar during LANs ^^
Not to mention it allows for usage of other colours as well as shadowing when making maps, since blue teams always had serious advantages on purple/dark maps.

I have to admit, I have done this. lol.

And I mean, I guess it would make sense since they’re trying to make multiplayer more canonical. They did say that each team would have a team name to match the “training” aspet of it. (That’s what the wolf and unicorn placeholder emblems are on the scoreboard.) So maybe each color will have their own team name and emblem.
