Gamestop Stereotype

Where did the stereotype that gamestop gives people very little money for games and consoles come from, whenever I go there I get a decent amount of money for my games.

Yesterday was the last day they would give you $40 for Watch_Dogs. The game’s not even a month old.

Honestly gamestop is the only place i can go to get games, i mean yea i could go to walmart but i dont really like it there, the employees at my gamestop are really nice and fun to talk to. From what i hear from other people on the internet they have jerk employees at their stores. Idk what everybody complains about though cus my gamestop is awesome and its the only place i like to go to buy my games.

So because your Gamestop is one way, they all are exactly like it?

I go there to buy games. I’ve felt ripped when I trade in my games there and haven’t done so in years.

I’ve never understood why people complain.

“They only gave me $20 for a game that just came out.”

If you dont like the credit/cash amount they give sell it somewhere else. No one is forcing people to sell their games at gamestop.

I don’t ever trade games in which is why I don’t ever deal with this issue but you don’t get back a good amount of money. Most of the time I never sell bad games back because they give so little in return. I go to gamestop mainly for two reasons: Location to my current house and the atmosphere. I usually get pretty decent clerks who are fun to talk with.

I have two Gamestops by me with nice employees. It’s really enjoyable to shop at both stores. I also think the stereotype is a little ridiculous. Just because a handful of stores are questionable doesn’t mean the hole bunch are as well.

They may not give a lot, but I keep my games for a while anyway, so I’m happy to get what I get for older games I don’t play. They also have pretty good sales and deals.

Wow that is a disappointment big time. I agree this is why I am not too savy of Gamestop, I still like them but they are money hungry for sure.

Well the reason this came up in my mind was cus I’m getting an xbox one next month but I dont have gold so I wanna trade in all my games and my console to get a gold card even if I can only get a 3 month. I’m also starting an internship program soon and it pays i think weekly so trading in my xbox and games on top of that should give me enough to get gold and maybe a game or 2.

And no, what I mean is that I’ve only been to the 2 gamestops where i live and both of them are nice, I have never had a bad experience in either one.

It’s like any business. Sometimes you have good employees, sometimes you have bad ones. There were up to 5 Gamestops in my area, all of them stock full of nice and helpful sales people. Naturally, this won’t always be the case, but that’s true of any business.

Side rant: I hate hearing how people think they get ripped off at Gamestop. There are other choices for selling old games. If you think you can get a better deal, pursue it. Don’t trade the game in and then -Yoink-.

And?

With the boom of Pre-Order exclusives, you’re best to just pre-order a bare-bones copy without all the fluff.

Meaning avoid collectors editions. No matter how pretty they are.

That way you should never feel ripped off, or be surprised the trade in value isn’t always glamorous.

It came from the fact that Gamestop DOES give very little money for used games and consoles. At least when you compare to market price.

And they ARE turning some pretty ridicules profits on any used merchandise they do resell. Producers and developers want to eliminate the used game market for a reason.

I give the cake to this post, mainly because I can’t really word it any other way without more repetition in the thread.

Examples of why Gamestop sucks:

On their official site, they advertise Persona 3 FES as one of their discount PS2 games available. First of all, they charge double then what you could pay to get a new copy on Amazon. Plus it isn’t even in stock on their site, but they advertise it.

Traded in a copy of Twilight Princess for the Gamecube once. They took it for $7. Next week, they were selling it for $70. 10%? Really?

THEY GOT RID OF ALL THEIR SNES GAMES! THEY HAD HUNDREDS OF THEM! WHY? DEAR GOD WHY?

So they overcharge for most of their games (there are exceptions) and they do screw you over with trade in values unless the game is out of stock in stores (then you get full retail value).

I’m not sure how GameStop works since I like in the UK, but from this video it sounds pretty close to places like GameStation and GAME here.

A lot of us think the game is worth more, and if Gamestop was just buying the game it would be worth more, but since gamestop is re-selling the game they don’t give us too much. Sometimes you can get a fair amount, but the best thing to do is trade in during a promotion.

I have a very good experience with most gamestop employees. except one guy he’s always pushing me to pre-order games, asks me to sell my games, or wants me to participate in a some sort of gamestop program
