AAA games have been pretty underwhelming for a few years, so my standards are incredibly low. However, for Halo, I expected better in terms of overall design. It’s enjoyable, but really bad when taking the time to analyze it. An example is map design. Map design still sucks, but it’s not as bad as 5 since Sprint was nerfed big time. Indie titles are great, though.
its literally the majority of gamers,if cosmetics wasnt profitable it wouldnt be a thing and we wouldnt be in this situation with Halo
Yup, actual facts, don’t really understand the minority comments
What? No gamer ever asked for Halo Infinite to be a free to play game with macrotransactions.
343 and/or microsoft wanted that.
There are only downsides to this model: cheaters and insane prices.
Gamers should have voted for their wallet
They didn’t, hence this model becoming the standard, simple as that
Nothing wrong with 343 taking advantage of it, executives have millions to make after all
Yeah, the f2p systems in Infinite aren’t my favorite but it’s definitely more than just a Halo thing. It’s plaguing Video games as a whole. And look, I get it. Getting the base game for free feels awesome. But the reason so many titles are doing it is because at the end of the day, you have to spend significantly more in order to get the same amount of content you would normally get in a full priced title.
I’d gladly have given 343 $80-100 to buy this game if it was finished, with Forge, co-op, campaign+multi, lots of playlists, etc…
As it is, lol not giving them a penny.
Greedy companies gonna greed I suppose
Nope. Do the math. One gamer who spends $1,000 on Halo is worth more than 16 who spend $60. The last statistic I saw was that only 10% of gamers buy DLC or micro transactions, but that might have gone up a little. Also for example, 72% of EA’s revenue is from “online services” and they still sell all their games for $60. The $60 entry fee is dwarfed by the money spent by whales. Go read a little about it.
You have no facts. Go do some research on how much money F2P games make. Capping the individual player at spending $60 on your game is way less profitable than allowing a small percentage of them to spend thousands.
“It doesn’t affect me”
This is the braindead logic that lead to allowing this. Don’t call it a grave, it’s the future you chose
You still lose because they built the entire experience around monetization. You can’t even choose a proper game type. Also no custom browser as that competes with the cash shop. No low gravity swords or fun game types. Even Forge wasn’t a priority because they probably haven’t figured out how to best monetize it yet. (Cash shop exclusive forge items incoming)
Well, many, many, many players are voting with their wallet. And you see the backlash on these forums. If “gamers” were okay with this system, the forums would be quiet.
Preach it OP.
I remember years ago when the mobile game economic model was slipping into console games that gaming would never recover.
It is the reason I have refused to play ANY free-to-play games until Halo Infinite. With that said I for one do not care at all about colors and skins or any of that B.S.
What I want is a ranking system similar to MCC and something to strive for. The military ranking system is great. I want to be a General some day and that’s my striving point in MCC. In Infinite there is nothing that motivates me.
Also, I’d happily pay $120 for the full version of a game if I can have everything. The Assassin’s Creed games do it. It’s a shame Halo Infinite isn’t doing it.
You must be new to Mobile game Esque or Gacha Game economics if you genuinely believe this… the sad reality of the situation is that less than 10% of the people who do play several hundred or even several THOUSAND dollars in cosmetics DO dictate the decisions of Publishers and Developers predatory practices…
if 10,000 players exist in a game, and 9000 of those players spend one or two dollars a month, but 1000 spend 1-2k a month, those 1000 players that were able and willing to sink THAT much into a single game’s unlocks would have made the company more than DOUBLE or even TRIPLE of what the 9000 players spend a month. Even if those 9000 players decided to vote with their wallets and not spend any more money in protest of the crappy, predatory and very greedy business practices, the spending done by the 1000 players monetary impact would outweigh the players not spending so greatly that companies can quite literally afford to completely disregard these players in favor of their paying ones…
This is sadly very much become an accepted practice in many mobile and free to play markets on PC in places like Asia for example, and so many AAA companies have been DYING for YEARS NOW to make this the Status Quo on every console and PC game too, even the retail priced ones…
Many of us HAVE voiced our opinions for years and continue to vote with our wallets, but whales DO exist, DO spend insane amounts of money on cosmetics and they continue to perpetuate this horrendous business practice. Despite that, the system COULD STILL work if they did not punish their free players this harshly. Even the greediest Asian Gacha game will allow the player to obtain everything the game has to offer for free by allowing them to earn the premium currency and unlock stuff with time sink instead of money sink. It still sucks but it’s WAY better than what Halo Infinite currently has, with paid only armor, color, etc. unlocks on a timer…
Map packs fragment the community into haves and have nots, it always caused friction. There’s a good way to do MTX where everybody wins but this current situation ain’t it.
Sixty dollars wouldn’t be a big ask if Halo 4 and Halo 5 hadn’t disappointed in so many ways. To be honest I wouldn’t be playing Infinite if it wasn’t free. Not that I can’t afford it, I’m a little further along in life than most playing the game, but I’m not into paying for a product that I’ve stopped enjoying.
After playing Infinite for a while and enjoying it I bought the battle pass, not because I wanted anything in it, but I felt like the least I could do was pay them ten bucks for something I was enjoying, and if I keep enjoying it, I’ll keep making purchases to support the game.
I think making this free to play was smart. I’m pretty sure that many players feel the same way I do and wouldn’t have given 343 more money up front without having sampled the product.
Who’s calling it a grave? Gamers chose this, because they’re buying everything up. It isn’t my fault because I haven’t participated in this predatory monetization. No one was advocating against this business model, either. Gamers chose this future because they haven’t consistently fought against it, either with their wallets or their voice.
Sure, I’ll agree that I lose for content not being there at launch, but we’ll get it eventually, and I don’t mind waiting. As for the Custom Browser, it’ll most likely come with Forge, but we’ll see. As of right now, we’re back to Halo 3 where we just invite friends and randoms to join our Custom games.
I would rather pay $60 - $80 for a complete game and maybe pay for some dlc later. Games are almost subscription based for everything now.
Kind of amazes me how many people are okay with paying for basic customization options. I despise the battlepass formula and current monetization.
All that said I think the actual gameplay for Halo Infinite is great and I did not care for Halo 5 so I’m pleasantly surprised.
Not even for me. I won’t spend money on the game but I can’t make myself play this crap out of principle and self respect.
