3 armor sets = the price of a full game. Gamers would rather have a barebones free to play game rather than having literally hundreds of armor combinations available at launch such as in halo reach and spending a mere 10 dollars for 3 maps.
Have fun dropping thousands of dollars just to customise your armor to be on par with halo reach.
I’m glad 60 dollars for a complete game is such a big ask for y’all so we just this mess.
At least in Halo 5 you could unlock all the armor in game with gameplay… in infinite good luck even getting the color you want
I totally understand why developers are raising the price tag for buy-to-play games. Games used to be much cheaper but they have been about 60 dollars for the last 10-12 years(I can’t actually remember when 60 dollars became the standard but it has been awhile) so an increase to 80 dollars is understandable. Eating out, movies, and other hobby activities have all increased in price over the last decade. So next time you hear about a game being 80 dollars, try to think about it in the sense of instead of paying that much to have a nice dinner and some activities, you’re buying an interactive game for about 30-60 hours for the campaign plus the multiplayer side of the game depending on what game you’re buying. You get more for your money compared to other things you can spend on for fun.
Now I may just think this way because I am now in my early thirties, but this generation of monetization of video games I can hardly stomach even if it is free-to-play because it opens the door for soo many excuses for half-finished and broken products. Not saying this is Halo Infinite but for others games in general. On the other hand games are such a massive undertaking now a days compared to what they once were, paying all of these people at least 50k a year plus logistics, marketing, shipping, legal stuff, and other fees incurred for using certain engines or developing one in-house you can start to understand why 60 dollars a game just isn’t cutting it anymore.
TLDR; I’d rather pay full price for a finished game with maybe some DLC you can purchase down the road instead of free-to-play battle pass nonsense with any customization options being at least 10 dollars or more. It makes me think of the mobile game market and it pisses me off that they have had such great success in the Eastern part of the world that now it is becoming a standard here in the West.
I’m a problem because I’m cheap, but others are a problem for falling for this monetization. Only one of us wins though, and that’s cheap people. Free content at the expense of others’ wallets? Yes, please.
You’re really not right in blaming gamers for this. It’s a tiny % of whales that are to blame. Capping the amount of money that an individual can spend on a game at $60 just isn’t as profitable as allowing people to spend thousands of dollars via “cosmetics”. Why people spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on this stuff I will never know but it’s not most gamers. It’s actually a small % of people.
If having free multiplayer (not even campaign) that includes mediocre, limited customization and progression meets your standards, then sure. However, you’re setting your standards pretty low if F2P games are the only titles you play.
I don’t understand how anyone can feel fine dropping $100+ for cosmetics. As someone who generally doesn’t change up my spartan’s armor in each game that much, it’s not a huge temptation for me thankfully. Whenever they offer up the GUNGNIR helmet, I’ll probably buy that. Possibly the helmet for the Yoroi core that was in the MP reveal. Maybe buy one or two of the future seasons if the paid only offerings in the season look good to me. But that’d be about it and those aren’t all gonna drop at the same time. A few different pieces I like to occasionally switch between. I don’t need 1000 different armor pieces that I only like the look of maybe 25 of them.
