After reading through many forums I have come up with a few simple solutions that I believe could please almost everyone and not cause any issues with current gameplay.
SPRINT
Sprint seems to be at a solid 50/50 right now. Despite the balancing of no shield recharge while sprinting, that doesn’t seem like enough for some people.
Simple fixes could be a “de-sprint”, halting players when they are shot, or not allowing the player to sprint at all if their shields are down. This would reinforce the idea that sprint is solely for fast travel.
WEAPON BALANCE & KILL TIME
Overall consensus seems to be that the weapon balance with the current weapons seems to be better out of the gate than ever. However, many people have issues with the AR & SMG, as well as the overall kill times.
I think something that could fix it all would be simply boosting player base health. This way, the BR/DMR etc… could retain their 4 shot, 5 shot, etc… by having the same shield break time & then the finisher to the head.
At the same time, this would increase kill times of the AR & SMG (and any other automatics) and further reward skill by making headshots even more valuable. The AR has been mostly criticized for it’s power against BR’s at mid-range, although I think looking past the broken animation causing a degree of flinch at the moment, and some extra defense against some non-precision weapons would solve that, without officially “nerfing” the AR.
I love the fact that the current weapon balance gives you a reason to use & pickup autos in BR start matches, because they are not drastically underpowered. Retaining the current spread on the AR keeps it efficient enough to de-scope precision weapons and differentiate its purpose from the SMG. Once again, the health boost would increase it’s TTK, therefore it would still give a strong edge to BR’s at mid-range.
Overall, a bump in health will make the game feel more Halo-esque. The new “faster paced” Halo should remain purely in player movement, not TTK. TTK is the main way Halo creates gameplay that requires skill and teamwork to win and overall makes it stand above the rest.
KILLCAMS
Simple. Take them out entirely. I have yet to see any fans of this. Kill cams tend to function poorly, give away enemy positions, and can overall just take you out of the immersion. Many people hate the music playing over it for the same reason. Not to mention in it’s current state it hides post-mortem medals such as assists & kill from grave.
Player deaths should end in the same way they do on Breakout. Show the players’ dead body, with the ability to switch through their own teammates while waiting for respawn.
ABILITIES
Ground pound needs to be triggered in a different way so people can still crouch jump & ghandi hop. Also, on controller configs using an analog as crouch, it makes it very easy to start on accident…
Smart scope…MAKE SURE…100% SURE that there is no decrease in bullet spread, making weapons more accurate. No penalties for hip fire. Smart scope should remain completely about changing FOV.
Those are the biggest issues I’m seeing in the forums.
