So in (i think) july we saw Infinite gameplay, and people complaind about the graphics. I thought overall it looked fine, but fun af. And it definitely LOOKED like halo.
Ive been paying both series x and ps5 since they launched and honestly it looked like Infinite would have been just fine. Yeah some optimizations and some tweaking here and there maybe. But honestly even streamed from YouTube at 4k, the gameplay demo right now still looks better in some ways that what im currently playing! Again maybe some optimizations needed here and there. The only games i can actually say looks subjectivly better is Demon souls because its super confined and dark and Spider man miles in 4k with ray tracing enabled. Beyond that, i think Infinite would have looks jist fine. And even better than some stuff im currently playing.
Yeah, I totally agree. I think something bigger is going on, something more technically challenging than graphics. The textures and object pop-in had to be addressed and I totally get why they delayed the game. In all honesty, delay it until the worlds a little less crazy than it is currently. Then when it arrives, live will be all that much sweeter.
I don’t agree. I’m playing DOOM Eternal, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Warframe and others. I still say the Halo Infinite gameplay reveal looks inferior. It looks worse than Halo 5 from a graphical point of view. In fact, Halo 5 on the Xbox One X looks stunning with the 4K upgrade, and no, I’m not a Halo 5 lover, but it looks stunning. Cannot comment on what Halo 5 looks like on the series X as I’ve not tried it.
As far as I’m concerned the Halo Infinite reveal looks worse than many games that are years older than it. Especially games like Wolfenstein The New Colossus, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey / Origins, the games I mentioned at the beginning and countless more. I’m sure it will get better, but when your predecessor is over 5 years older and graphically superior you have problems imo.
I don’t doubt they’ll get it looking much better, but it didn’t look good in July imho.
I didn’t really have a bad opinion of the original gameplay shown. Everyone freaking out just confused me. I mean, it looked like a game. Maybe it didn’t stack up graphically to other games but if the game doesn’t PLAY well the graphics don’t matter and I didn’t see anything wrong with the gameplay presented.
I have to disagree. The demo’s style matches Halo, yes, but it’s not up to par with today’s AAA games—especially other open-world titles—on a technical level. Like you said, Spider-Man: Miles Morales looks much more impressive. I’ll echo what’s been said above about AC Valhalla as well.
I thought the graphics were fine except that textureless AR, the textureless hexagon pillars, and the lighting didn’t look great. It wasn’t my focus as much as gameplay. I was surprised to go on waypoint after and see how much negativity there was surrounding the graphics. I thought to myself “damn I was just enjoying the gameplay lol”, graphics are always a side note to me. I don’t blame people though, they were hyping up the Xbox to be this powerful monster and the 2018 trailer definitely set an expectation for the graphics, maybe they shouldn’t have done that. I was just surprised at just how many people care THAT much about graphics. Personally I’d rather them go all out with the gameplay at a nice steady 60fps but it seems I’m in the minority, at least on here.

Probably because they are upping the scale of the game but still using 2013 hardware in the Xbox One, 343 shot themselves in the foot by using last gen tech for their biggest game yet.

Other open world games are available for both (like AC: Valhalla) and look fine.

We don’t have the size of both game’s open worlds nor the complete story of how the games mechanics could be stressing graphics
I don’t generally like when people say “[new game] looks worse than [some older game]”, but in this case the lighting in Halo Infinite actually looks worse than the lighting in Halo 5, if only because Halo 5 used a lot of baked in lighting and dynamic lighting is more difficult to make look good. I don’t know how next gen games in general compare, but I did find it extremely underwhelming.
However, I don’t think the issues with Halo Infinite’s visuals end at graphics. The game also has artistic issues that have nothing to do with “graphics” or “next gen”, but generally make the game world look less exciting and engaging than some other games.

Looks better than black ops cold war for sure. That game constantly has objects ghosting through people, and the textures aren’t great either.

Using weird weapon models and minecraft blocks definitely don’t help, I feel if they added a sunset setting it would make the game look 10-fold better thanks to dynamic lighting
Ive even asked a few peopel i know and they are also a bit mixed as well. Its been interesting seeing peoples reactions.
I just think overall looked better. Not that graphics were mind blowing, but just that overall graphical presentation looked better imo.
For example, Between Demon Souls and Miles Morales, like visually i can look at both and say MM has way better graphics than demon souls. But honeslty i think demon souls looks better. Hard to explain but thats the best i got.
Thats how to me infinite looked graphically better than stuff out now. I think between what we saw vs valhalla, since that seemes to be the most common game mentioned, and both open, yeah maybe a bit better lighting in valhalla for sure! But how everything looks about on par in most cases. At least now that the performance mode runs better! In the 4k option, ehh yeah that goes to valhalla. Bit since inginite is 60fps, compared ot to that.
Still, i can see everyones point as well. And still curious what others think as well!

No, the Halo Infinite gameplay reveal was supposed to be an example of Series X power and performance. Pop Wolfenstein The New Colossus into an Xbox One X or Series X and you’ll see a big improvement over base Xbox One graphically.
Same with all games I mentioned, everyone of them are designed to run on last gen tech, and improve in both performance and visuals on Series X and even One X. Why not Halo Infinite ? Halo Infinite was underwhelming, and looked terrible from the visual point of view imo.

I couldn’t agree more with this! Though I do also agree with tsassi remarks about the art as well.
Halo infinite is supposed to be the face of Xbox series s/x and when I saw that demo I was not impressed. Visually, It didn’t look next generation at all!! This game in particular is supposed to make you want to go out and upgrade to a series S/X. Well, if this is the best they can do, I can guarantee you there won’t be many people upgrading to series S/X for Halo that’s for sure!! I know it didn’t make me want to rush out and buy a series S/X. Heck, I’m questioning if I should buy an xbox at all… This was the first Halo game (And I’ve been here since CE) that I ever said "this is the NEW, next generation Halo??? Uugghh! If this is the best 343I can do after 5 years, then I think someone else should be taking over Halo development.
Unfortunately, I legitimately think Halo Infinite is going to be a very average game…at best! unless they’re multiplayer reveal is absolutely mind-blowing. I get the impression that 343I are just trying to cram too much into this game and in doing so, has shot themselves in the foot.
I don’t think Halo infinite is going to be the big blockbuster seller that Microsoft hopes it’s going to be unfortunately. Makes me sad what Halo has become…but time will tell if course. I hope I’m wrong.

Agree entirely here! Anytime you see the new Series X/S it is accompanied by Master Chief. I mean his face is on the back of the box. TBH there are previous halo games that look better than this reveal.
don’t care much about graphics, but the gameplay looked exactly like other games out there to me and nothing like halo (what it should look like in my opinion)

Actual open world size is largely irrelevant to performance of the game. Games have been using lower res objects/billboards for over a decade now for distant objects. The actual world the game is having to worry about is usually limited to a certain distance from the player. In the demo you can actually see the pop-in of distant objects, which is generally the range of the world the game is actually caring about.
Infinite hasn’t shown to have anything particularly ground breaking in terms of game mechanics. From what we’ve been shown, its effectively halo 3 with sprint.
Art style was great, at least. Graphic fidelity is where subjectivity entered regarding quality. I didn’t mind the graphics, but I know why other did take issue. The graphics issue seemed like one that should be resolved by original release date, but apparently 343 didn’t agree and now Infinite is on delay.
