Gameplay analysis

Does anybody have any tips for critiquing your own gameplay? I always have the hardest time knowing what to look for.

Its difficult to be objective when you look back at yourself, especially right after a game. Just look at every death and pause it or go 3rd person and ask yourself what you could have done differently. Things to look for:

  • If you died because you lost a 1v1 fight, ask yourself if you needed to be in that fight or if you could have just damaged them and let a teammate finish the kill? - If you die trying to get away, note the angle you died from. Is it a common angle that you should’ve expected? - Dying from grenades shouldn’t happen often with thrusters, if you’re seeing a lot of deaths from them figure out why. Are you “getting down” in a predictable way? Pushing for power weapons when theyre being baited? - Are you being decisive? How long does it take you to decide whether you’re going to go left or right? Its hard, and things change quick but you should be thinking ahead a few turns. Obviously things change quickly in H5, but being decisive can help you put an opponent on their heels.

I wouldn’t claim to be a great critic, but I like to focus on my deaths more than anything… I like to look for instances when I am making mistakes.

  1. Try to realize when you put yourself in bad situations. Did I just run into 3 other enemies while trying to finish 1 that ran from me? Maybe a call out would have been a better option.
  2. Know when you’re one shot. Sometimes trying to squeeze off one last shot for the kill while you’re one shot yourself can be selfish. Sometimes the better play is to get to cover and have a teammate finish him off. This is something I notice a lot watching my own clips.
  3. Why the heck did I just run by Storm Rifle only to get pulverized in CQC? note when you are putting yourself at a disadvantage by not grabbing map weapons.

These are easy things than you can focus on to get better.

Thanks a ton I’m looking at my games now
