Gamepass for steam?

So I’m paying for gamespass but I have halo infinite on steam because I’d rather not have my games scattered between 20 different launchers but after installing the campaign its telling me to buy it to play.

Are you seriously telling me it can’t see I have gamepass through my gamertag thats signed in and is gonna force me to redownload the whole thing on this crap xbox app on my pc??

Don’t actually know what the problem is.

Microsoft is giving you the option to download the SP and MP via Game Pass for PC / Xbox App. Just because the game is available on GP and Steam, doesn’t mean that you can grab the game everywhere for free, mate.

If you want it for the price of your GP subscription, download it, where its available for “free” (Game Pass for PC). If you want it without switching launchers, pay up.

The steam version literally uses my Microsoft account login which has gamepass… do you really not find it crappy that they force us to use their app which is trash compared to it.

My problem is that I woke up at 5am to start the update and went back to sleep thinking it’d be all good when I woke up later since we didn’t get any heads up about this and I’m now being forced to redownload the whole game since I can’t just copy and paste my steam files into the xbox app since it doesn’t allow us access to those files with it.

and I won’t be giving 343 another cent until I see some actual changes to the progression system that aren’t ridiculously predatory to its players.

Oh and btw… I did originally have it on the xbox app but it randomly decided to stop working one day and gave me error messages when I’d try to launch the game telling me a file was corrupted and to reinstall the whole thing.

No option to right click the game and verify integrity of files like steam to fix it, just reinstall the whole thing… So I decided -Yoink!- this and moved to steam which has had 0 issues.

Tbh, no I don’t. Steam can’t give you a key for free, because they can’t trace, if you are having an active GP subscription. Xbox can. They have no partnership with each other whatsoever.

Imagine two completely different stores. One is selling you a sandwich and the other one is giving you that sandwich for free, because you have a voucher to get one for free.

Or maybe a better example: You can’t excercise at another gym, if your membership card is only valid at your gym.

I get that the Xbox is crappy and I don’t like it either. But hey, a free game is a free game, you know? Try it again. Hope it works out for you, my guy!

Steam doesn’t need to give you a key or trace it though.

The menu blocking players is in game where they store and track all your microsoft/xbox account info and purchases so everything transfers between your xbox and pc version through that.

There really shouldn’t be any reason why it can’t recognize you have gamepass through your microsoft account login and allow players access.

Just like the progression/armor system it’s been designed to make things as difficult as possible for the player so they are forced to give them more $$$

But the stream install doesn’t have the campaign files so you wouldn’t be able to launch the game. There is probably a licensing issue because if you can download through steam, then you would need the license for your account, from steam. If your game pass subscription expires, steam would need to destroy your license.

It’s not an ideal workaround but you can launch non steam games, from steam, by giving steam the path to the executable

Pretty sure it does? I downloaded it at 5am, already had the multiplayer installed so I just had to do a 20 or 40gb (was half asleep so cant 100% remember the size) update then it unlocked the campaign button in the menu but then would give me this new purchase message

And yeah it is a good workaround but sadly I close all my background programs while playing to reduce crashes so I only either have steam or the xbox app running at once

That’s too bad then, if it did actually download the campaign files then it seems reasonable to me that you should be able to launch campaign, unless there is some background steam licensing that the launch campaign option is tied to.

Uodate: FWIW I wasn’t able to get steam to update halo infinite to download the campaign files. You can double check the install size on steam to confirm.
