Gamemode Suggestion: Ranged vs Melee

Gamemode Idea: Spartans vs Hunters ( Ranged vs Melee).
This is not Infection!
I’m a big fan of halo, Warzone is my favorite mode, started to play on Xbox 360 and I’m a big fan of Xbox. My favorite weapon in halo is the Energy Sword, so I thought a game mode for halo infinite where this weapon is the main weapon.

  • The game is X vs X same number of players each side, composed by team 1 Spartans vs team 2 Hunters.
  • It’s based on rounds from round 1 to 11.

The Spartans are the ranged class equipped with light arsenal such as light rifles, pistols and smgs, they have low mobility without access to hook, the mission of the spartan is to protect the Facility from the attack of the Hunters. They don’t have shield.

The Hunters are a melee class equipped with melee weapons, as the Spartans they don’t have shield, they can’t carry fire weapons, only melee weapons, their advantage is their mobility, capability to hook, jump, and they have a invisible cloak, they are invisible, unless when they run or walk, so they must to advance carefully through the map.

The objective of the game is: Spartans should eliminate the Hunters in a determined time, the hunters should explode the Facility before the time run out, the round is end when all the Hunters or Spartans are eliminated or the Facility is destroyed or the bomb is defused, or the Hunters run out of time just like counter strike 1.6 back then.

The map: is big with two points A and B, each point has a Facility containing an anti aircraft cannon, the map has three levels and various paths to the objective, and those paths are underground, on the ground or in plataforms above the ground, and you have specific places where you can go down or up, so the Hunters can advance safely always having where to run or where to hide, for this reason every step of the Spartans should be taken carefully, they need to spray their weapons, listen to the noise of the hunters and be aware of every movement because in this mode they are the Prey.

One of the Hunters will carry a bomb, the others must to give him protection, his job is to go to some of these two facilities and plant the bomb, if he is killed by a Spartan before planting the bomb the bomb gonna stay in the ground, the rest of the Hunters must to find a way to recover the bomb before the end of the round, obviously the Spartans gonna camp the bomb, so is better to kill them one by one first.
As longer the bomb is planted there is a timer, every Spartan has a defuse kit they must to defuse the bomb, however while defusing the bomb they are even more vulnerable to the attack of the Hunters, so it’s better to protect while some spartan defuse the bomb.

When the bomb explode or is defused the round is end, the respective team gonna win the round till the 11th round, the team with more victories won the match.
After the 5th round the players gonna exchange teams, Hunters become Spartans and vice versa, this is for sake of balancing.

The pros and the contras

PROS:
This mode promoves a different gameplay, it’s a mind game where every step or decision should be taken carefully, the mode promotes skill, either the stealth skill from part of the Hunters or the awareness skill from the part of Spartans. The game mode promotes plot twists, managing time is important, maybe you have everything to win the round but your teammate for example lost the Bomb in a bad spot in the map.
You never know if it’s better to rush to the Facility or to wait and “clean the house before”. The mode promotes coordination and team speak.

CONTRAS:
Even though a good player can carry the match this is very team based mode, so you must to have strategy and rely others, like for example the bomb can spawn with a noob who will probably die and lost in a bad place.

The Hacks, considering the game will be available on PC a hack to spot invisible Hunters would ruin the mode, that’s the importance of the crossplay of and a good anti cheat.

Final considerations:
This mode has skill ceiling, it’s harder to play as Hunter than as Spartan, but also promotes practice, and in this mode you can be the prey or the predator, depends on the situation, a team with few Hunters alive would easily become the preys as longer the Spartans would have more moral to advance in the map seeking for the Hunters.

Spartans

Hunters

You could actually mock this game mode up in Reach customs if you wanted.

Set player lives to 1, set up Spartans and Elites to have a single loadout featuring the weapons of your choosing (having Elites be the hunters with the swords would probably fit the best) and make the gametype neutral Assault, but on a map forged purposely so the bomb always spawns in the Elite starting area, and the only capture zone you can reach is the Spartan base (this makes it so that the attacking team never actually changes sides between rounds). Then have one team switch to Spartans, and the other switch to Elites before the game starts and boom, your mode is ready to play.

Because Halo Reach had both loadouts AND the ability to give Spartans and Elites loadouts the other species didn’t have access to, it’s in a unique position where this gametype would work perfectly without needing any kind of honor system after the match starts… Aside from maybe Spartans not being allowed to pick up the bomb.

Only catch is, you can’t give the Elites both invisibility AND an advance mobility option like Evade. As you can’t separate their base player traits from one another. But they do move faster and jump higher by default. You can however give all players unlimited armor abilities and have the Spartan loadout feature no AA, thus giving the Elites infinite camp that fades like you’d expect. No radar would be necessary, since the radar jam on the camo would give it away.

I want something that uses the hook as the main resource

This is a really cool idea! When forge comes out I can see this being popular on the CGB
