Game won't launch, please help

Okay so I’m on Steam. Whenever I try to launch Halo MCC this error message pops up:

"MCC-Win64-Shipping.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).
Click OK to close the application."

And when I try launching Elden Ring or Halo Infinite, they just don’t launch. But Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3 and Tetris Effect launch seemingly without any issue. What the hell happened?

A quick google search seems to point to antivirus being the culprit.

Nope, that wasn’t it. Turns out Windows Update, one of the previews I’m guessing, had corrupted something. Did a scan and fix via command prompt and it fixed things right up.

What do you mean you did a scan?

Command prompt: sfc >scannow

I attempted the scan but i’m still getting the same error message mentioned in the original post do you have to uninstall and reinstall the game or something please help I really want to play this but it won’t let me

Hey mate, I’m not sure what causes this error message but it’s happened to me several more times since I posted this. My vague impression/guess(I’m not a knowledgeable technical guy) is that it has something to do with the Steam directory becoming corrupted/cluttered by Windows and/or driver updates.

The ‘sfc /scannow’ approach has fixed this error for me twice. Later it hasn’t helped and this is what I did:

  1. Steam was installed on C drive and my games were installed on D drive, so I decided to completely uninstall the games and Steam and re-install both onto G Drive - a blank SSD. I’m unsure if this contributed to the fix because this alone did not fix it.

  2. Under Windows storage settings I did the recommended deletions and cleared temporary files. I also deleted everything in the ‘Downloads’ section of File Explorer.

  3. I deleted the overclocking software I had installed and wasn’t using anyway, MSI Afterburner and AMD Ryzen Master.

  4. I make sure Windows and drivers are up to date. However, sometimes I’ve already been fully updated when this issue arises so am unsure if this was part of the solution.

After doing all these things it seems to somehow be resolved, hopefully it remains resolved and it works for you too. Let me know how it goes mate.

Yep same thing happened to me. I made a support request about it two weeks ago and nothing really has happened. I tried just about everything, I checked if my RAM was faulty, if my drivers were up to date, that steam and the halo mcc file were on the same drive, if windows was up to date, i did multiple sfc and variation of sfc scans to check for corruption, i disabled anticheat, i validated my steam files, i reinstalled anticheat, I ran the win64 file as administrator, and followed the advice of this forum and several other forums. Honestly this whole situation is stupid I mean seriously I played over 100 hrs of the game and yet this error happens out of nowhere. I did some digging as well into both event and task manager and some files related to the game and I’m not to much of a tech person but the error seems to be called (at least in my case) by .dll file called easyanticheat_x86 not being able to communicate with the win64 app file for the game itself although this still hasn’t helped me. So if anyone here has any more ideas you would have my thanks.

Hey mate, sorry you’re experiencing this very annoying issue but thanks for reminding me to post this.

The bad news? This issue inevitably reoccurs. The good news? I seem to have nailed down a fullproof solution to fix it each time.

I am continuing to experience this issue - multiple times since I last posted - I’m not a tech person either but I am now 99.99% sure it’s some kind of issue with Windows Update. This error happens for me again and again - mostly if not always after receiving any kind of Windows Update. I’m on Windows 11 btw.

So far without fail I fix the issue(until it happens again) by simply doing the following:

System Settings>Storage>Temporary Files and then I tick all the boxes and click ‘Remove Files’. This is working every time. I no longer even bother with the “command prompt sfc/ scannow”.

Hope that helps!

P.S. I forgot to mention sometimes after clearing out your Temporary Files you’ll need to then restart your computer and then you’re good to go.

I have this same problem but instead of an error message popping up, the game won’t launch. If I click open or something, nothing happens, no sign of the game opening. Checked task manager and there is nothing related to Halo. I tried every single fix I could find, including the ones on this forum. I would be extremely happy if I can resolve this annoying issue.

Wow, very weird and annoying. Hopefully the devs read this thread. Welcome to the forum btw.
