I preordered the Ultimate Edition and played the game last night on its release, now not even a day later and every time I try to launch the game, a Window that reads “Halo” pops up for a few seconds and closes… Why do you have to use the trash Halo app instead of directly launching the game? Does anybody know a fix to this inability to launch?

The game doesn’t have to be launched from the Halo App. Have you tried typing “Halo Wars 2” into your search field and then launching from there? That’s honestly the only way I’ve been running the game on PC. Please let me know if that happens to work.
still, it’s odd that you were playing fine last night and are now having this issue. This isn’t something that’s being reported widespread but I’d like to help our test team understand what’s going on. If you still have this issue can you please share some additional details - what are your PC specs? What version of Windows 10 are you running?
I can’t start the game with any method listed above. The game window opens for a split second and immediately closes yet it works on console. I’d much rather try this on PC so this is really disappointing.
I’m having this same issue. I’ve tried reinstalling the game to no avail.
I am also having the same issue. Im glad i can atleast play it on my xbox but i wanted to play it on pc so it bothers me that the app wont open. Halo wars definitive edition wont open either and neither will halo 5 forge.
I just wanted to come back and let others know how I resolved it. I initially installed this game on my secondary drive (and then uninstalled/reinstalled on that same drive) and it didn’t work. I then tried installing it on my primary drive and it worked. Not sure what’s going on there, and I hardly have any space on that drive now, but I’m glad I can play the game.
I had this problem last night, make sure everything on your Windows Update is up to date (check if theres any updates missing), and also make sure your Graphics Driver (Most the time NVidia) is up to date as well with the latest driver. After all that, restart and try again. It frustrated me for about 5 hours trying to figure it all out to realize it was all of that. Hope that helps!

I reinstalled the game and am still having the same issue. The Halo screen pops up for a moment, and then fails to launch.
Solution Confirmation: I was originally installing on drive D and tried installing on drive C as suggested above and this did not quite immediately work. I had to reload the halo app and launch the game from it and then this DID work! Thanks A DROWN1NG FISH!
Mine won’t start through the Xbox app on my laptop. It says halo then goes to a black screen but the app is still open. It stays like that for about 10 minutes then halo wars 2 shuts down. I need HELP!!!

I reinstalled twice, but am still having the same problem. I’m jealous of you currently. Jealous and frustrated xD
I’m in the same boat.
Game worked fine on the first day when the game was installed, now it just opens a window for a few moments, then goes back to the desktop. All my drivers are up to date, I’ve tried launching the the store, app and from the desktop, I’ve tried disabling the SLI and I’ve tried reinstalling the game on different HDDs through both direct download and using the physical discs. So far nothing has worked.
I tried to rasie the problem so it could be looked into, but because I got the Ultimate Edition I have to go through THQ Support. Still waiting for them to respond. When they do, I’ll post the response here to see if it can help anyone else as well.
Following on from my post above. I’ve managed to get my game to launch.
After a couple of new launch attempts (just in case it had miraculously fixed itself… worth a shot right?) I relaised that I hadn’t re-enabled my SLI. After re-enabling it I tried once more launch attempt, and it worked 
I’ve tried launching the game a number of times since (I can’t tell you how much I didn’t want to close the game in case I couldn’t get it open again), and its working fine.
I hope this helps people.
Just bought the game and I have the latest Nvidia driver. The game launches for a split second and closes. I have tried launching from the Windows search bar as well as the Halo app and through the store. They all give the same result.
Edit: Fixed, installed the latest ‘Cumulative’ Windows update
I’m having the same issue, once the launch day update came out Halo Wars 2 stopped launching. I already have like 10 hours of gameplay on it and it ran fine up until the update. Also happening on PC. Also i’ve tried the fixes listed above and none have worked.
Also on pc, uninstalling and reinstalling still does not resolve the issue. Instant CTD when trying to open the game. Worked fine before latest patch.
I still cant get the game to launch. I have reinstalled in on a exterior hard drive and both my d drive and c drive. anyone have any other ideas
