Game won't accept my resolution of 1440p

I’ve got this game on Steam. I’m so frustrated by this. I’ve spent nearly 40 minutes today trying to fix this with no luck. I’ve seen several threads with this same problem but not one of them have a solution. I’m about to refund this game and be done with this because it’s pretty pathetic that a game as big as Halo in 2019 can’t even figure out simple resolution settings. My issue:

No matter what I do I can’t set the game to fullscreen at 2560 x 1440. When I set it to fullscreen it forces it back to 1080p. Whenever I start up the game it automatically starts in borderless no matter what i choose. The only way to get actual 1440p is boarderless or windowed - which I don’t want. In my config file it even says it’s in 1440p despite it not actually being 1440 in game.

I see that when you select fullscreen it grays out the option of selecting the aspect ratio - I think this has something to do with it. Even going into Nvidia control panel and disabling resolution scaling doesn’t do anything. I’m approaching my 2-hour refund window because of this.

Can anyone please help me? I’d really like to not have to refund this but who knows if they’ll ever fix this issue and this isn’t something I want to be permanently stuck with.

Have you updated your drivers?

2560x1440 works fine for me.

Yep, updated my drivers immediately after installing Halo last night. Such a strange issue. I have a TV plugged into my PC as well but it’s disabled while off so that only my main monitor shows up. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It’s just weird that it’s assuming my 1440p monitor has a 1080p aspect ratio.

I would recommend verifying the integrity of the game files through steam. If you don’t know how to do this, go to your steam library, right click on MCC. Hit properties, then go to local files, hit verify game files. Should take 5 or so minutes. It sounds like you may have a corrupt file in your game.

Just going to put it out there, I have had this exact issue in both the flights and now full release. It’s not a driver or corrupt file issue as far as I can tell since I’ve already tried that.
It seems a few people have been experiencing it and no one seems to know why or how to fix it, I submitted a bug report back in the third flight hopefully they’ll figure it out.

at this point it’s on 343’s end. also experiencing the same issue, but at 1280x1024. only works native when borderless/windowed; changing to fullscreen forces it down to 720p. borderless works for now, at least, but if borderless is still cause for input lag, then i definitely would like to ask for proper fullscreen implementation.

i mean, how come borderless outputs native resolution properly but not true fullscreen? what gives?

Yep it’s strange, and given the fact of how widespread it seems to be and that variety of resolutions are affected I don’t see it being an issue on the Users end.
Hopefully there will be a fix.

Yes, all of you are correct about it not being an issue on our end. I tried verifying my game’s files several times and it doesn’t do any good. I’ve tried editing the config file, messing with my nvidia control panel, geforce experience, etc. nothing.

It’s certainly on 343’s end. If this has been an issue since before the game came out that’s pretty pathetic. I’ve never had this issue in all my years of gaming. At the very least editing the config file has always worked. I’m not going to refund the game (though I probably should) because I’m enjoying it otherwise. I just hope they fix this soon.

Is there somewhere I can actually submit this issue to 343 where they’ll actually see it? Maybe if enough of us let them know about this it’ll get fixed.

This worked for me:

  1. If you have multiple monitors connected, disconnect all monitors/displays except your main monitor
  2. Try connecting your main monitor to other ports on your GPU

Hmm, my GPU only has one DP so that’s not an option unfortunately. I have my second monitor (TV) turned off but not physically unplugged. I’m not about to unplug it every time I want to play this game though. I’ve gone through several HDMI cables in the past from doing that. Shorts them out.

Not sure if this will be much help, but ill provide system specs.
I have the same issue. I can only get fullscreen to display at 2560x1440 if I only have my main display connected.
When I have both displays connected the game will only go up to 2560x1080 in full-screen
My main display is 2560x1440P @144 hz.
My secondary display is 2560x1080 @ 60 hz in portrait mode.
CPU: I9 9900K
GPU: GTX 1080 TI
I dont believe any of the other specs matter/ have any bearing on the issue.

This is a really old thread but the problem persists. in troubleshooting the problem, I was able to resolve by turning off HDR in windows. bit ironic given the game has HDR control settings. If you’re desperate to play this will work, but it does come with compromise.

I don’t even have HDR and I get the issue where the game decides to open up at low resolution.

I put the game to my native resolution in game, and then when I restart it, boom, low resolution.
