Game quitting penalties

I think if it gets to a point in a game where all your teammates have quit out, a forfeit option should pop up and you can choose to end the game without being penalized for quitting. It’s extremely frustrating to have to pick between taking a quitting penalty or having to endure the frustrations of a 1v4 scenario.

I agree.

Quitters should have a 15 min ban

I kinda wish they would take out the quit option all together. Granted people could still just turn off their consoles, but it would be less convenient. A 15 minute ban after just quitting once would be good. And if there are several quits in a matter of one day have the ban time increase with each quit. Then they could reset the counter on the next 24 hour time period.

In a world where people quit jobs and marriages as if they were nothing at all, do you really think that trivial penalties will stop teenagers from quitting matches in a video game? This is the 21st century and if you want people to stick it out then you have to give them a reason to stick it out, not a penalty for failure.

If you leave a game you should be banned until that game ends.

Maybe quitters don’t care about getting banned (I’m sure most don’t), but if they continue to quit and after four times have an hour ban at the very least I won’t keep getting matched with them or I have a lesser chance of it.

You do have a point though. Maybe after not quitting x amount of games you get rewarded a gold requisition pack or something like that.

People keep whining about quitters. Especially all the “good” players. People always get upset when their punching bag decides to leave. Sorry but if my score is 5-15 then yes I’m gonna quit. Why do people like getting destroyed and T-bagged at the end game screen when you lose? I’m not gonna praise the other player and get beat up for 10 minutes in a completely one sided game where I’m only good as target practice. And those on the quitters team, I get its annoying if your losing by like 5 but when its a one sided game then why stay? Because the other team earned it? Pffffft I’m not taking a beating for anyone. I say instead of penalizing quitters they just add a forfeit option or have the game end early if its one sided. Makes more sense.

I’m sorry, but if you suck you should keep playing. Otherwise you’re doomed to be the punching bag in most games. You get better by playing people better then you. And if you ask, “Why should they care? It’s just a game,” well it’s not fun if you suck. At least for most people like you just stated. Try and get better so you can have more fun, stop playing all together, or just not care whatsoever and play despite the fact you suck. I went from a SNES to a original xbox. It was difficult to adjust to a controller with duel analogs and I was god awful at Halo 2, but I never quit a game. I eventually got better by playing, learned from my mistakes, and never quit a game. I wasn’t upset about being bad.

It really hurts in CTF or objective game modes… I wouldn’t mind waiting at the score screen untill another player arrives. I’ve had games that were close until someone left and one side runs away with it. Players on the other team have generally been sympathetic and realize its a tough break

Something should be done about this, it is especially annoying when trying to level up a playlist rank and then some random on your team leaves and puts you at a huge disadvantage. I have played in a slayer match where it became 2v4 before either team had 15 kills. My friend and I kept it interesting and only lost by 10, but we still lost and our rankings went down. I wish we could have had some type of option to concede and maybe only take a partial loss? I wouldn’t say that the entire match should be void because the other team did stick in there and win, but some credit should be given for the spartans who finish the mission even if the odds are against them.

Finally. A man who understands that carrots are more effective than sticks. If only there were more of you.

Another voice of reason. I agree with you 100%. If matches are going that far sideways then what you have is either bad game design or bad skill-based matchmaking. It’s usually the latter, but whatever the reason, you’re absolutely right that, for the sake of the dignity of all players, that match needs to be ended.

The most dismissive thing you can say to a player in these forums is, “Git better, scrub.”

And I truly believe that the idea that you only improve by playing above your skill level is pure garbage. It’s true that it may help you somewhat in terms of learning about map control or team tactics, but this game lives and breathes on gun mechanics. Speed and accuracy with weapons is not something you can learn. At least not beyond some basic point. If your theory were true than anyone could become pro simply by playing pros. And I think we all know how ridiculous that notion is on it’s face.

I agree there should be a forfeit option if the match is being completely one-sided. There was a SWAT match I played last night where my team won 50 to 5. I felt so terrible. I would be all for such a feature. In terms of penalties for quitting matches right now, I would have to say, hey sometimes things in real life happen and you need to deal with those things and you gotta stop playing your match and leave. Makes sense to me.

Though, it does get agravating when you find yourself in a match where two of your teammates have gotten out…

People who try and strive at something tend to surpass those who have a natural skill and never try. #UzamakiSyndrome. Anyways to the point, you can clearly see that what’s said there isn’t “git better, scrub” but that the more you try the more likely you are to improve and succeed. If i never played better players, I’d be stuck thinking I was the greates sniper of all time, since facing better opponents and practicing I now know that my skills have improved 10 fold. You learn from playing better people. You have to do it continuously. Not just once in a while. I know this from personal experience. I used to custom someone who was leagues better then me for hours on end any time I got the oppurtunity. Of course everyone caps at different points in regards to how good they can get so no, not everyone can go pro.

Also, I wasn’t saying that’s the ONLY way you learn. It’s one of several. Sorry if that was confusing to you, but it is a major factor.

Lastly, I never told anyone in this thread they suck. I was saying if you (you in this case being anyone playing Halo and not a specific person) suck you should keep playing. No need to make me out to be a bully.

I agree. Sometimes you have to quit because there are more important things to take care of. I have been in that situation many a time being I have a daughter. In that case what I suggested, which was the 15 minute ban for quitting once, is really no big deal. If you were to do it continuously in a 24 hour time frame obviously the penalties would increase at that point. That’s how I feel it should work.

Agreed 100%! You’re lucky most have been sympathetic. Most times for me it turns into the other team turning the match into a slayer game if they have the lead and drawing out the match as long as possible.

Of course natural skill + zero effort = nothing. But there is a vast continuum of both skill and effort, and all I’m trying to say is that all the effort in the world will still only produce limited results. #lawofdiminishingreturns.
