Game quitting needs a penalty in Halo 5

I know this was brought up but this isnt a “Do you think we need it?” this is “We do need it”. Game quitting has always been a problem when Halo dropped the skill based ranking system and it has been for some time now in the MCC. It is really aggravating when half or even your whole team leaves you because you didn’t cap the point or are falling behind in slayer or they didn’t get to play the game mode they wanted. This needs to stop. There has to be a penalty system for players who feel like they are entitled to leave their team without thought. I have no problem with Halo 5’s MP so far except for this probable problem. So i’m thinking timed bans, the stripping of rank, or even the deletion of their req cards. Something that will get the idea into their heads that they need to think twice before ditching their team. As much as i would feel like a skill based ranking system would fix this i still think there are those who just wouldn’t care. In fact i would highly recommend 343 to take a note from titanfall as they had a perfect way of dealing with cheaters. So basically 343 should create a system that puts game quitters with other game quitters and other violators in matchmaking. What do you guys think would be an appropriate penalty because one is greatly needed.

Have a system that matches properly based on skill so we don’t have lopsided matches that cause quitting.

I agree.

There should be a ban timer starting at 5 minutes on second quit (first one is free!) anytime someone quits out of a game, drops connection, closes the game with the Start > Quit option, or restarts their Xbox One.

However I also think there should be a surrender button. Press start (Menu) then Surrender. It throws out a vote to your team, and each team member has to press Select (View Button) and Left Bumper for No, or Select and Right Bumper for yes.

Majority wins, game ends early and everyone can queue up for a new game without having to go through a long dragged out process of getting walloped.

Adding a quitting penalty will only mean people will just afk in the middle of the game. Idk about you, but I’d rather be outnumbered and stand a chance then to have idle players giving the enemy team free kills. If a person doesn’t want to play, there’s really nothing you can do about it.

And Titanfall’s special servers were for hackers only. Not quitters.

This is most of the issue for me at least, I virtually never quit just because we’re simply losing. If however the other teams racks up 2 flag caps in less than a minute because my team is off having a circle jerk or we’re minutes into the game and the enemy is winning 20-3, and the 3 kills are all mine, yeah I’m probably quitting. It’s not even a rage quit just a personal decision not to waste my severely limited free time with a team who’s goal is to rack up another loss. I figure they can pull that off with out me and if anything I’d probably just get in the way. Sorry for the heavy sarcasm but that’s seriously how it feels sometimes lol.

Of course the other big reason for quitting lately is that its gotten old seeing seldom played maps that pop up for voting once every 100 games get instantly voted down so we can all play Rats Nest or Valhalla for the 10th time in 2 hours. God forbid we mixed it up a little.

I had no problem whatsoever quitting anytime someone voted for Sword Base in Reach. So yeah, I get you.

H5 has already been confirmed to have a quitting penalty system and for those that will choose to AFK its been confirmed if youre afk for to long youll be kicked and itll count as a quit on your part and you will be banned. 343 is really making sure quitters dont come back to halo.

So those that would afk to get pass the bann system THINK AGAIn!

Quit penalties do nothing and are virtually worthless. It’s not going to stop a person from quitting at all, and making so that they have to x amount of time before they can play again is just going to drive people away. Just deal with quitters and keep playing don’t bother penalizing them because it does nothing.

Agree, we need a penalty, yesterday I played some MCC matches but in the majority of them my team mates abandoned the game when we start losing, I saw myself playing ctf alone versus four players :frowning:

Good news about the voting! It doesn’t exist. Completely randomized selection of maps.

Totally agree.

Agreed. It’s honestly just CRAZY to me how many people leave matches in MCC. Very glad it affects Xbox Rep now.

Agreed, and penalties should be harsh. BUT! There needs to be some kind of means to handle the unbalance teams, post quitter. Not JIP, but like a voting option that allows the down-a-player-team to forfeit the game if they start getting steam rolled.

Quitting is the new normal. Visible ranks in previous games didn’t stop the problem. An argument could be made that they occasionally exacerbated it. Xbox Live rep penalties and quit bans are toothless, whether because people no longer care, or because they don’t kick in until a very high threshold is crossed, I do not know. Grouping quitters together is no sort of real penalty for quitters, although I suppose it may be better in the long run for those who choose to finish their matches if they are grouped with other people who are more likely to finish as well. Although this solution has the effect of further dividing the player base which has negative implications for the function of skill-based matchmaking and fast search times.

I don’t have an answer for you, but I can tell you that this torches and pitchforks attitude is not going to solve anything. This problem can only be solved by a lot of hard work and soul-searching on the part of 343. And any real solution will not have anything to do with “bans” or “penalties” or “punishments.”

I hope thats true

That’s nice and all but the bigger picture is to fix the issues with people who quit like lag, uneven teams, a system where a map gets chosen EVERY time, ect… oh and let’s forget that getting disconnected is a thing.

Rubber band joysticks.

So I should get banned off the game if my internet drops?

Of course there will be, they’ll tell us what it is and you really can’t defend against smurfs or if you play ranked the first day/week you’re going to run into good players
