Game Mode Idea "Firefight 4.0"

I had this idea for a game mode for Halo Infinite. Please follow to the end, and share your thoughts.

The game mode is essentially (4-player) Firefight, but with a fun twist that incorporates a few other features to keep people playing both arena, and Firefight.

When I speak of Firefight, I refer mostly to a survive as long as you can type of game similar to Halo 3 ODST.

  1. Like in Halo 5 you get Reqs, but this time in order to get these Reqs you have to complete matches, challenges (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly challenges), and commendations. At no point will this Req system unlock armor, skins, or whatever else cosmetic, those must be earned. The Commendations system can unlock stuff, but not the actual reqs you receive by completing them. The reqs only gives you a stock pile of weapons/vehicles and puts them into what I call “The Bank”. These Reqs can only be obtained by playing on the Arena Side of the game either Social, or Ranked, and only if you finish a match from start to finish.

  2. Then you go into Firefight mode with your friends, and after receiving a certain number of points you get an Ordnance Drop selection like in Halo 4. The Ordnance can be called in at your leisure the same way as Halo 4. The Ordnance options will be somewhat random. It will be based on what wave you may be on, or some other factor as to the power of the weapons you might get as a selection. However, the weapons that are possible to get in your ordnance drop have to be in your bank. So in other words if you don’t play the Arena side to fill your bank with goodies, you get only a small selection of maybe grenades, or basic weapon ammo etc…

  3. Then you make certain armors, skins, customization only unlockable by reaching a crazy level, achievements, or commendations in Firefight, and in order to better your chances of getting to that crazy level or achievements, you are going to need those Ordnance Drops to have really good options available.

Selling your reqs, can help raise the chances of getting those certain weapons/vehicles in Firefight by removing the stuff you don’t want in your bank. This will also give you credits to buy the armor, skins, etc… that you do want! Think Halo Reach.

I like the Halo Reach style of acquiring most of your cosmetic looks for your spartan, a credit type of system which again encourages players to complete matches to get those credits to buy those items, but there really needs to be somethings that are very hard to obtain and very rare to see on the battlefield, and I believe this kind of set up would help encourage that, and give a true incentive to not quitting matches.

For players that quit matches, they would receive extremely reduced credits, and reqs for 2-3 matches. This would be yet another means to discourage quitting.

I am sure this idea could be refined quite a bit, but it is a good starting point.

Why use ODST’s Firefight when Reach can basically be the exact same thing?
I think a more preferable idea would be to have this system:
Each enemies you kill gives you points, just like in every FF game, but they’ll also give you Req points (don’t count towards actual REQ points). REQ stations around the map will give you everything, ranging from a simple Magnum to an OP Ultra Banshee, Phaeton Helios, etc.

REQ stations are a toggeable option. However, as to if it’s on or off by default, it depends on the host’s choice (Custom Games) or the what the majority choose (Matchmaking | Voting in other words).

That ordnance idea isn’t bad at all, but in my setting, it could only work in the FFS (Firefight Survival) mode. However, I would make a twist. You would be given a timer. When that timer expires, you’d be given a choice between a weapon, a vehicle or a powerup. The more points you get, more powerful choices will be available. Example: If you have 0-300 points, you’d be offered a Magnum, a Gungoose or a Speed Boost (or nothing), while if you got some 3000 points, you’d be given the selection between a SPNKr Prime, a Hannibal Scorpion or a Damage Boost III. Higher ranked units would give you more points, so it would be best to prioritize them. Ordnance would be on by default but could be toggled off.

Enemies, depending on their setting, would adapt to whatever the players would throw at the field. For example: You’re dominating as an infantry soldier, the enemy will start using Carbines and Beam Rifles more often. If you’re dominating with a Ground vehicle, enemies would employ heavier weapons like the Incineration Cannon or Twin Jewels of Maethrillean. If you’re dominating with an air vehicle, enemies would start using the closest to AA guns they could. This setting would make the game much harder than what were used to. This Adaption setting would be off by default, but could always turned on.

Finally, gamemodes. By preset you’d have:

  • Firefight Classic: Old-fashioned Firefight, like in ODST and Reach; - Firefight Objective: Firefight with objectives, just like in Halo 5; - Firefight Survival: Firefight with the options of the new mode; - Power Firefight: Firefight with REQ options, not limited by an RNG element, but the player’s choices; - Hardcore Firefight: The hardest setting. No ordnance, no REQ selection and enemies adapt. Only skill will allow you to prevail.Tell me what ya think about it.

What about Floodfight?

Of course too, but it really depends whether the Flood is coming back or not. 343 isn’t going to make a completely new faction with extremely different mechanics and behavior for a gamemode. BUT I made a concept of a Flood Firefight gamemode somewhere. I’ll have a look and see if I’ll find it (shouldn’t take too long).
Edit: Here you go.

Firefight would be a great thing to bring back, and why not have a firefight that had alternating enemies (that would even attack each other), or just a random roll on which enemy would occur for each game.

What about a attack and defend version as well?

What about a lone-wolf option like in Reach’s ending.

the current firefight doesn’t give you any idea what the next objective is or where it is and so if you are in the wrong place, it takes ages to get to the battle. so maybe something can be put in place to give you notice. maybe as the game starts, it tells you what the objectives for the 5 rounds will be so you can pull out appropriate req’s. i hate pulling a wraith only to find that the objective is kill banshees or phaetons… you’ll kinda useless unless you give up your req
